Cowboys Call Up Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
The Cowboys signed safety-turned-wide receiver Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the 53-man roster from the practice squad today, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.
It's likely that AOA will see action on Sunday as a kick returner. Earlier this week, it had looked like rookie Dwayne Harris would get called up to return kicks, but he suffered a hamstring injury on Thursday. Owusu-Ansah, the Cowboys' fourth round pick in 2010, averaged 21.7 yards on 25 kick returns in his rookie season before an ankle injury saw him placed on the season-ending IR list last year. He worked on both kick- and punt returns in practice with the first team on Friday.
In a curious twist, Owusu-Ansah, who was drafted as a safety after playing mostly corner in college, was moved to wide receiver at the end of training camp this year after injuries depleted the receiver corps. It's unlikely that he'll see any action at receiver on Sunday though. While the Cowboys will be without Miles Austin (hamstring) on Sunday, Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson will likely get the start, while Kevin Ogletree will also likely get more snaps and Jesse Holley will be waiting in the wings.
To make room for Owusu-Ansah, the team waived offensive guard Daniel Loper. This means that punter Chris Jones stays on the team at least for this weekend, and that Mat McBriar's availability for the game remains questionable at best.

Is it true he's wearing #11 now?
I hope he just keeps the “27” and they list him as S. Hey maybe RR will want to use him for a play or two haha

I read awhile back that they had decided to keep him as a WR and changed his #.
But it has been a month or 2 so I wouldn’t swear it is now #11.

So Akwasi is better than Dwayne Harris and Teddie Williams?
Interesting

I was thinking "Holley"
you’re right, Harris was a non-option as stated above.

To me, this says more about what they think of Ogletree as a returner.
He has done zip, zilch, zero as a returner. AOA is not going to see anytime at WR. My guess is that they are thinking “hey, if we are going to bring someone up from the PS, lets bring up someone that might give us a jolt in the return game.”
Just another reason to cut the tree (see what I did there).

If a tree falls
The non football related answer is yes. It’s yes because it’s granted that the forest exists without being seen, therefore the sound of a tree falling would be there without being heard.
by Dezstroyer88 on Nov 12, 2011 7:33 PM CST up reply actions
But the definition of "sound"
is where the “waves” made by the tree hitting the earth, will “vibrate” ear drums, thus causing what is known as “sound”.
Without the ear drums, it only makes “waves”, not “sound.” :)
Yea, I was being a smart aleck…. can I take it back?
If the play works, never run it again. If it fails, keep running it.
First and goal at the one. Run it three times in a row, and then kick a field goal. Sound familiar?
Actually when I was in collage the answer was no.
I argued with my professor on this one as it is stupid. The question was, if a tree falls and there isn’t a person there to hear it, does it make any noise/sound? I said yes, the official answer was no. I told my professor that I wasn’t so arrogant that I thought a tree would look around and if there wasn’t a human close bye, that it would lay down quietly. I refused to answer it “no” on the exam and got marked off for it.
animals still can hear it
A tape recorder nearby would hear, our education system sucks and thats example #24678945 right there

I am not surprised they are giving him a shot at reciever
He was not an NFL level CB and he just could not develop as a safety. He has good measurables at 6", 210 lbs and running a 4.33 40 which is pretty good for a receiver. He is smart and a hard worker. It would not surprise me if they throw him in for a play or two if they activate him for the game which they probably will.

great speed but ,
can he run routes and can he catch the ball?, big question marks.
great if it worked but probably just in for return duty.

We knew we where thin at wideout
Our number 3 WR could not make the roster at SD and he is head and sholulders better then Tree.
We should have kept Sam Hurd. Wow

BED is right that the team lacks depth
but with a healthy Austin we probably wouldn’t be have to deal with any of this. Another bad year for team injuries…
Don't believe everything you think.
This team needs a lot more talent
This year’s draft will be critical.

We are such a thin team
When we’re calling up a converted CB to safety to WR
however Buffalo’s Starting Safety is a converted WR…..
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.

I agreed with the cut
But it’s sad to me that without getting lucky with the Robinson signing we would be starting Tree and Holley at wideout with Austin down.
Overall I think Dallas has done well with debth. Weak at WR and ILB and probably QB, but otherwise good to decent elsewhere.

D:
You just filled me with so much horror at the thought of starting Ogletree and Holley. Thank our lucky stars for Robinson.
But I agree, we have done fairly decent with our depth at some positions. Mainly CB at the beginning of the year when we were without Newman and Jenkins. Remember everybody (including me) wanting to jump off a bridge when they were both out week one and Tyron was questionable?

I agree. Sam Hurd is what Bill Parcells
calls a “JAG”. Just A Guy. He is like Holley. What you see is what you get and what you will always get. No Potention/UpSide.
If the play works, never run it again. If it fails, keep running it.

I guess Ryan's plea
was more convincing than Garrett’s for Loper. I just think that our running game should get beaucoup more attention as it is ready to explode. At 6’6" 320 lbs Loper could help at least help on a few running plays.

I'm enormared with the Holmes kid on the PC
I believe he’s 6’4 6’5 would really like to see him on the roster soon hope he does well in training camp next year… Tree is done and it would be nice to spread out teams 4 5 wide… We will see how it’s done Sunday or just watch the Packers
by CowboyWay on Nov 12, 2011 9:05 PM CST via mobile reply actions
The guy I really love
is Raymond Radway, this kid was really looking great until he broke a bone, and got put on IR. Jerry said he would have made the roster if he didnt get injured.
The Patriots were hot on getting him away from us. They first offered a 7th, raised it to a 5th, and then were still trying to convince Jerry to trade him to them.
I am so glad Jerry stuck with this kid. I was really impressed with the way he moved and the way he “snatched” the ball, etc.
With him next year we start off with some depth before the draft. Not saying he will beat out Robinson for the #3 spot, but he will be our best 4th receiver in short order if my eyes arent deciveing me, and they usually dont.
If the play works, never run it again. If it fails, keep running it.

What about Felix returning kicks?
If I’m not mistaken he was pretty decent but they stopped using him in that role when he started getting carries at RB.

i would like to see Felix sprinkled in there

Felix being tentative back there. He also did a lot of lateral movement instead of just taking it up the field.
Rabid and luvin' it
I've done the research
2008 – 16 returns at an average of 26.6 and a PFF rating of +3.2. Nice
2009 – 32 returns at 21.8 and a 0 PFF rating. Meh
He clearly has the ability but who knows?
