Still searching for meaning
Well, I only got about half the responses to my second poll as I did to the first, but then it was not up on the home page as long. Something about a lot of fanposts that should have been fanshots. But I'm trying to keep my panties untwisted, so I will say no more about that.
I did get a significant change in the percentages. I think the sky is falling syndrome was in play, and the poll numbers matched the feeling I was getting from reading things. So one thing I am figuring out about the meaning of preseason: It can really affect the attitude of the fan base. But I don't think that is too much of a surprise
Just a quick recap of the 1st two polls, taken after the third and fourth preseason games, respectively.
| 1st poll | 2nd poll | |
| 12 or more wins | 22% | 16% |
| 10 or 11 wins | 75% | 57% |
| 8 or 9 wins | 2% | 25% |
| 7 or fewer wins | 1% | 2% |
I am now interested to see how everyone reacts to the last preseason game. Of course, I hope this also gives a gauge of how you feel about the season in general, but we do know some things we didn't then.
We know that David Buehler looks to be a good answer to the placekicker question. As Jerry said, the last game could not have been scritped any better for him, and he could not have done much better. One was a little close to the upright, but other than that, he was perfect.
We know the final 53. No more arguing about who to keep (although the practice squad is not set, and Jerry was hinting that there may still be some moves). Personally, I think some of the voters will move up just on the fact that McQuistan was sent off to Miami.
And we saw a remarkably competent game from backups and hopefuls. It at least made the coaches look good, and I think at least a couple of players made the final roster with their play. That does tend to give credence to the theory that all the staff cared about was evaluating, and the poor performances by the starters does not really mean everything.
Anyway, how do you feel now? I am curious to stack the three weeks up. Heck, if they can do this for the elections, I can do it for the Cowboys!

if the offensive line holds and plays with more ferocity and ......
a gritty mean attitude we may just get some running game back, but it will ultimately come down to keeping romo upright and a resemblance of a running game…
woman !, dont try to understand em, dont try to make them understand you, for they are a breed apart ! lol
I'm waiting to see the game planning to help Romo
Rollouts, screens, and extra protection. Didn’t see much in preseason, and I’m hoping JG has some stuff in to give Romo a chance to hit his targets.

yeah i agree on thaat......
we def need somthin to keep em honest up front 4 sure….

of coarse as always... health will play a big role and how our defense gets timely turnovers too

My reaction
I switched from 8-9 to 10-11.
Absolutely no logic behind that switch, I’m just feeling very happy and excited about the season starting and the backups/scrubbs having an entertaining game on Thursday. Does any of that have anything to do with how we’ll perform in the regular season? Nope.
Did I still switch my pick against all logic just due to happy emotions? Of course! I’m a sports fan, not an accountant!
That's pretty much what I expected
I think that is the meaning of preseason for us fans. It means something else entirely for the coaches, I think. Fans get much more into the emotion, and the results are already showing that the feel good last game has brought more optimism.

well said .....

Dude, it's football
You can try to be unemotional and down-the-middle. But if you do that, where’s the fun?
Where’s the fun in last season if you aren’t absolutely positively sure we’re out of the playoffs going into the New Orleans game?
What was the fun in watching the 5-turnover game against the Buffalo Bills in 2008 if you didn’t walk away from your TV at some point during that game? I don’t know anyone who watched that game that didn’t walk away and declare the game lost at some point. It made the come-back all the more amazing.
You’re supposed to get emotional about football games, you’re supposed to knee-jerk a little. That’s the fun in being a sports fan.

Oh, no disagreement
I am interested in how things swing. I also loved the debates about what the coaching staff was up to vs. what we wanted to see.
And after the season winds down, it will be interesting to see how well we called it.
Thanks for the comments. I think this is going to be a very interesting season for the ’boys.
