Cowboys Injury Update: Sean Lee Getting Second Opinion On Wrist

Depending on which article you put more faith in, the news is okay, or potentially very bad, for inside linebacker and budding star, Sean Lee.

Over at the mothership, Lee is quoted as saying he might play this week depending on the swelling and how well he can deal with a protective cast.

Linebacker Sean Lee missed Wednesday's practice with a dislocated left wrist. Lee visited a hand specialist on Monday and he wasn't ruling out the possibility of playing against Seattle. That would depend on how much swelling decreased in his wrist and how limited he would be wearing a protective cast.

"If I can get it wrapped up and not worry about hurting it more than it is, I'd play (Sunday)," Lee said. "I just have to be smart about it."

But if you head over to ESPN Dallas, they take a more pessimistic slant, even mentioning the dreaded words of "potentially season-ending surgery." Lee is getting a second opinion on the wrist and will decide what to do from there. Needless to say he didn't practice today.

Also not practicing are Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins. Punter Mat McBriar was splitting time at punter in practice with newcomer Chris Jones. Also, Kyle Kosier is limited in practice as he has been for weeks.

I'm amazed at how dismissive people are of Seattle

What have the Cowboys done recently to deserve that? They’ve played in nail biters, blew out a sub-par (sorry Rams fans) Rams team, then never got off the bus against the Eagles.

Seattle is a big boy NFL team. Their players get paid to play, and they have pride as well.

The way a lot of people are talking, it’s “write the Seahawks down as a win, on to the next opponent”. You think Pete Carroll isn’t licking his lips at the choice to get at Brady James and Keith Brooking? (Literally, not figuratively, as I don’t know Mr. Carroll’s proclivities).

And if they do win, can we not crown them as playoff contenders yet?

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.

"Meanwhile, like a bitter wine, Philadelphia’s jealousy fermented in the dark cellars of pride and resentment. With no playoff hopes of their own, Eagles fans turned towards hating the Cowboys." Steve Sabol, NFL films

Cause clearly AZ and Tampa Bay

Have shown you they’ve got the fire power on their rosters to pull off the upset wins?

Maybe they lose the Buffalo game, if they can knock off the other 3 NFC East teams, they’ve got a good shot. But I think Dallas’ offense and defense will be ready for them. Especially the offense. Buffalo’s defense was statistically one of the worst teams in everything but turnovers until they feasted on the listless Redskins.

The McDonalds Lawsuit wasn't frivilous

Get your facts straight. The fact is, McDonalds had a history of overheating their coffee to such scalding temperatures. They had been given complaints and did nothing to correct the situation.

Normally when you spill coffee on yourself you don’t expect to need skin graft surgery to replace damaged skin tissue on your thighs.

McDonalds treated the situation with their ridiculously hot coffee like Ford treated the situatuion with their Pinto. They figured it was profitable to settle claims than actually fix the problem. Luckily for this woman, she had a lawyer who zealously advocated her legitimate claim.

Doesn't excuse McDonalds for their extreme and reckless indifference to the complaints of their customers.

by Rohpuri on Nov 2, 2011 6:33 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

No, it was a hell of a spin by McDonalds and the media ate it up.

Like Rohpuri said, learn the facts of the case.

The case was that McDonald’s decided, against the manufactures warning to turn their coffee up to the point that it would case major burns on contact with the skin. Why did they do so? Because it would taste fresher longer, so they would save $ by not having to brew coffee as often.
They deliberately chose to save $ by causing people by scalding them. It takes less than 3 seconds to cause 3rd degree burns with the coffee at 190 degrees, McDonalds tells their stores to serve it at 180-195.

by Rena on Nov 2, 2011 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

So when do people take responsibility for thei own actions? How

was she driving when she spilt said coffee? Why was coffee cup not in cup holder? How many times had she purchased coffee from this location? Did/does she drink their coffee every morning? If she had purchased coffee the before knowing how hot coffee was why not let it cool off before opening?
Im tired of people not taking responsibility for their own actions. Society nowadays likes to blame others for their own actions.

by StrosSouth on Nov 2, 2011 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Simple. Just use the causation tests in tort law

Under the factual causation test: “But 4 McDonalds heating their coffee to that scalding hot temperature, the Plaintiff wouldn’t have suffered her injuries.” The lady’s daughter wasn’t breaking any traffic laws.

Under the Legal Proximate Cause Test: Was it reasonably forseeable that heating coffee to that high of a temperature could cause 3rd degree burns on the skin of people who had McDonald’s coffee spill on them? Stated, if the action of repeatedly selling extremely hot coffee for public consumption, would the likelihood of harm would correspondingly increase? The answer is yes. McDonalds was aware of such risk. They had numerous cases previously settled. They conducted tests, and were warned about these risks. They sat by and did nothing. They were told that by reducing the heating temp, they’d reduce the severity of injury, and vice versa. Still they operated with reckless indifference to their consumers, which were/are over Billions Served.

Furthermore, McDonalds couldn’t even legitimately expect to counter that the woman was drinking the coffee while riding in a car. Because if drinking coffee while in a moving car posed such a high risk of injury, why the hell were they selling the coffee on their drive thru menu? Why hasn’t there been a law passed which bans the drinking of coffee while seated in a moving vehicle?

Furthermore how come McDonalds is the only fastfood chain to be hit with litigation on this issue? Shouldn’t this be pause for concern for their competitors as well? I’ll tell you the answer. It’s because McDonalds was the one who choose to heat their coffee at such high temperatures. They made a conscious effort to be known for serving hot coffee. The general public wasn’t privy to the information as to exactly how much hotter McDonalds coffee was compared to normal coffee. Nor was the public aware that specifically spilling McDonalds coffee on oneself could lead to such serious injury. Why didn’t the public know about these dangers ahead of time? Because McDonalds entered in to settlement agreements with other customers who suffered a similar harm, and those settlements are not a matter of public record as those cases rarely saw trial. This lady’s case was the first one where McDonalds became arrogant amd decided that they’d rather spend more money in legal fees to defend this claim than just simply cut a check.

Well guess what happened? Through discovery, the lawyer for the lady discovered that McDonalds knew about risks of heatinf their coffee at such a high temp. They did nothing. Once the her lawyer found out that info, they lost.

"The tone is business," Garrett said. "Let's get to work. The Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands on Sunday at 4:15. They're an awfully good football team. We have to get ready for them."

and why o why do we still have TWO kickers?

There are decent waiver or practice squad guys out there that could help us. This seems even more glaring given that Buehler doesn’t punt either. Why Why Why…

yep

I used to support the idea, but clearly Bailey’s won the job, and hes done decent on kickoffs. Its totally illogical at this point.

I don't get why we won't cut him for a couple weeks or so

It would fill our current needs better and then once an injured player heals up we could bring him back.. it’s not like anyone’s gonna claim him…

if we could not use the last spot on the roster better,

i would go with Buehler in, too.
oh no, sorry, i forgot that Bailey sends all his kickoffs to the back end of the end zone, only the coverage team is so slow that it’s worth trying to return more than 75 percent of his kickoffs.
guy is somewhere near dead last in the league in kickoffs, the only thing that makes me not scratch my head is that no one took one back to the house against us.

Ok BSPN is killing me today

in a matter of literally 5 minutes there top story on espndallas went from

sources: Cowboys Sean Lee out this week

to

Sean Lee doing everything in his power to play.

They removed the first story all together. So much for that “source”

Are you talking about ESPN Dallas?

I don’t think they are worth the mouse clicks

i know, i just can’t help myself sometimes. If i could get some kind of microchip installed in my brain that would give me updates from Valley Ranch then I would be very happy.

Even without Lee, I think the Cowboys bounce back in a big way

Nothing like a good beat down to sharpen focus and intensity. Time to get back on track and make a playoff push.

Dislocations

I’ve said it numerous times before. With Dislocations there usually isn’t any bone damage, but there is a chance of musle and tendon damage. Which is why the MRI is important. If there shows no severe damage to tendons or muscles but just bruising I could definitely see him playing in the game Albeit limited action, but enough. He would definitely have to wear some kind of protective cast for the wrist. But if there is severe damage to any tendons then that calls for surgery to repair, and that could end his season. tendons are a real pain to heal, and take significant rehabilitation time and effort.

Nice explanation. Thanks.

A couple of things:

1. We sometimes have short attention spans, so sometimes you have to repeat things.

2.

Not complaining

I know there is so much going on here that not every single post gets read, so sometimes I feel the need to reiterate(sp) certain bits of information. And there have been a couple of blogs about Lee and his wrist. I dislocated a toe once and the initial pain and discomfort was excruciating. Then again I’m not one to take strong pain killers. But we are all hoping for the best for Lee.
