Defensive line: Who do the Cowboys want to trade?

The Cowboys defensive line is very deep.  It seems too deep until you realize that three players are presently playing on one year contracts.  If the Cowboys personnel folks really like the young guys Lissemore and Brent and think they can play next year as back ups, then they can trade someone right now and get a draft pick in return.  If they stand pat, then they are going to tie up roster spots for at least two people who are not going to make the 45.  The longer they wait to trade someone, the less likely they will get much in return.  Assuming I am right, ( yes, I have known for forty years what happens) who would you trade?

Bowen

Spears and Olshansky are starters and very good at what they do, Bowen and Hatcher seem to promising to trade but if i had to give one up it would be Bowen

Bowen has a defined role on this team as the starting nickel DT

Hatcher is merely a backup to Spears.

I thought Bowen and Hatcher had the same job but backing up different guys.

They both come in on passing downs. One behind Spears and one behind Olashansky.
If we wanted to trade one, it seems to me we would have been better served to hang on to Saivii giving us a bargaining chip and enough left over DL to play the season straight. I also would have kept 9 OLman with the thought of picking up a 10th in the trade.

Having said that, I think all the DL are tradable if the price is right.

Yes but their roles are the same. And they actually both flash enough to keep you thinking they turned the corner.

Bowen is clearly the best pass rusher of the bunch

I don’t know if I’d be willing to give that up.

I like Bowen a lot

and I think because Spears was a #1 draft pick the Cowboys could get more for him.

Insert pithy statement here.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

I hope not

Thank you #22, for everything you did for the Cowboys. There will never be another one like you.

Bowen

. . . because he has the most value in terms of what teams are looking for . . . a pass rusher with size that has upside.

don't trade any

There’s a 50/50 chance there’s no football next year anyways.
Stockpile depth and go for it this year!

Hatcher, if they could get something of value

Where is the NONE of the above vote?

What is so wrong about a deep DLine?

I posted this earlier for another Madden GM who wants to trade away Dline in exchange for more WR / DBs.

Our SB teams in the 90s had a deep DLine that rotated from early in every game till the final gun.

Kept everyone fresh and lead to many hustle tackles and sacks.

Trade Spears

I think he does a good job but they have already underpaid him, thus showing a lack of commitment. Unless they want to extend him, they will lose him so try and get something while you can.

havent you noticed,

just how poor our run D looked without spears in preseason games?..

Davie Wilson
how bout them cowboys!!!

by scotscowboyfan on Sep 6, 2010 1:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Yup

But I also noticed that he is being paid less than his backups which does not usually bode well for a long term situation.

Spears or Bowen

Spears is next year’s Chris Canty.

Bowen has played well and could get you a middle-round pick.

I heard that Spears was going to be used as the backup NT this season

Has anyone else heard that rumor?

(In lieu of all the bs trade rumors flying around, I thought I should be clear, I’m totally serious about this)

Thank you #22, for everything you did for the Cowboys. There will never be another one like you.

I remember Wade mentioning...

that Spears could back up at NT if needed. But that was a couple months ago. I would think that would be a last ditch thing though. Maybe if something happened to JRat during a game and Brent struggled or got dinged as well we might see him there, but I doubt we would before then.
