Draft Gurus - Who would you take?

I'm in the middle of a mock draft on another site.  I'll post the results here for all to critique in a few days once it's completed.  My pick will be up sometime tomorrow for the 6th round.  I'm mulling over some options and wanted to know who you think I should pick for Dallas.  Again, remember its the 6th round.  My options are below:

Star-divide

WR: Niles Paul, Nebraska; Jeff Maehl, Oregon; Cecil Shorts, Mount Union (I havent selected a WR to this point)

TE: Mike McNeill, Nebraska; Cameron Graham, Louisville; Wesleye Saunders, South Carolina (I havent selected a TE to this point and I traded away Martellus Bennett for a 3rd round pick.)

OL: Tackle Derek Hall, Stanford; Guard Justin Boren, Ohio State; Guard Andrew Jackson, Fresno St (I selected a Tackle with my first round pick and havent selected one since.  I intended to pick an interior lineman early but the value was never there.)

FB: Owen Marecic, Stanford; Stanley Havili, USC; Henry Hynoski, Pitt (Obviously, I havent picked a FB yet.  None have been picked.  I did, however, select a RB earlier.)

K: Alex Henery, Nebraska; Kai Forbath, UCLA (I would be breaking the seal on these guys, too.)

NT: Ian Williams, Notre Dame (Might have the size at 6-1, 311 to play the nose.  All the other NTs went early.  I did pick a 3-4 End earlier.)

OLB: Chris Carter, Fresno St; Tom Keiser, Stanford; Ross Homan, Ohio State (I havent picked one, but I did get an ILB in the middle rounds.)

DB: CB Chykie Brown, Texas; CB Kendric Burney, North Carolina; FS Jermale Hines, Ohio State; FS Mark LeGree, App State; FS Brian Lainhart, Kent St; SS Eric Hagg, Nebraska.  (I selected a FS and CB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds already.)

Before you start blasting me, I meant to put this as a FanShot. Sorry.

by TCBinNYC on Jan 25, 2011 5:40 PM CST reply actions

I don't call myself an expert...yet.

But this is my 2nd year overall scouting some possible talent. I say Derek Hall.

Also too many people get mad about fanposts and fanshots. If anyone read fanshots I don’t think we’d have this discussion.

With the 9th pick in the NFL Draft the Cowboys select...?

If you don't mine thebigham hounding you, who cares

If you want to discuss something, you should put it here. If it’s in fanshots your lucky to get two peoples opinion on it. If you are just like, hey guys check this link, then yeah throw it in a fan shot, but if you have an actual topic you’d like to discuss, then throw it here. People complain that it pushes other peoples posts off the main page, but that’s what rec’s are for.

You aint been around in awhile, maybe you haven't heard........I don't shine shoes no more

if

Henery’s still there in the 7th, take him. hes one of the best kicking prospects to come out in a while, but no kicker is worth more then a 7th

+1

Lainhart is a steal in the 6th

by oldboysfan on Jan 25, 2011 10:03 PM CST up reply actions

Lainhart is available

However I think I saw some negative stuff written about him from Wes Bunting and I soured on him a bit. Plus, I have already taken a FS in this draft.

by TCBinNYC on Jan 25, 2011 10:09 PM CST up reply actions

Jeff Maehl, Oregon

though we could use depth on the o line. top notch FB available as well I see.Owen Marecic

How is it not Justin Boren?

If you don’t like him then take Niles Paul. It has to be one of the two.

Ian Williams

is good, Niles Paul is making a name for himself, has good size and a very capable route runner.

I'm going to look into Jermale Hines later tonight

draftbreakdown has good videos up on Heyward that just run through plays, I should be able to get a glimpse of Hines throughout the vids

Ross Homan gone ... 4 to go

So, I’m hearing people like the WRs Maehl and Paul. I’ve heard proponets of the Linemen Derek Hall and Boren. I’ve heard FB Marecic, NT Williams, and FS Lainhart.

A little surprised there is not more of a consensus. Do we need to have a 3rd TE since I traded Martellus?

Hoping to get a few more opinions before I’m on the clock again.

by TCBinNYC on Jan 25, 2011 10:22 PM CST reply actions

Nah you can rely on John Phillips and Scott Chandler.

I don’t know how you can pass on the developmental guard we so need in Boren. Maehl didn’t exactly look good in the Shrine Bowl. I will pass on such a gadget WR.

Can help with Nebraska players

I watched every Nebraska this year and last so hears my take on them.

Paul is physically gifted but isn’t a good route runner and drops to many passes and sometimes has a fumbling issue.

McNeil was disappointing this year but I think it was more the offense then him. I could see him as a Dallas Clark type player.

I really like Hagg and I think he could develop into a good strong safety.

Henery is amazing. Doesn’t miss many kicks and has great leg strength. Don’t really know about kickoffs as he never did it at Nebraska.

by jack dein on Jan 25, 2011 11:37 PM CST reply actions

buehler would still be our kickoff guy

henery would take over for field goals, i think hed be a little bit of a stretch in the 6th but def take him in the 7th

by demarcus94 on Jan 26, 2011 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

Owen Marecic gone ... 3 picks prior to Dallas's selection

I also like Hynoski the FB from Pitt, but I think I can get him in the 7th or maybe Free Agency.

I’m leaning towards Receiver Jeff Maehl, Guard Justin Boren, or Kicker Alex Henery.

No problem - get the other FB

I like Havili better anyway at FB. If either of them were available at FB in the 6th, this pick is a no-brainer.

Havili is either the number one or number two rated player at his position, depending on who you listen to. Getting that kind of player caliber in the 6th round is a much better option than betting that some project player may eventually come through for you.

by One.Cool.Customer on Jan 26, 2011 3:54 AM CST up reply actions

Havili is a good pick.

Would that not be all but writing off Gronk. I know he screwed up a couple of times last year, but I sure liked the way he caught the ball out of the backfield. If a straight lead blocker is what we want Havili is good.

by oldboysfan on Jan 26, 2011 5:43 AM CST reply actions

And in this scenario...

they traded away Bennett for a 3rd rounder. That would open the door to move Gronkowski to TE/H-Back if we drafted a true FB. So no, Gronk wouldn’t necessarily have to be written off.

Mario Harvey - MLB Marshall

Late round gem, probably still around in the 7th, but he is a big, strong MLB that can blow up the run and also bring pressure on blitzes. Would work well as the power ILB in a 3-4.

Now there's the kind...

of late-round pick I was looking for in another article’s comment thread. And ILB to boot, one of the areas I want these kind of guys. Give RR some depth at LB/DB to run his fancy schemes.

Pride, Avarice, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth.
5 outta 7 ain't bad. Working on the other 2.

by tanstaafl on Jan 26, 2011 10:48 AM CST up reply actions

Agreed

I like Harvey, but I had just taken a guy in the 5th as an ILB that I like better than Harvey. I will announce the entire draft in a thread here when it concludes. Probably 3 or 4 days from now.

Ok, Dallas is on the clock and is taking ....

Thanks for everyone’s input. I considered all the comments. If anyone’s interested, I can do this again when I’m up in the 7th round.

TE – I agreed with Creasy in that we should be ok at TE with Witten, Phillips and Chandler. I might consider one of the remainign TEs as an UDFA, but wont be taking one.

FB – I like Marecic, but when he got taken, I stopped considering a FB at this point. I like both Havili and Hynoski, but they are different players. Havili is only 228 lbs whereas Hynoski tips the scale at 260. I will take a look at them in the 7th.

K – I really like Henery, but I feel we have bigger needs than a Kicker. I dont think he will still be available in the 7th, but if he is, I think I will take him.

NT Ian Williams – Dallas would probably play him at NT, but I would like a bigger guy there. I think we hold off on getting another 310 lb Nose. I’m going to pass.

At WR I really like Maehl, but others don’t. Some think he’s a Wes Welker clone who can have an immediate and large impact in the league, others see him as practice squad fodder. In the end, I’m going to pass on a WR at this point. I might reconsider in the 7th.

I’m left with OG Justin Boren and CB Chykie Brown. At the end of the day, I have Brown ranked much higher on almost every scouting service as an overall prospect. I’ve already taken a CB and a FS, but Chykie Brown is the BPA. In the 6th round, you have to take the BPA. He’s the pick.

by TCBinNYC on Jan 26, 2011 10:31 AM CST reply actions

Ok, cool, I will post again for the 7th round when I get 10-15 picks out.

I look forward to your input. Although if Henery is still there in the 7th I’m taking him without question. My only concern is that Henery didnt kick off at Nebraska, and therefore I would probably have to keep Beuhler on the roster. Is that a waste?

where do you find these

id love to do one and represent the boys, it gets a little boring to do mock drafts against other teams who are also yourself

by demarcus94 on Jan 26, 2011 2:04 PM CST reply actions

Many other communities do these

Mocking the Draft has some. The one I’m doing is at KFFL. I’m sure there are others as well.
