I worked 30 years as a technology consultant. On nearly every assignment, I found insiders who had recognized the problems and knew the solutions. So why was I hired? Because the chief decision maker was not listening to his own employees. Happens all the time. Some C.E.O.'s hire really good people and then undermine, overrule, and otherwise emasculate them. It takes a really strong employee to tell the unvarnished truth and risk his job in the process, especially if he has a family to support. (Consultants get paid whether the client likes the message or not.) Will the Cowboy's C.E.O. undermine, overrule, and emasculate his new coach the same way he has the last seven?
