The Cowboys Draft " Mistake"

Pearlman found out the Cowboys went right down to the wire about whether to pick Payton in the 1975 draft, and they went with Randy White because they thought he'd last longer, not because he was the better player. He found out how disappointed Payton was to be picked by the Bears. He wrote how seriously the Bears questioned Payton after a poor rookie year.

Here's the link.

Did the Cowboys make a mistake??

Not the worst mistake anyone has every made still something to think about.

I dont think it was a mistake

I turned out great for both teams because Randy and Walter turned out to be Hall of Famers. Randy was the anchor of one the greatest defenses of all time. If we would have drafted Walter, we wouldnt have drafted another HOFamer…. Tony Dorsett. Then we might have missed out on 2 legends and a championship in 77. Who knows?

The Manster a mistake?

I can’t ever get behind that statement. Even for Payton.

Yeah I wasn’t calling Randy White a mistake.

Just that having Walter Payton would have been nice too.

Randy White is one of my all-time favorites

Loved watching that man play football.

Conversely, I loved watching Payton play as well, but he never donned the star.

Randy was a beast to watch, and had that motor you always hear about that never turns off. Ware has that same type of internal fire that drives a player straight to the HoF, and elevates the play of those around him.

I don’t know if we win Super Bowl XII without, not only Randy’s individual contribution, what he did to elevate the play of those around him.
