Chris Cooley (injured reserve, knee/finger) has most likely played his last game as a Redskin, sources tell beat writer Chris Russell.
Cooley is due $3.8 million next season, turns 30 in July and will have missed 20 games due to injury in the last three years. With emerging stud Fred Davis set to hit free agency after the 2012 season, the Redskins need to be saving money at the tight end position. Cooley's knee woes also appear chronic, making it doubtful he ever returns to the form he showed while becoming the Redskins' all-time leader in catches by a tight end.

Chris Cooley (nicknamed Captain Chaos by many Redskins fans) has every right to state his opinion on how he feels about someone like Tony Romo, but there’s a line of professionalism that most players don’t cross when it comes to saying things in public to the media. I consider myself humane enough that I don’t want to see any player get hurt, but in Cooley’s case I’ve made an exception. I’m so glad he got his. He deserved it. By the way, his saying he wants to fight Romo in a cage match is absolutely ridiculous. Cooley is a tight end (6-3 / 255) and Romo is a quarterback (6-2 / 228). Captain Clueless looks stupid for wanting to fight someone almost 20 lbs lighter than him. Hey Captain Overrated, here’s a suggestion, how about going up against outside linebacker Anthony Spencer, who is 6-3 / 261 and has bigger biceps, deltoids, and quads than you? I hope that NO TEAM picks up Cooley. THAT would be hilarious.
