Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Tony Ugoh released, should we give a look?

Now I know the kid's a LT by trade, but he is basically the same exact size as Kyle Kosier, off by about 6 pounds.  Do you think they could do a Big Davis kind of thing and pick this guy up, and give him a shot at guard?  I mean, at that point in Davis' career he was being referred to as a bust as well ( if I remember correctly).  Now he had a few good seasons here, maybe an undeserved probowl, but he is still a good lineman.  My question to you guys is, do you think it would be a good idea to pick this guy up.  If he can play guard, and i'll be honest I watched him at Arkansas and dont remember him playing any guard, it could be a good pick up.  A swing lineman with experience on a complicated offense.  Maybe you guys know more about him than I do, but I think it could be a worth while pick up, if not for insurance purposes only.  Maybe Hudson could revive his career?

From what I've read

About Tony Ugoh

He has an injured toe

And that’s as much as I know.

Is playing smart too much to ask?

Everybody knows

That Tony Ugoh blows

We’d be pushing our luck

To expect him not to suck.

Nah I was JK.

Basically it’s not the length it’s the subject matter that’s going to get bashed. People are cut everyday, if we had a fanpost about every single one it would get out of hand. See what I mean? I don’t care, but others do

No, I mean, I understand that

However, O-line depth has been a heavily discussed topic around here, and I kinda thought this was something that could be a very viable option. I do understand what you are saying though

It does affect OL depth,

which is why I’m ok with it.

It's not about "how many words"

It’s about content.

Fanpost is for analysis, stats, in depth thoughts, etc.

Fanshots are for “rate my fantasy team”, and “should we sign this guy”, “surprise surprise, Carp got Cut…lol”

Just cuz a dude is released from another team and ‘at one time’ he may have been somewhat serviceable, doesn’t mean Dallas needs to entertain the idea of bringing him in.

And I say all that as trying to be helpful, not be b*tchy or anything like that. We all know Fanshots don’t get a ton of pub down on the bottom, but they are a far underused tool. Too bad we didn’t have a ‘Recommended Fanshot’ section too.

I know he's pretty young

And he did a decent job protecting Manning’s blind side a few years back.

So what’s going on? Linemen, even average ones, are rarely released like this. I mean, look how long we held onto Proctor and McQuistan. Is it a chronic injury issue?

Hell yeah,

Bring him in, keep him inactive till that toe heals and we are set!

That's what I say

I mean, you can probably grab him up for a bag of dimes, and it could be a low risk/ high reward situation

The guy can’t seem to put it together to be a marquee LT.

Not to say that he can’t fill a backup spot. I guess they thought it was more of a lack of ROI.
That position often times gets looked at like the K position. You either get it done or YOU’RE done.

I thought the same thing

I’m hoping he could become a converted guard, and at worst a backup tackle. Like I said, they did it with Davis, lol hey it could work

different system

remember the great post on this site about the difference between power and zone blocking? ugoh worked entirely in the zone system with indy so if he came he might not fit in our system well. that being said, his inability to work in the indy system might be an indication he’s more cut out for a power system. i’m not sure he would be a quick fix, in any event.

by jmw677 on Sep 9, 2010 10:56 AM CDT reply actions

That could be the case

I don’t think he was in a zone blocking scheme at Arkansas either

I don't doubt...

the team has better intelligence about the cuts or who to try and pick up. I do think they sit on their hands for many reasons and that should have changed by now.

JJ likes to hold his oline cards he has. He paid lots for them on average. Holland and Barron are on the hot seat I hope. They should know the stakes if they fall apart.

If it were so exact then all cuts would be gone forever, certainly that isn’t what happens here or elsewhere.

Joe Berger is the new Miami center starting this week. 6 years of effort, I hope it works for him. three teams including the Cowboys. Imagine Mcquistan, Berger and Proctor all becoming starters? That would be funny and disturbing if they all played well. I doubt this outcome of course.

yes

as soon as I heard he was released I thought we should really sign this guy
idk I just think it would be a good fit
seriously if we signed Proctor kept McQuistan around that long we should really take a look at a fellow Jerry Razorback

I was in my home library and went to my reference section on the 2007 draft...

Ugoh missed football for track&field meets,Track&Field are you kidding me,even then his desire for football was questioned,Indy forced him into the lineup because somebody retired, even then he underachieved.
…If he was any good they would have kept him as a back-up ‘till he was healthy, let Philly take a flier on him, they just threw 70mill away on the Andrews sisters and cut all the back-up lineman they drafted.
…What i’d like to see is the PSquad with 4 slots going to OL, just to find a back-up.

by psychodad on Sep 9, 2010 2:58 PM CDT reply actions

How much is there really to look at.....

and every team can study every cut. It’s just the other teams have been doing more than PS moves. Some guys were picked up before waivers got this far.

There is the guy from the steeler and the 49’s still floating around, maybe they are done or hurt as well.

At least the colts played him and decided. It would take the cowboys twice as long to reach this outcome.

by Cwon1 on Sep 9, 2010 4:04 PM CDT reply actions

i say bring him in, let him get healthy

give him a marc columbo year to make sure everything is healthy… use the offseason to add strength and technique, and practice him at G… he was practicing at guard with the colts before injuries to their LT and to himself… word was he wasn’t terrible

i say bring him in if he doesn’t ask for too much money, try him out at guard, but don’t let him affect your off season strategy of putting some youth on the oline… he’d be worth it as a project i think

by CowboysFan4Life on Sep 9, 2010 4:16 PM CDT reply actions

It could be the money factor also.....

he might not be as good as his comp. Had he been a sixth round pick he might still be playing.

That happens too, I have no details.

The O line coach at Indy is excellent

if he can’t make Chicken out of Chicken Shinola I don’t believe anyone else has much of a shot at it.

I'm not opposed.

If nothing else it’s desperately needed depth.

were about to find out

how good our backups are sunday & then it would make sense to sign somebody if they didn’t get the job done. i just hope our starters get 100% healthy sooner then later

+1

i think we’ll see how the backups are going to be in that game for sure.
Also I think we’ll see jerry more willing to go and sign a vet after the first game if the backups dont do well, if only for the fact that after the first game, you dont have to guarantee veteran signings for the full year
