I don't know about you (kinda why I'm asking), but I like the fact that the rest of the nation hates us. Fans and mediots alike. Think about it. What causes hate? It has been described as a "deep and emotional extreme dislike". There has to be some kind of personal connection to cause that kind of reaction. And I like that all the haters care about us so much that we get under their skin.
More and the poll after the jump.
Love us or hate us, we are America's Team. And the "hate" part of that equation is a big reason for it. How many teams do you actually "hate"? For me, there aren't very many. Of course we have our rivals in the East, and I includePittsburgh and San Francisco too. But here is a telling tidbit that helps to prove my point about America's hatred making us America's Team. I don't hate the Giants. I don't like them and I want to crush them every time we play, but I just don't have that "deep and emotional extreme dislike" that gets under my skin. Compare that to the fans of all 31 other teams. They hate us. We're not even in their division, let alone their rival. I don't even hate the Giants; how can I hate _________ (insert AFC/NFC West team name here).
Those of you who watch our Cowboys in a sports bar know exactly what I am talking about. The bar I frequent has over 30 TVs and every game is on at least one TV every week. There are fans from at about half the league. The loudest cheers every week, without fail, are when the Cowboys are losing. Especially blowing a lead and losing like we did this year against the Jets, Lions and Patriots.
Why would a Chargers fan cheer that loud when Brady beats us? Why would a Green Bay fan cheer that loud when the Lions beat us? And why would a Dolphins fan cheer that loud when the Jets beat us? Be it envy or jealousy, they hate us. And that, just as much as all the love, makes us America's Team.
So let's embrace the hate. And with a little bit of tongue in cheek, and a little bit of in your face, let's change the name of Blogging the Boys to "America's Blog". What say you?
Poll
Should we change the name of our blog to "America's Blog"?
Yes, we didn't start it. Bob Ryan, of NFL Films coined the name in the Cowboys 1978 highlight film, and the CBS announcer introduced the Cowboys as America's Team during our first game in 1979, a nationally televised game (of course). (79 votes)
No, we are better than that. No need to rub their noses in the misery of other teams' fans. (53 votes)
I don't know. I live in Texas and embrace the hate, but don't want to pile on. (4 votes)
I don't know. I live in _________ state and want to pile on, but don't want to be labled a Bandwagon Fan. (12 votes)
The Dallas Stars are America's Team! (4 votes)
