Over the next couple games, we will learn how good Jason Garrett is..

The great coaches of this league make adjustments. The great coaches of this league learn from their mistakes. Now, we will see if we have a great coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

Star-divide

Let's make something clear. This team is not as talented as some think. We have a mediocre running game, a below average offensive line, inconsistent secondary play, and a young, but improving linebacker core. Certainly the Cowboys could and should be able to get a playoff team out of the talent on the roster, but the difference between us going and not -- will come down to how good the coaching will be over the next several games.

Garrett has been involved in alot of close games in his time. The Cowboys have won alot of those games, but in my honest opinion, the close games sometimes throw up a red flag. This team needs to have a killer instinct and be able to put teams away (i.e. Lions, Jets). Some of that falls on the head coach and playcaller. Believe it or not guys, Tony Romo is one our best offensive players and sometimes I think Garrett gets caught up with that fact. For example, the Cowboys tried to get too cute in the third quarter of the Lions game. With the score at 27-3, the Cowboys are trying to put the game away by stepping on the throat of the Lions by, simply, doing what they did all game to dominate -- throw the ball.

Romo, Garrett & the Cowboys have to learn to adjust to the situation and play field position when you are dominating the game. Garrett -- and especially Romo get alittle too giddy with the talent and past success in the particular situations and start to play mediocre ball, and call overly aggressive plays. Somehow, Garrett and the Cowboys have to learn to make adjustments when needed, exploit the weaknesses in teams and look like a championship caliber team. Instead the Cowboys over the last 4 years (coincidentally when Garrett was hired) -- have looked like a team that has a Lamborghini but ... under the hood it has a Kia motor. In other words, the offense looks nice, but it has the system of an generic, vanilla playcaller.

I was wondering

if I was alone in my beliefs about Garrett. It’s good to read that I’m not.

Let’s see if Garrett reacts like we hope he will, because I notice alot of Cowboy fans jumping to squash any negative talk about him and the offense, yet they fail to look at the performance of the offense on the field and accept it’s reality. He has to take responsibility. His philosiphy is making Romo look bad.

What got old was hearing last year that the defense was at fault, as if it was all along. The defense was spectacular the year before last, and was ok since Demarcus came aboard. This was just a deflection tactic, trying to deflect responsibility for winning away from where the real problem has been all along- the offense.

And yes, it does coincide with when Jason Garrett came aboard and was hired by Jerry as OC before Wade was hired.

I think he certainly has potential to be a good coach.

He says alot of the right things. But sometimes saying the right things can only get you but so far.

The fact the Cowboys are giving us all heart attacks week by week is more on the coaches than the players, in my opinion. You gotta put your players in situations that are conducive for success rather than trying to be cute. I’m just not sold on Garrett yet. I’m more sold on Rob Ryan as a coach than I am Jason Garrett.

I have defended Garrett a lot because of how much I despised Wade Phillips

But part of me is wondering if the defense keeps getting better, and the Eagles miss the playoffs, we could have a nightmare scenario on our hands. Andy Reid is probably gone after this year if the Eagles miss the playoffs. If they got Rob Ryan as their headcoach. I would rather have Ryan than Garrett. I think their philosophies are similar, but Ryan has taken untalented players are raised their play throughout his career. I am not jumping off of the Garrett bandwagon, I’m just leaning over the side. I love his job head coaching, but his Offensive Coordinating has had me scratching my head for years.
