Power Struggle?
I am a scientist by trade. So I am rather curious and often develop theories to explain different observations. I have employed my scientific training in analyzing the Cowboys and recent events. A number of somewhat odd occurrences have me wondering if there is not some kind of internal power struggle going on at the Ranch. It may be Jason versus Jerry in a struggle that will determine the fate of this season and this franchise. Let’s look at the evidence and speculate wildly.
Right before the trade deadline, Jerry was spouting off about how there was interest in Tashard from a couple of teams. Last week Tashard is sent packing, simply waived, only to be picked up immediately by a division rival, the hated Redskins. This one smells fishy to me. Earlier there were rumors of the imminent demise of Mr. Fourth and Long, Jesse Holly, or perhaps Jerry’s favorite kicker, David Beuhler to make room for Bruce Carter. My guess is Jerry wanted Holly to go and Jason wanted Beuhler to go. Jason saw the contribution that Holly makes to special teams, he valued him as part of this team, he is likely one of those guys who does whatever a coach needs. Holly also performed when pressed into service, he responded to his opportunity, unlike Marty B. Jason felt it would send the wrong message to the team to cut Holly. Jason stood firm on keeping Holly. Jerry stood firm on keeping Beuhler, for whatever reason. My guess is they left the room saying not Beuhler and not Holly, then I am speculating that Jason pulled the trigger on the Tashard move, likely without consent of Jerry, probably did an end around to Stephen. Had to be, because releasing Tashard, days after saying you could have traded him, makes Jerry look foolish. My guess is there was some sort of confrontation that weekend of the Philly game, which leads me to my next bit of evidence.
Philly Game
There were a lot of tactical flaws in this game, there were some good individual performances, but there was no good teamwork at any point in that game. Stick with me here for a minute, my theory is that the team learned of the aforementioned Jason-Jerry battle and took on an attitude of looking out for number one. After all if the coach and owner aren’t pulling in the same direction how can the rest of the team. Beuhler being active is evidence of some confrontation. Earlier in the week Jason was saying that they didn’t know how healthy Beuhler was, seemed to be setting up to keep him inactive. Jerry has it bad for Beuhler, for the life of me I don’t know why. My theory is that Jerry has some statistic that idicates 1-2 football games a year are decided by kickoff returns and he feels Beuhler practically precludes the possibility of a return. The other wild theory is that every crazy owner gets a kicker infatuation at some point. I guess Al Davis had his kicker infatuation in Janikowski, Jerry has his in Beuhler.
Conclusion (more wild speculation)
The struggle will continue, they will put on a public front of agreement. My guess is that Jason will continue to allow Beuhler to be active, until some event happens that may offer Jerry some plausible deniability. This might be an injury necessitating someone else being active. If eventually we see Beuhler go then Jason and perhaps Stephen (and reason) have prevailed. If not then Jerry has prevailed. If Jerry prevails then Jason will be undermined and will be very unlikely to succeed. I imagine that Jerry and Jason would agree to part ways in the not too distant future. This is simply wild speculation, I have no real evidence, but the theory certainly offers some insight into observations.

Docchain you may or may not be on to something.
It is a plausible theory though. Jerry is and has been the common denominator through all of the horrible drafts and continious fails. I believe your theory is accurate regarding Choice.
Worse yet is , Jerry couldn’t care less how he looks. He is too smug to care. His never ending ego and failure to acquiese to more qualified personel continues to resonate through this franchise.
Jerry is the end all in Dallas.
but Janikowski can actually kick
Bruce Carter+Sean Lee=BRUCE LEE!!!!

it must suck to be Jerry
so insecure that you always have to prove you’re in charge and yet dependent on other people to make it look like you know what you are doing.
...sounds like Congress

the more likely explanation for the loss to Philly
We got our head handed to us. Garrett and Jones could have gotten married and had children together and it wouldn’t have mattered.
Galveston Dave
hate too imagine the progeny of those two
I didn’t mean to imply it explained the loss, just a contributing factor in a thorough beat down.
Richie Whitt stated on the FAN . . .
. . . through an unnamed team source that the power struggle between Jason and Jerry of whether to cut Buehler or Holly did occur and that Jerry was standing firm on keeping Buehler. Your speculation is probably a lot closer to fact than fiction, and sad that we will have to depend more and more on Stephen Jones to rein his father in.
From the hometown of Bob Lilly,
If that's true
I applaud JG for standing his ground. Holley has far more value than Buehler(not really that difficult), but more importantly it would have sent precisely the opposite message of Garrett’s, ’ you play when you perform.’
JJ has made a number of curious critiques of Garrett in the media – relating to playcalling, Dez as PR. It’s a well-known psychological ploy to find fault with seemingly innocuous incidents when you’re real issue is something else entirely.
I can't hear you over the sound of how EPIC I am
Dear Jerry
Please let Buehler go. If you do, I promise I will give you full credit for finding a kicker who can both kick field goals and do an adequate job on kickoffs.
Dear Jason,
Please continue to try and exert your power as a head coach. I know Jerry hand picked you to coach for Cowboys, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking you owe him anything more than doing what you think is best for the team.
Stay strong.
Best Regards

I think Jerry gets too much criticism for being too hands on.
However, I have read tons of articles by people who deal with him and they say he is not that guy that many portray him to be.
Example #1:
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/news.cfm?id=5330AE0F-D029-654E-864639501FD903F6
Quote from that article:
“Josh: No, it’s not going to happen. Everyone should’ve accepted that fact long ago. It’s his company, and this is the way he wants to run it. But you have to know he isn’t as hands-on as most people perceive him to be. Jerry takes advice from the entire front office, and tries to reach a consensus. Some of those people could change, but he will still be the GM.”
Another article that says Jason is in charge:
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/7205166/given-time-jason-garrett-build-consistent-winner-dallas
Quote from that article:
“Everyone in the locker room knows and understands who’s running the team.
That wasn’t the case under Phillips, Dave Campo, Chan Gailey or Barry Switzer.
All you have to do is ask the veterans, who said goodbye to friends Andre Gurode, Marion Barber and Leonard Davis after the lockout ended, whether Garrett’s in control.
An insecure coach would’ve never played the opener with essentially three rookies on the offensive line, because he’d have been afraid of losing games and credibility.
For those of you whining about why David Buehler and Martellus Bennett remain on the roster, you have to understand Garrett can’t get rid of everybody at once.
Next year, Keith Brooking, Bradie James, Bennett and others will be gone."
"
If the play works, never run it again. If it fails, keep running it.
First and goal at the one. Run it three times in a row, and then kick a field goal. Sound familiar?
