On The Rocks:Chia Mock Draft V2.1, My Way Or The Highway
This is the mock I have been waiting for, this mock is all my picks. I am drafting based off what I want and the players I want this time. Jerry has invited me into the war room and have became the GM. Please take into account I did make some trades but I am not sure exactly how the value chart works, but the trades I made were realistic. I attempted to make this mock as realistic as I could get.
Jerry-"Heya ChiaCrack I uh love ya work on BTB that you a have a done great stuff hoss"
Chia-"Thanks Jerrah that means alot coming from a boss like yourself"
Jerry-"I know being a boss hoss is hard work, so a what ya think about coming down to Texas and working our war room"
Chia-"I would be honored Jerry, one question though"
Jerry-"Anything for you hoss, whats on your mind?"
Chia-"First off NO WR's, and all Wade disciples must be kicked out of the war room, we want winners like Garrett's disciples"
Jerry-"Chia uh Im glad you a asked me that, no WR's and none of a Wade's a people ugh in the war a room"
Chia-"EXCELLENT" (Monty Burns voice)
Jerry-"I think I like your style hoss, but I purchased the rights to the Monty Burns EXCELLENT phrase, thats a mine now a buddy"
Ok so I am on the phone, talking to Bill Bellicheck, Ozzie Newsome, Scott Pioli, all the big shots, and they reccomend I trade from the 9th slot. But I can't find a offer I like and would benefitial to the Dallas Cowboys. I get a call from Dan Synder asking if he can move into the 9th slot, but the deal made no sense because its one slot, once I am bleeding draft picks out of Snyder, Shannahan weasels his weasel self onto the phone and hangs up. Darn it. I get a few other calls from teams wanting to move up, but Im not blown away by the offers, and there isn't a QB a team has fallen in love with.
So the 9th pick rolls around, all my blue chippers are gone, Fairley, Peterson, Prince, Bowers are all gone. I have to tell Jerry to calm down, were not taking Julio Jones to form the best WR core known to man. So I start talking with the war room, Stephen the only normal Jones agrees, we can't move down here because we don't have any takers, and says Chia sell the war room on your guy. So I do exactly that, I say you know I want a premier S or a premier OL but there just isn't one there guys. I want to take Sherrod or Carimi but its reaching boys, we shouldn't reach. I think we can trade back into the 2nd and get our guy there. Rahim Mooreis a stud guys, but again I think he may be a reach at 9 so I think we can get our guy later on. So I start to sell the pass rusher idea to Stephen, Jerry, Garrett, our DC, and Tom Cizkowski. Some arent in love, but some are. So I call our running guy down in NYC and he is going to hand the pick in for us with 2 minutes left on the clock. I am going to take Von Miller here guys, Robert Quinn is gone.
But the the phone rings, its Minnesota and they want to jump Washington and get their QB of the future. So I put them on hold and I call our runner back in NY, I say wait we might have a trade, DO NOT HAND THAT CARD IN YET OR JERRY WILL WIPE OUT YOUR WHOLE FAMILY. The runner understands the significance of the situation and lets me know we have about 2 minutes before we have to turn our card in.
Cam Newton has made Minnesota drool and the Redskins want to take him, so the Vikings cant resist themselves and offer their 12th a 2nd and a 4th, I say deal I will call NYC and send the trade in. Our runner delivers with 20 seconds to spare and the trade is official, Dallas has moved down and the Vikings are taking Cam Newton 9th overall. The war room rejoices because we have been trying to move down the whole draft because of all our blue chips guys being selected.
Jackpot, we moved down 3 spots but picked up some chips to work with in the later rounds, boys war room we are going to get some players we need.
With the 12th pick we get a call from Miami and they want to move up for Mark Ingram, so we acquire their 15th and 3rd round pick and we got a deal. Odd but teams have fallen in love with a RB and moved up before, so accommodate Miami and Jeff Ireland, saying no hard feelings with treating Dez like a dirtbag, were just going to jerk you is what we are really thinking IRELAND!
Now we have 2 2nd rd picks, 2 3rds. 2 4ths, and the 15th pick in the NFL Draft, we have successfully traded down and now can really make some moves and get some players we really need. We center talk in the war room around the 15th pick. I mention OL here, Derek Sherrod and Gabe Carimi. But we have graded out Rahim Moore very high, when me and Jerry were at the scouting combine I mentioned to him that Rahim Moore is the best safety in the draft and could do big things for the Dallas Cowboys. Rob Ryan agrees and he wants a playmaker at safety, he would also like a pass rusher but Rob assures the war room that he can work with Anthony Spencer. With Von Miller off the board we go to our highest rated player, Rahim Moore. We come to agreement that Rahim Moore is the pick, and we will go OL the next 2 picks, no matter what.
15th overall we select Rahim Moore S UCLA, the war room jumps in joy and champagne is popped. I call Rahim Moore, I ask "Rahim you ready to be a Dallas Cowboy?" He says "Yes sir its a honor to wear the star" and then I hand the phone to Jerry and I light my Cuban cigar. After hanging up the phone Jerry sobs and sniffs saying "I wanted a Jones on this team, a Julio Jones" sorry Jerry not this time.
We tried to do some haggling and get back into the 1st but we all decided its better to wait to the next day and we call it a night.
With our 1st 2nd round pick we make a move, we surrender our 2nd round pick, and our 3rd and 5th to move up to take Tyron Smith OT USC. We all agree he is a steal for us in the 2nd round, we got ourselves our RT.
With our other 2nd round pick we had alot of talk. I mentioned the need of a ILB and bring up Martez Wilson, a guy who is a freak. We talk about CB and discuss Ras I Dowling and Aaron Williams, but talk centers around the OL again. We all believe Ben Ijalana and Marcus Cannon can become our starting RG. We also have some talk about Justin Houston a OLB that could boost our pass rush. In the end its my decision, and I say you know what guys we take a RG here our OL is set and fixed. We got our 3rd and 2 4th round picks to play around with.
With our 2nd 2nd round pick we select Marcus Cannon G/T TCU to come in as our RG.
In the 3rd we grab a player I have had my eye for sometime and had talks with Jerry during the combine process. Muhammad Wilkerson blows us away at the combine, his numbers are freakish and we need a DE. Jerry agrees and sobs and sniffs again that he doesn't have the opportunity to trade down and take a ST player here, this isn't the 2009 draft Jerry. Draft real players. Also Wilkerson coming from a smaller school intrigues Jerry and Tom Cizkowski as we have drafted some smaller school guys before and have some success. Rob Ryan agrees that with Wilkerson we get a DE that can rush the passer for him, but be good enough in the run game. Talk does center around a NT, Rob would like a big Sean Rogers type of NT, and we do a good amount of talking over Kenrick Ellis here but the talent of Wilkerson is too good to pass on. Ryan assures the group we can find a NT late in the UDFA route and also talks about how much he likes Josh Brent. Ryan also says we might be able to get a guy he likes later in the draft, so we go DE here. With Spears, Bowen, Hatcher all free agents we like getting a DE here.
So we select Muhammad Wilkerson DE Temple in the 3rd round.
In the 4th we have alot of talk around LB NT CB SS, alot of good talent left.
With our 1st 4th we take Casey Matthews ILB Oregon. I just like his hunger and passion on the field. We all agree he fits the mold we are looking for in Dallas. Casey may not be the fastest or strongest ILB, but he is going to produce and overachieve. The pairing of Sean Lee and Casey Matthews has our new DC salivating, also we joke around that with hair like that you can't lose and Rob Ryan with his lucsious locks agrees. With Bradie James getting up in age, and the lack of depth we have after Sean Lee it is a no brainer to address the ILB spot this draft. Kelvin Sheppard and Martez Wilson are other ILB's we really liked, but are off the board. Mason Foster is another LB we really liked, but he played OLB at Washington and we decided not to go the route of moving a OLB to ILB, we are tired of the project picks even though we believe Foster could transition to a ILB in time.
With our 2nd 4th round pick we go CB selecting Rashad Carmichael CB Virginia Tech. We need to add some depth at corner considering Newmans age, and you can never have too many corners. Here we get a corner with good speed and leadership qualities. We also took a look at Ryan Jones from Northwest Missouri State and Utah State's Curtis Marsh. We like Carmichael and have him rated for his speed and aggressiveness. Also a intangible that sold us was his leadership quality. Coming from a big time school in the ACC played a factor in taking him over the 2 smaller school prospects. Rob Ryan mentions that he likes Carmichael's gritty aggressiveness and says he is a perfect fit for his system.
This is the part of the draft where your taking chances on upside, or getting subpar players. I have the war room sell me on their guys. We talk about some NT's, SS's, RB's, WR's, OL's specifically C. We really like Alex Linnenkohl from Oregon State but we come to a decision that we like Phil Costa enough not to draft another C. Costa reminds the war room of former Cowboys great Mark Stephnoski. I mention the need of a RB, especially short yardage with Marion Barber not returning to the team and for a good reason. Tashard Choice's future is in question and Garrett has mentioned he is not sure on what he is going to do yet. I mention my love for a RB we saw in the Cotton Bowl when it was in our stadium. Stevan Ridley #34 from LSU is a warrior. We all like his passion and heart for the game and all like his size, strength, and speed. Questions arise over his character, but we love the guy and brought him in and we liked what he told us. With a deep RB class Ridley should of went back to school, but its a great thing he came out as we get a gem this late in the draft.
So in the 6th we select Stevan Ridley RB LSU.
In the 7th we take a kicker to come into camp to battle it out. We select Josh Jasper K LSU. Kicker is still a big question and Jasper was one of the best kickers, even though he is the 3rd rated kicker this draft. We tap into the LSU pipeline again with the back to back selections of LSU players.
So boys and girls as GM for a few days in April I did some trading. I am not sure exactly what the trade values are and I really dont know for sure how the points add up, but I have seen similar trades in the past involving the same type of picks.
1-Rahim Moore S UCLA- A stud FS that can be dynamic in our secondary, we finally solve the swinging door at FS with a blue chip prospect and is also a born leader. After clearly lacking playmakers at the FS position we address this with a player we even considered 9th overall, but got the opportunity to trade down and get him at 15th overall. Moore gives us the playmaker at the S position that every other NFC East team has.
2-Tyron Smith T USC- One of the most intriguing OT of the draft that we can plug in at RT, and maybe become the next D'Brickashaw Ferguson, major upside with this pick even though we clearly don't draft OL around 300 pounds but when a physical specimen of this caliber is there, you take him.
2-Marcus Cannon T/G TCU- Instant starter at RG for us, big boy cow status that will do some pancaking for us and with coaching can get better with his footwork and opening up blocks when on the move and in the second level.
3-Muhammad Wilkerson DE Temple- A big upside of a talent that could become our starting DE and wreak some havoc along the DL, a polished pass rusher with the size to hold up as a 5 technique and stop the run.
4-Casey Matthews ILB Oregon- Not the best athlete but offers all the intagibles we like and pairing with Sean Lee could become epic. Depth is answered with this pick, clearly no depth after Sean Lee on the current roster.
4-Rashad Carmichael CB Virginia Tech-We could use more help at corner even though we have rising stars in Bryan McCann and Orlando Scandrick. Carmichael is a fast and aggressive corner, exactly the mold we like. Also has some leadership qualities and has that Dez Bryant type of fire and passion.
6-Stevan Ridley RB LSU-With Marion Barber's diminishing skills and bloated contract we are in need of a short yardage runner. We get a bargain with Ridley as he fell a little in the draft with some character concerns, but we love his passion and speed. With good size at 6'0 223 pounds we think he can have the power to get the short yards but have the speed to be elusive enough on other aspects of being playing RB. Actually gave us flashbacks to the drafting of Tashard Choice.
7-Josh Jasper K LSU- David Buehler and Kris Brown aren't exactly sure things, but Jasper was about as close as it comes to being a sure thing in college as he was one of the most accurate kickers in college football. Time to have a competition in camp instead of just giving away starting jobs, something we are simply not doing with the Jason Garrett era.
We managed to trade down and pick up more picks so we can acquire more talent. We get our playmaking S that we have not had in a long long time. We get our RT and RG of the future and now. We get a beast on the DL to come in and maybe start right away. We landed a ILB that brings passion and a can start for us in the future, now we dont have to worry about finding Bradie James's replacement. We got a CB that I really think can compete at a high level. I think we got a nice bargain on a skilled RB late in the draft. And we might just possibly have found our answer at kicker. We got a little bit of everything here, S OT OG DE ILB CB RB K. But our clear focus was OL and S.
You may notice the 3 selections from the PAC-10, but Dallas has sent their scouts to scout the PAC-10 out heavily in the past couple of years. We started when we selected Victor Butler and David Buehler in the 2009 draft. 2 SEC players was taken, even though there were a few more we liked. 1 ACC, 1 MAC, and 1 Mountain West Conference player taken. We focused on both sides of the ball, but clearly emphasized the need to fix the OL and S spot early on in the draft.
This draft I think solves alot of the problems and questions we had going into the 2011 NFL Draft. As always feel free to leave your comments and discussions below in the comment section, thanks.

for the record
I tried to be realistic with the trades
I understand each pick has a point value and you gotta match up the values but I didnt do that
idk kinda ruined the fun of being GM for a day, but I did keep the trades realistic as possible

Good Haul
I don’t think Smith is there in the 2nd and I think Wilkenson is probably gone before the 3rd as well, but that aside I would be absolutely thrilled with a draft class of Moore/Smith/Cannon/Wilkenson/Mathews.
A+
yeah
Smith is a tough guy to mock, he could be a top 10 or 2nd round pick we wont know until the combine about how high teams grade him
Wilkerson I think falls to the 3rd because of the high influx of talent left in the 2nd round
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:08 PM CST up reply actions
Are you kidding me?
If this happens, I will literally dance a jig. It won’t, unfortunately, but this is fantastic.
Death, Taxes, and Tim Duncan.
yeah prolly not bro
but going of nfldraftscout cbs ranks thats where alot of these guys are graded right now
its early and it was fun to take some good players
watch out for RB Taiwan Jones from Eastern Washington, deep RB class

The best part for me
Is Cam Newton. I hate him more than any player I can think of in a long time, and to think that he might help the Cowboys’ draft AND destroy the football program at Auburn… it’s just too much to handle.
Death, Taxes, and Tim Duncan.
I dont hate him
I actually like him, its like my guilty pleasure, idk why I do I just like him
but I think he can be a big help to us
Blaine Gabbert AJ Green can help us too, maybe even Ryan Mallett
whats disgusting is Galloway on the Star Telegram wrote about how we should DRAFT Newton 9th overall
I always said have a QB in waiting but theres too much at risk with Cam Newton for us
we need a solid player with our 1st round pick not a project
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:16 PM CST up reply actions
Exactly.
He may very well me the next Vick. He also may be the next Jamarcus Russell. You don’t waste a top 10 pick on that when you have a Pro Bowl starting QB. And I hate him because of my college allegiance, and Auburn’s general douchiness this year.
Death, Taxes, and Tim Duncan.
lol
im not a big Auburn fan myself
I like the U but im diggin Oregon man, the uniforms alone are cool

you know
I wanted to take Kenrick Ellis Phil Taylor or my guy Ian Williams that was hard too not taking a NT
I really wanted to take Ahmad Black but getting Rahim Moore was satisfying
I almost took Ilajana over Cannon but I saw how long its taking Duccasse on the Jets and the two are very very similar so I think Cannon could start right away

but Ben Ijlana is going to have the same issues
teams wont know if he is a guard or tackle, and its going to take 1 to 2 years
but I love both players

was gonna wait until Monday
but I forgot about my weekly post Crack Hits, so I released this tonight
I had this written and saved in my dashboard for about 3 nights though
Crack Hits will be focused on Rob Ryan, the on going position and assistants coaching search, some draft tidbits, and other stuff
Crack Hits is always going to be on Monday or Tuesday, like Peter King

I like it bit it's bit unrealistic
Hey Chia, good work as always. I enjoyed reading this point, and I would LOVE for this to be our draft. If we ended up with Rahim Moore, Smith, Cannon, Wilkerson it would be amazing, but I just don’t see it happening. There is no way that Smith is there in the second round. I still think he will fly up the draft boards and be a top 15 pick at least. Also, I think there will be about 5-7 olineman selected from pick 15-32. If we wait until round two to address oline, there will be a BIG drop off. The trades are hard to predict, but I guess they are realistic, but it’s definitely a best case scenario type of trade. We really do have to hope that a team falls in love with somebody (most likely a QB), and they would be willing to give up that much. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen, but the chance of being able to trade down twice and end up with 2 2nds, 2 3rds, and 2 4th seems highly unlikely. Again, I love the players you have us getting, but this draft seems to be a bit of a pipe dream hoping that we can : We can acquire all those extra picks, Smith will be there in round two and Wilkerson will be there in round three.
all mocks are pipe dreams right now bro
the last one I did was about realistic as it got and I got mixed reactions
like I said Smith is a interesting player to mock right now
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:20 PM CST up reply actions
What if....
Hey Chia,
I’m going to say there is a 0% chance of getting Smith in round two and a 50% chance of getting Wilkerson in round three. That being said, how would you do the draft over if Smith isn’t there in 2 and Wilkerson isn’t there in three?
I could flip that
round 2 I would take another OL I liked maybe Ijlana
round 3 I would take a NT or S there if Wilkerson was gone, like Kenrick Ellis and Jaiquan Jarrett
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:21 PM CST up reply actions
wait til you see my 3rd style
I did the first one as the Cowboys needs and styles
this one was me as GM
the third one is going to be me in Jerry’s mind in the war room
god I got some great material for that one
I never do a humor post but this one I had to do, expect it late this week
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:24 PM CST reply actions
Hey Chia, I grade you A
and I think you put a lot of humor in the whole dialog thing between you, Jerra, and the rest of the War Room. Excellent effort, good read, but like you said, a;; mocks are pipe dreams now.
That being said, I’d be completely happy with this draft. Now, if only Jerra will give you that call ;-)
When in doubt, empty your magazine
what about the kicker guys?
we need to get a kicker, I was going to take a DT or FB there but I think Jasper is a very accurate kicker we could use
my friend had a dog named Jasper once, kinda helped lol
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:25 PM CST reply actions
Nebraska Kicker
What about the kicker from Nebraska? I just remember watching him play a few games, and he is money.
Nebraska Kicker Alex Henery 6'2" 175lbs
Accurate…not a LB type guy though.
Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
theres a reason I didnt take him
I think he will be the first kicker off the board and not last til the 7th round
Jasper is like Henery in ways, both can punt the ball and are very good with placement and accuracy, something we lack in a kicker
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 1:34 PM CST up reply actions
Nebraska Kicker
. . . is one of the best kickers to come along in a long time.
If the NFL goes to 18 games, the roster is going to have to be expanded, including the game day 43
So, you could possibly keep Buehler as the kickoff specialist and really long FG, and still have a stud ST player whether he is kicking off or not. That’d help Coach D for sure.
When in doubt, empty your magazine
True...However
If one man punts AND kicks you can keep another DL, DB, etc…a football player. It is not the norm to have one do-all kicker but would be a trade off. If 18 game season comes about, (I believe it will), teams will need more players. Late season injured reserve lists are long.
Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
Yes, but I can't see us cutting or trading McBriar. He's just too good
But it is nice, a luxury actually, to have backups for those specialist positions.
So:
Buehler: Kickoff, ST cover, backup FG (and maybe real long FG’s)
McBriar: Punter, holder
Jasper: FG, backup punter, backup holder too?
I could see that as a real possibility with an expanded roster and longer season. We’ll need more backups – in all positions.
When in doubt, empty your magazine
Honestly...

I hope so
I mean we got Boniol, the best kicker I remember here coaching but that stance looks flat out awful dude, it looks really short and he tends to curl kicks or overpower them
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 6:02 PM CST up reply actions
With as much improvement as Buehler's made this year
I could easily imagine him kicking 5000 balls this off season. He’s mentioned the things Boniol stresses, but it also has seemed to my eye that he adrenlines to the max and slams the ball.
If Boniol can work with him this off season and keep working on “striking the ball”, just like a golf pro stresses, he may overcome those short kick problems.
Isn’t it strange that we’re more worried about his short kicks than his long ones? Maybe he just takes a second or two longer to clear his mind, focus on the strike, and nail the kick – except he does seem to hook on way to many. LOL, adjust his windage?
When in doubt, empty your magazine
gotta agree
with everything you said
seems like he has some golfer issues on his swing, relative to football
yeah he is money deep, its the short ones
by Archie Barberio on Jan 17, 2011 5:22 PM CST up reply actions
Let me clarify, I like having someone who can do it all in case one of them is hurt.
I have said several times I think Buehler will be fine when he settles down, however he also likes to tackle and I can see him getting hurt. Then we would be up the creek. Thus my comment about Suh.
It would be a luxury as MudMarine said, but who knows how many spots the roster would be expanded by for the extra 2 games a year the owners want.
Great Draft Chia
You should have made the trade with Snyder [ I love seeing that putz getting hosed.] The pieces picked up are really good. But those trades could not happen unless you are the Patriots. Plus I just don’t think Jerry would let you draft all those guys without one special teams player.
Amukamara
Hey, what are the chances that Amukamara falls to us at 9? If he does fall to us, do we take him?
yes
if he falls to us you make that pick in 4 seconds
Amukamara would be godly
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 7:57 PM CST up reply actions

I think moore will be a top 20 pick,
I dont think its a reach at all to draft him at 15, Usually safties go higher because there is such a shortage of good safties.
thats why I took him at 15
I feel thats not a reach there
by Archie Barberio on Jan 15, 2011 10:05 PM CST up reply actions
I like the Draft but have a few issues....
their 12th a 2nd and a 4th,
couldn’t happen
well it could but we would have to give back the rest of our draft picks…..However we could take on their #1 and #2 by trading our #1, 3rd and 4th…
15th and 3rd round pick
could work but we would have to give up our 5th and 7th(the one we are getting from the Chargers for Crayton)
So Dallas would end up with the 15th pick, 41st pick, 44th pick and the 79th pick…

lol sure
but those type of trades where teams give up do happen
just for curiousty how did our trades last year add up in the point chart?
moving up for Dez and Lee?
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 5:49 PM CST up reply actions
Cleveland didn't get screwed
They simply placed a higher value on Brady Quinn than the standard trade value chart does.
Using that logic of ‘overpaying’, every single team that acquires a free agent ‘got screwed’ simply because they paid more for a player than 30 other teams were willing to pay. At the end, supply and demand determine the price in the NFL, as in any other market.

"how bout them cowboys"!!!
gave you an A but
perhaps we should draft O-line in rd 1 and Safety in rd 2, love the trade back. I say safety in rd 2 because seems to be great depth at the position this yr and…
Draft tek has Rahim Moore the 10th rated FS and 8th ranked SS and 123 rd overall.
CBS Sports ranks him 61rst overall
take the stud O lineman in rd 1 maybe we get Rahim at 40 or later?
right now
Moore is out of the 1st on some mocks, and is in the 1st on other mocks
ive never seen a draft where a safety wasnt taken in the 1st round
I guarantee he skyrockets at the combine and solidifies himself as a 1st round pick
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 11:30 AM CST up reply actions
How many drafts have you seen?
In 2009, Louis Delmas was the first safety – taken at the top of the second round. However, first round pick Malcom Jenkins never made it has a corner and now plays safety.
This year there is no safety worthy of a 1st round pick (last year Berry, and Thomas, Mays went early 2nd), but many in the 2nd to 4th range. Will freakish measurables or ‘ball hawk’ skills make of for major questions in other parts of their games?
Has Moore separated from Ahmad Black, Mark Barron, Quinton Carter, Jeron Johnson, DeAndre McDaniel, Kenny Tate or Deunta Williams? He will need to put up some big numbers at the Combine.
I like Moore in rd 1 [at 15-20 not 9 ]
Safety was imo the biggest issue. Let’s put it to bed early. There is more depth to the Oline in this draft.
If we trade back it should be for a OT not a S.
Moore is not significantly better than the other top S’s, but Sherrod and Carimi are better than Smith and the other 2nd teir guys. Hell no to fat-azz Cannon. We do not need another RG to fat to handle speed rushers. Might as well keep big if you are going to draft him. I like Matthews, but doubt he is there in the 4th round. His play in the NCG will have helped his stock as will the play of his brother. I like Ridley as a short yardage back, but think 4th round might be to late to take a CB. We really need another high end CB.
there are a bunch of later day corners
Carmichael to me is a real nice player, real aggresive and fast
I like Ryan Jones from Northwest Missouri State, great athlete and speed, I would love to get him
Curtis Marsh Utah State, I like him because he is taller like Ball is
Johnny Patrick Louisville

Q: Will there be any compensatory picks awarded this yr?
every yr 32 compensatory picks total are awarded to teams in rds 3-7, last yr many players scheduled to be UFA`s were not given that status because of the expiration of the labour agreement so I was wondering if it would impact compensatory picks?
idk
I dont think we have any comp picks coming to be honest

trade romo to get another 1st
If we get moore at 9, romo should be dumped of to the dolphins for a reunion with parcells. then with the 15th grab newton to bring in some swagger (now I hate cam’s attidtude and character, but I’m sick of watching romo walking around like “aw shucks, don’t worry guys we’ll get it right next time.” I want some bravado and balls).

And a lot of us other Romo-homers – a club a proudly claim to be in!
When in doubt, empty your magazine
im guessing you never watched Romo mic'd up
because he does have bravado and balls
man breaks a collarbone and the first question he asks? not about his health, if Miles Austin caught the ball
then is pleading to get back into the game

I played against romo in the wisconsin state playoffs and we destroyed him
now im not tooting my own horn…….but, i played benchwarmer pretting good that year so i got a pretty good view watching him throw 4 picks, which 2 were house calls as we won pretty easily.
i like romo, but hes been hurt twice, and is already 31 for next season. just saying gotta keep an open mind if and when an opportunity arises.

also factor in BPA
Don’t only draft for need, don’t only draft BPA, you have to do a combination of the two. What if you can get a lineman who you rate as 8.5 out 10 in round 1, and an olineman that you rate as 6.5 out of 10 in round two, or you can get a safety that you rate as 8.5 in round one, or a safety that you rate as 7.5 in round two. I would rather have a 8.5 tackle and 7.5 saftey than a 6.5 tackle and a 8.5 safety. I’m only using hypothetical numbers here, but I do feel like the drop off from first one tackle to second round tackle is far greater than first round to second round saftey.
i want to trade our ProBowl QB
becasue his value is falling and i want to get the most for him now, not 2 or 3 years and when miles, dez, and felix are old too.
Camp Cupcake turns to....Camp "Pound"cake
And look where he is.
Romo is a great QB. Top 7 in the league.
Follow me on twitter
I'M GOING H.A.M.
you know
if we didnt have a Pro Bowl QB I would take Cam Newton
but since we have a QB there is no need taking a QB that high
I am all for developing a QB and having a guy ready for the future though, and if we were picking late I would consider a QB like the Packers did with Rogers, but there is no need for that right now
if McGee would throw the damn ball he can be a pretty good QB
he has the mindset (been through alot in his career), the strong arm, and athleticism that is a nice combo

Much Dancing in the Streets
If the draft went this way fans wouldn’t need music to dance.
Nice work CC, and a great imagination-theft in trades. Agree it is likely that we trade down as Denver fired their wild picking coach. (Petterson likely goes there) :(
What 2nd , 3rd & 4th round steals! Smith 2nd, Wilkerson 3rd, & Matthews 4th. !!!
Hardly ever do..but I’d drink to that…in fact..make mine a tripple, and leave the cork out.
There are a few things I question like:
Not even a thought of Duanata Williams with a late 2nd, or 3rd?
Where do you have Marcus Gilbert OT FL? 4th rd? (I like this player, but of course not over your pickin Matthews as a 4th)
Hard to venture a guess what might happen but fun to do :)
Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
I thought about another S
I like Duenta Williams alot but getting Moore in the 1st satisfies my S urge
lol yeah alot of steals
I took Gilbert last mock I did, I think in the 3rd or 4th, he can play guard too
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 2:32 PM CST up reply actions
ahmad black
i really like this kid, id rather have moore but if prince falls to us at 9, i think black can be our guy in the second round, possibly even the third
Hey, I forgave you for not mentioning Duenta just because of
your absolute awesomeness in trading down and drafting with the combination of BPA/Needs.
And hey, who knows, maybe Duenta doesn’t get drafted and we can sign him as an UDFA? I can dream, can’t I? That would really put a chip on his shoulder.
When in doubt, empty your magazine
duenta
ive seen him go as high as the third round, unless he bombs at the combine or gets arrested he will get drafted
May Not B at Full Speed by Combine
Liked him in 2nd before injury and really hope for a steal in 3rd….a 4th OMG. Chip would be huge if that late. Like Black too…either, (or both..or all 3) would start next season imo. Fix it for a decade. :)
Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
I love the needs you address
but I am not sure I like taking Rahim Moore at #15 over the best offensive tackle.
I might have done something like:
Round 1 – Gabe Carimi OT
Round 2 – DeAndre McDaniel SS
Round 2 – Benjamin Ijalana G (or at least I think he can be a guard)
Round 3 – Muhammad Wilkerson DE
Round 4 – Kelvin Sheppard ILB
Round 4 – Rashad Carmichael CB (I don’t really know enough to replace him)
Either way I think I would be happy with the draft, but I think the advantage of these first few picks would be Carimi can probably start away whereas Tyron Smith would be an investment for down the road.

If I had a nickel for every time the Eagles won the Super Bowl, I would have zero nickels
gotta love the draft!
i would take the Carmichael kid in a heartbeat in the 4th. i would also take the Mattews kid at ILB. i love the D.McDaniel pick at SS (dudes a playmaking SS).
i would love to get Bowers but i don’t see him lasting to the 9th pick unless some teams need a WR, QB
the definition of insanity should have a picture of Jerry Jones next to it. he has no idea what he is doing or that its wrong...
yeah
I feel yeah
I just love Moore, I took Black last mock so I didnt want to take him again
Ijalana is more of a guard imo too
I dont see Sheppard lasting until the 4th or I would of took him there
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 5:47 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah.
Sheppard is a tough one because he is in that third-fourth range probably. My thing is just that I think Casey Matthews is getting a little overrated because of his brother.

its LSU DL that concern me, but they put out good LB’s and secondary
LSU DL are always a red flag to me, even though I actually like the pairing of Tyson Jackson and Glen Dorsey

I read article on bleachereport today
and he sells the idea of drafting Mark Ingram, saying he would be the next Emmitt
like how we got Dez (Irvin, we give him 88) then draft Ingram (like we got Emmitt after Irvin and give him #22)
idk I know its not the best idea but Ingram on the Cowboys makes alot of sense

No :P
We have to many major holes for blowing our 1st round pick on a RB.
depends on FA.
If we cold sign Jenkins, Nicks, Blaylock, and Weddle we could afford a luxury pick like Ingram.
thats what i mean
say we sign 2 premier OL, then we could take Ingram

I think Prince Amukamara is the best case scenario
he falls to 9 it would be great, because he just looks like a Cowboy idk why
by Archie Barberio on Jan 16, 2011 8:41 PM CST reply actions
prince
prince has been my pet cat since last years big 12 championship game against texas, if we got him i would go nuts
We can all dream so...
This would be my dream : Amukamara falls to us at 9, and we sign Nnamdi. We could use 2nd round pick on OT, and we could draft Deunta Williams in round three. How would that secondary look : Nnamdi and Amukamara at starting CB. Jenkins 3rd CB and Scandrick as a 4th Corner. AOA and Williams playing center field. I’m allowed to dream, right?
I would love Amukamra too
Are you cutting Tnew? Too me the real issue was pressure from the front 7. Given enough time, NFL WRs get open.

Great Read, Chia
I enjoyed this one a lot. Well done.
One thought: If we drafted Tyron Smith, I think we should put Smith at LT and move Free to RT. Smith has great feet and is probably better suited at LT. Free seems like he could play either.
Love it
lets hope we do get some O-line and a safety in the first or second. Love the Matthews pick…. I fell in love with Dez in ‘08 in a similar way that I’m falling in love with Matthews. I really believe he will be a steal.
In '08,"I want Dez! I want Dez!" In '10,"WE DRAFTD DEZ!!! WE DRAFTED DEZ!!! HOLY S#!* WE GOT DEZ!"
predicting trades within a mock draft...
is inherently a difficult task, and surely there will be some movers after the senior bowl & combine, but this is a really good mock draft which realistically (i.e. no fairley or peterson) addresses some serious need areas on the team.
with that said chia (or anyone, for that matter), i’m interested in your thoughts on the following:
- i think its near unanimous that dallas needs an upgrade at both S positions. after slight wheeling & dealing, you’ve slotted rahim moore at 15. presumably this gives dallas a starting safety tandem of moore & sensabaugh next year (assuming JG & Ryan aren’t willing to turn both S spots over to rookies).
- instead of moore, i’m curious as to what the consensus would be to take OL in the first round (either at 15 or trading down further), nabbing ahmad black sometime in the 2nd, then pairing black with FA michael huff.
So essentially, moore/sensabaugh vs. huff/black?
good argument
me I love Ahmad Black personally, he is my pet cat that I wrote about before
Huff and Black all around is better
Rahim Moore is a stud
Sensabaugh ehhh not a big fan of his
but say we took Sherrod or Carimi then took Ahmad Black I would be very very pleased regardless
what we do in free agency will dictate what we do in the draft
personally I see us signing 2 top tier OL in free agency, allowing us more wiggle room in the draft to address the secondary
Jerry hasnt drafted a OL in the 1s round in my lifetime, it would be odd to see it now
with the success we have had in free agency with OL, Kosier Davis Columbo, I could see us fixing the OL through that avenue
by Archie Barberio on Jan 17, 2011 10:04 PM CST up reply actions
either scenario is instant upgrade
but i think signing 2 FA OL may be too cost prohibitive- even in free agency, run-of-the-mill JAGs like derrick dockery get paid.
mankins would be the prize (and 1 that I can see jerry actually plunking for in a bidding war), but assuming the cap returns, chances are you’re maximizing your cap space with a FA huff or brodney pool, & then using your 1st rounder on OT & picking up a black or deandre mcdaniel in round 2.
how about this
Mike Huff or Brodney Pool
Tyson Clabo and another OL
would be nice
I really want a new S brought in, whether thats Abram Elam Brodney Pool Mike Huff I dont care I like them all
this Tyson Clabo guy is growing on me, I bet Dallas looks at Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood too
by Archie Barberio on Jan 18, 2011 11:49 AM CST up reply actions
clabo
i like this guy too, very physical but its unlikely that the falcons let him go, same with joseph and the bucs, trueblood is a possibility though.
Clabo has serious issues with speed rushers.
He is a total road grader, but he gets owned by speed guys. He would keep Tony ducking all game.
mock draft 2.1
love the trading down and the picks. would have been an A up until draftinga kicker. already have beulher and brown and can always find one on free agency or undrafted fa. not a big fan of the RB pick either, would rather try and get a speedy slot WR. not bad at all though.
Good work, my man
It was a good read. My fav part was that after you call up Rahim, you are the first to speak to him, then you hand the phone to Jerry. Classic! Heres to hoping the first round shakes out the way you wrote it!
