Dallas Cowboys Injury Report: Five Players Don't Practice
Gerald Sensabaugh was walking around in a boot on Monday and Tuesday after spraining his right foot against the Redskins, and did not participate in practice on both days. And while Sensabaugh said he plans on playing against Miami, Jason Garrett was a little more circumspect in his prognosis, so safety Barry Church, who got the first team reps in both practices, might get his first NFL start on Thursday.
The other four players who missed both practice days are Miles Austin (hamstring), Tony Fiammetta (undetermined illness), Mike Jenkins (hamstring) and Jon Kitna (back). It looks likely that all four will miss Thursday's game.
Felix Jones (ankle) and Kyle Kosier were listed as 'limited in practice' but it appears both will play against the Dolphins.
Fiammetta's injury situation is more than a little troubling. The Cowboys are now even looking into Fiammetta's family history to try to figure out what is wrong with him. Fiammetta is unable to practice or lift weights due to dizziness and nausea and what have been described as 'concussion-like symptoms', yet the Cowboys cannot pinpoint any specific play in which Fiammetta might have suffered such a concussion.
Asked the origin of the illness, Garrett said the doctors and trainers were stumped. He said the team's entire medical staff as well as specialists have been consulted.
"We are just evaluating the origin of the illness - without getting into too many details about what the different possibilities," Garrett said. "We are just trying to look at it and see why he is feeling sick...just trying to get to the bottom of it."
Fact is, if the Cowboys cannot even diagnose his illness after a week, he's out against the Dolphins, and possibly much longer.
Official Injury Report (via the NFL Media department) for the Thanksgiving game:
| Cowboys | |
| Did not participate in practice | WR Miles Austin (hamstring), RB Tony Fiammetta (illness), CB Mike Jenkins (hamstring), QB Jon Kitna (back), S Gerald Sensabaugh (foot) |
| Limited participation in practice | RB Felix Jones (ankle), G Kyle Kosier (foot) |
| Full participation in practice | LB Sean Lee (wrist), P Mat McBriar (left foot) |
| Dolphins | |
| Did not participate in practice | K Dan Carpenter (right groin), DE Igor Olshansky (calf) |
| Full participation in practice | C Ryan Cook (back) |

Fiametta:
could it be Meniere’s disease? I VERY much hope not, but what you described is similar to my experience with it.
Its scary to think of what's wrong with him...
Hopefully they get to the root cause of this illness…
Might it also be Panic Attacks..?
Those can pretty nasty and bring about a lot of the same symptoms. :-/
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.
Hopefully someone can find out what is bothering Fiametta

Alternatives
Based on production, we need to have a real runblocker in the offensive package if we hope to have future success running the ball. The different with and without a blocker is stark for us. That said, I’m hoping that the great results are because Fiametta is that good, but rather that our alternatives so far have been that bad.
If Chapas isn’t moved into active roster for this game (and it is looking like he won’t be) then we NEED to find an alternative outside the current 53 and PS. Look to see us ad that alternative to the team post Miami game.

my ex wife has that plus vertigo. it took Drs 9 months to figure it out
that was the first thing i thought of when i read this, my ex wifea was brought on by a inner ear infection that she didnt realize she had. then it messed up her equalibrium. it was extremely tough for a log time on her, she had it bad enough where she would black out. hope and pray thats not what Tony “Fullback” Fiametta has.
its preseason watch the players individually. igor is garbage!

Yeah, I didn't get an ear infection (the cause is unknown) butI do have severe hearing loss because of it among other things
its one of the things I pray no one ever has to experience, and I’m sorry your ex wife has it.
My wife has Meniere's as well
When we married, she was taking strong diuretics to minimize the fluid buildup and reduce the frequency and severity of dizzy spells. That allowed her uric acid to build up and give her chronic gout attacks.
Her hearing has also gotten worse over the years. She is almost completely deaf in one ear, and has a hard time with the other.
Improved maintenance medicines have minimized the dizzy spells and the gout attacks, but her otologist has not given hope of ever recovering hearing, or even stopping the steady degradation of what she still has.

after reading what he is going through it does sound like Meniere’s….which does suck BTW…My grandfather had it for the longest time….it is correctable though so there is that
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

I've never heard it's correctable, see this site: http://oto2.wustl.edu/men/mntreat.htm
for me, at least, it would be like closing the barn door after the horses are gone. The damage is already done and irreparable (nothing can fix the nerve endings that are destroyed when the cochlea expands and especially when it erupts in a Meniere’s attack).
I’m very sorry your grandfather had it.
From what I know it it a surgery that
cuts the Damaged Nerve out(which is what causes the Attacks I think)
The biggest Issue is that A) you are permanently deaf in that ear, and B) lose alot of your ability to “Balance”(you fall down randomly, for no apparent reason)
but it does cure the dizzy spells and nausea….
I only know of it because my Grandfather had the surgery…I am not sure if every case is treatable this way though

Hey guys I have a question for you.
Des Bryant will make 1-2 catches a game that only 2-3 other guys in the league can make and it makes me say wow. But then, at times, I wonder if he’s even on the field. Idk if he’s not running crisp routes, he’s getting double teamed, or if we are trying to get other guys the ball, but it just seems weird to me. I was wondering if any of you all that enjoy analyzing this stuff have picked up on the reasons behind this? Thanks a lot, by the way you all do a great job at covering the boys.
by Dynamicduo on Nov 23, 2011 9:46 AM CST via mobile reply actions
I think its a combination of everything you mentioned
poor routes, double coverage, I think the qb doesnt trust him at all when its timing routes, etc.
Dez would really benefit if he had a full offseason
So he can work route running and timing, not to mention his strength and conditioning.

Very interested to hear people's thoughts on this as well
Dez seems to be the kind of guy that will go after the ball, even in close coverage. To my eyes, Romo tends to throw the ball up for grabs fairly often. This is exactly the kind of receiver you want for those passes. I can’t understand why Dez seems to disappear in the second half. We’ve seen Romo find him when it really mattered, so why not more designed targets to him in the second half?
can it be deceit?
JG just makes you believe Tony will not thriw towards Dez any more, and then KABOOM! goes the pass that makes the difference
by slowmotion80 on Nov 23, 2011 10:08 AM CST up reply actions
As a follow-up,
I’m not sure I buy the poor route running argument. How many times have we seen Witten improvise after a Romo roll-out? If Dez isn’t getting separation, I can understand, but surely not all Romo passes are timing-based.
That route he ran against Hall in OT Sunday was great
It is hard to say just watching it on TV because you cannot see what every receiver is doing on a given play. if we had the coaches film we would be able to see what Dez and everyone else does on every play. In Sundays game I think the redskins made some very good adjustments after the first two drives. Cowboy receivers did not have separation as they did early. I do not think it is due to lack of effort. He does not strike me as the type of player who takes downs off
"Talent is God-given; be humble. Fame is man-given; be grateful. Conceit is self-given; be careful." John Wooden
Listening to Romo after the game
it was a route with an option, in which Dez correctly chose the right option based on the coverage. And because he executed the cut well, he was wide open.
Don't believe everything you think.
Huh?
Romo tends to throw the ball up for grabs fairly often
You’re thinking of Eli, who does it on almost every deep play. They seldom throw jump balls, which has been a consistent question by some fans in the red zone. It’s only been the last couple of years that they’ve added the back-shoulder throw, but that’s not up for grabs. Romo probably throws the ball up for grabs less than any of the QBs in the east.
Don't believe everything you think.
Eli "Back Foot" Manning
I don’t know why, but I love watching that guy fail.
Not meant in the jump ball sense at all,
what I meant was 1) I see quite a few throws where he clearly forcing a timing route and has no idea if the receiver will break open (examples are the balls that end up as easy picks or hitting the ground 10 yds from a receiver) and 2) Romo isn’t the most accurate passer all the time (balls a little low or a little behind). Therefore, Dez seems to me to be the perfect type of receiver for Romo. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade Romo for anyone but maybe Rodgers or Brady. I just don’t put his accuracy in the same class as Aikman, Rodgers, or Brady.
If you watch the games again
Dez scores early. Then, once three other team realizes they can’t cover him with just a corner, they give safety help on every play, almost. This works to our advantage, because it opens up a large portion of the field. Dez is a decoy, essentially, until they leave him open. It’s the Coryell philosophy at fault, though I don’t find a problem with it.

Primarily because I have Dez on my Fantasy team. . . . .
Haha be careful with Cowboys in fantasy.
Because I know you don’t want Romo to force-feed Dez the ball and lose us the game. Spreading the ball out is key to any decent offense.

+1
It wouldn’t be too bad for him. . . . Poor Orton gets dumped on all the time, ie: the Bears, Broncos, etc.
While he isn’t a world beater QB, he does enough things very well and would be a great addition.
This offseason I read Orton to Miami but Den and Mia could not make the trade work
With the way Matt Moore has played for the fins does not seem like a landing place for him now.
I would not mind seeing with the Cowboys, but I am sure he see’s himself as a starter and baring injury that is not happening in Dallas
The Bears, KC,. or Houston seem like the likely places.
"Talent is God-given; be humble. Fame is man-given; be grateful. Conceit is self-given; be careful." John Wooden
Not me.
The knock on McGee has been that he’s “Captain Checkdown”. He throws a lot of short and intermediate routes. But, he has shown he has a cannon of an arm when he needs it.
The knock on Orton is that he doesn’t (can’t?) go long very often. He dinks and dunks with a lot of short and intermediate routes.
The main difference is Orton still throws quite a few INT’s (7 in 5 games so far in 2011) while throwing those short and intermediate passes. McGee either tucks the ball and runs, throws it away or takes the sack. As a matter fact, McGee has yet to throw an INT in the regular season. Granted, he hasn’t appeared in very many games either.LOL
McGee may not be the long term answer here, but I’d still take him over the version of Orton that got benched, then cut, in favor of a QB that’s only connecting at 45% and gains nearly as many yards rushing as he does passing.
Rabid and luvin' it
Orton would be a good backup assuming Kitna's age is a factor and the team doesn't plan to keep him.
Don’t know if Orton would relish backup role though, he might still think he’s a starter.
We need to start grooming a replacement for Romo and I’m not sure if McGee is the guy. That would mean drafting Romo’s eventual successor, who if good enough could be Tony’s backup.
All in all, I wouldn’t be against it if he came at the right price and I’m not sure what his current salary is..
Wish you were here and comfortably numb.
Just saw this quote from JG regarding Orton
"Kyle Orton’s certainly been a very good player at a very important position for a while in this league and he’s available," Garrett said. "It seems like there’s a lot of interest in him from around the league. And like with any player who’s available we have conversations, discussions about him and see where he might fit with our football team."
Just thought id pass it on.

They need to feed Fia some meat!
That boy needs his protein! Vegan diets already don’t work for normal people and are constantly forcing people to take supplements. An athletic person, much less an NFL football player trying to go vegan is just absurd. He isn’t getting the nutrients that he needs and it is causing his immune system to falter and thus getting him sick.
I have family members that went vegan for a little while and it made it sooo hard for them. They both got really sick quickly and so that whole vegan thing ended within a few months and they switched to vegetarian. It didn’t stop there either, they still weren’t doing great and were getting sick a lot, but not as often as before when they went the vegan route. A couple years later, they started eating chicken and fish with the occasional beef product and they couldn’t be feeling or doing better.
Sounds like he's sniffing glue or some other toxin.

getting enough protein and the right amino acids requires exceptional attention to one’s diet, especially if that person is an elite athlete. It can and has been done, but it’s a challenge.
