Cowboys, Miles Austin Agree To A New Long-Term Deal
The Dallas Cowboys and Miles Austin have reached agreement on a new deal. Michael Lombardi reports it's a 7-year deal for $50 million. From his Twitter account:
Filed to NFL Network, Cowboys Miles Austin has a new seven year deal, over 50 million.
He might have the money right, but everyone else says it's a six year extension. Either way, who cares, at least they got it done and Austin will be in Dallas for a long time to come.
Miles Austin on verge of signing six-year, $54 million contract extension.

Huzzah for a good move by the Cowboys. Great to see a guy work hard, put in the time, overcome some injuries and capitalize when his moment of opportunity arrived. Way to go.

It Was A Mistake
Because the overwhelming odds were that he would have become a free agent; the mistake was not taking this gamble and giving up the picks that should have turned into a pro bowl guard or center.

I only posted once complaining about Jones.
I posted about 20 times to say ‘i told you so’.
Big difference.
I don’t regularly go on threads/posts and complain about our lack of CB depth or about the fact that we cut Adam Jones. If I did that it would be annoying and I would fully expect people to say ‘shut up already’.
After the first post my comments about Jones tend to be directed to the specific people I disagreed with and are following up on the disagreement I had with them over whether Jones could play in the NFL.

Actually you're wrong.
Completely.
Galloway was NOT worth 2 #1s, PERIOD. He was a decent receiver, but 2 #1s for a WR when we need more than just 1 WR vs the stuff for Roy when we were just 1 WR away from making a real SB run. Galloway trade wins for most homerific. At least the RW trade made sense at the time (even tho I personally wanted to head-hunt Anquan which we obviously could/should have done).

That is the most ridiculous statement ever. Roy was a lot more than average, especially out of college. He just let the Lions bring his expectations and work ethic down.

Trading for Roy was a mistake. It was one of a series of mistakes
that started with drafting Felix Jones since no one but Jerry would have drafted him in the first round.
I remember Jerry and Wade selling us the BS about how Felix is used to sharing the ball and wouldn’t mind playing second fiddle.
What a load of BS. Who drafts a guy in the first round to be a backup. Who drafts a situational back in the first round.
That could have been Desean Jackson or Cris Johnson. I know TN. was laughing at that pick. Just like Detroit was laughing when they fleeced us for Roy.
I actually wanted to grab Jackson in the first and Ray Rice in the second round.
Instead we walked away with Bennett and Felix who in two years have really done nothing bBut exactly what their negatives were coming into the draft.
Felix’s negatives were that he couldn’t stay healthy. Bennett. He was immature.
Both have proven to be true.
Those two picks put us in the position of having to trade for a WR. Everyone and their mother knew we needed another WR and they left that draft not drafting one.
Hence. It was a mistake.
Fisher was on the record at the draft saying he wanted Felix if he had dropped.
So please, get off that “TN was laughing” bit. And you know what, I am glad you were so prescient but honestly Dallas wasn’t the only team that saw the draft that way. Desean dropped because there were concerns about his maturity as well. That doesn’t necessarily validate them passing on him, but you can’t pretend as if there was some obvious pick that Dallas just decided to ignore when it picked Felix and then Marty B.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
at least wait a season before you celebrate Dez Braynt's greatness.......
he could still be a bust.
RW was a mistake but as big as Galloway’s. What was the rush of giving him that huge extension before making sure he could play in our system with our QB???? I have no idea. At least with miles we already saw an entire season of him.
I dont think drafting Felix was a mistake….maybe a little bit of a reach considering that Tashard is probably just as good and we got him in the 4th….but “Felix like mistakes” I can live with. RW is really pissing me of….the guy has been here for almost two years and he still cant get in sink with Romo…..something’s wrong with that guy…..
TO was not a mistake in my opinion. he gave us over 10 TD in every season he was with us I think. Releasing him might have been a bigger mistake than keeping him. He’s better than RW for sure!!!!!!!

do you mean to say
felix’s negatives coming out of college was his injury history? Cause I’m pretty sure he had no significant injury history coming out of college…
He was the #2 rb in college
That was the only thing I remember was people wondering if he could carry the load as a primary back.
As an Arkansas resident and a Hog fan I can tell you this...
COLLEGE: Felix was always in the shadow of DMac but if you look at the all-purpose yards, Felix was a winner every time! DMac was a heck of a running back and made the yards when it counted, but add in returns and big plays and Felix was right there!
NFL: Felix has almost half the carries and twice the yards as DMac. I know Oakland’s OL sucks and that makes a difference, but I would take Felix over DMac any day of the week!
INJURIES in COLLEGE: Felix…Nothing to take him out of the picture. DMac…arm and oh yeah, he got shot in the foot at a night club!
Look, I love DMac, but to compare him with Felix is apples and oranges. If you do HAVE to compare them, give me the cat every time!!!
"It's not by chance that I bleed Razorback Red, it's what God intended for us all!"
Everybody liked Felix over Johnson.
By the way, six receivers went before DeSean Jackson so please find something else to cry about. If you’re such a genius why aren’t you doing this for a living?
You left out not drafting Tom Brady in 2000
Since you are basing your categorizations of bad decisions on hindsight. I don’t remember you posting your mock draft guesses on here, so I guess you can claim whomever you want to as the picks you would’ve made.
The only prediction I remember you making, was that the Redskins would win the NFC East last season, not a very smart choice, but then again you didn’t have the benefit of hindsight then.
Felix was a late 1st rd/early 2nd pick so I’m not sure why you think he was a reach by Jerry. Certainly wasn’t considered an injury prone player, that’s an inaccurate statement. No one said Felix was going to be a backup. What they said was the carries would be split between MB3 and Felix and that their playing styles would complement each others. Not surprising though, I don’t think you know what you are talking about most of the time.
According to you, Bennett’s weakness was immaturity, but you wanted Desean Jackson? Because he’s the model of maturity? Enough already.

Model of Maturity
See: DeSean Almost scoring a TD against Dallas and being an idiot and fumbling and losing the TD.
Don’t get me wrong, with hindsight I would have taken DeSean… but lots of things are easy to view that way. Hell, JJ’s ghost in the closet: passing on Moss.

This is why San Diego won't win the Super Bowl
Back in the 1980, the Chargers had a similar issue with Fred Dean. Fred Dean was traded to the 49ers and helped them become a Super Bowl Champion, meanwhile, the Chargers lacked his defensive presence in the AFC Title game against the Bengals.
-It’s okay to be frugal, but to be miserly at every step of the way is insane. Vincent Jacksons and Marcus McNeils do not grow on trees. But I digress. Hopefully we can come in and make a deal with the Chargers for McNeil. That would be nice.

In Romo we Trust
I guess what I was talking about wasn't necessarily the pressure he personally feels
but rather the pressure that will be put on him in the media and in the fanbase. When you pay a guy the type of money we just did I think it goes without saying that last year’s type of performance will be expected and any type of perceived dropoff in play won’t be received well. Whether that ever has an impact on Austin will be hard to say but if he starts not living up to that contract it will be a new thing for him to deal with the intense scorn of the media.

first, his contract is a good deal – 18 million guaranteed is nothing crazy. If he keeps his play up, its a bargain for us – like Romo’s contract. Romo isn’t making top 10 money.
Second, I think it means Roy has little chance to stay on this roster after this year…which I’m fine with.
Third, I’m not 100% sold on Miles – he was absolutely awesome last year, I would never argue that. That kind of performance will make him a top 5 wr every year. But he has shown a tendency to get hurt on top of the fact that outside the last 14 games or whatever of 2009, when he caught EVERYTHING, hes never had great hands.
Does anybody have a Roy W jersey that they could mail to Philly?

A little little double talk talk going on there there

Money talks and RW, I mean bs walks
Maybe we don’t have to hear RW talk about being the#1 recv anymore.
After Garrett Hartley misses 2 field goals
How do you feel about Beuhler now?
I drafted Hartley in my FF league and now I'm thinking I could've just waited till FA and pick up Buehler.
32 yard miss? C’mon Hartlessly! Who does dat?

It's the curse of Folk
Still haunting the Superdome (insert montage of Folk’s pre-game practice kicks from last seasons NO game here)

Another great move by Jerry
Now the Cowboys have the weapons secured for a long time. Congrats to Miles, he completely deserved it. That kind of season was no fluke. In fact I don’t think he’s hit his ceiling yet.
It’s nice to see the players know that if they play well for Dallas, they’ll get rewarded by Jerry. Contrast this with other teams around the league (SD, TEN, NYJ) where you have guys holding out, and wanting their contracts redone well before it’s time to. I don’t remember any big hold outs in Dallas since Emmitt’s famous 2 game holdout season that ended with another SB win.

I think Beuhler will be ok too
I was just agreeing to an earlier comment on a different post that you never know with kickers. Any one of them could go south. But I also agree with another comment too that Beuhler is a football player and I don’t think a miss will get into his head. If he misses one he’ll just go downfield on the next kick and light someone up.
The Contract Structure is interesting
$17 million this year, 7.5 million next year.
Then $25 million spread out over the next 4 years, averaging $6.5 million a year.
It’s interesting that the cap hit is actually quite reasonable as the contract goes on instead of increasing to crazy highs in the last years of the contract as many do these days.

Makes perfect sense.
Get the big portion of the guaranteed out of the way in the uncapped year, that way if it turns into a bust he can be easily unloaded.

I don't have an issue with the dollars.
I just think they should have waited a year to be sure. Oh well, it’s not my money.
