I was watching the Denver Broncos game today and was watching Von Miller who was from Texas and a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. I found myself wishing that he was playing for us. This was about an hour after seeing JJ Watt sack Gabbert like he was a child. I couldn't stop thinking about what it would be like to have Ware and Miller on opposing sides. We wouldn't need to be so concerned about our secondary because no one would be able to get the ball off. However at this point I also had to catch my breath and realize that if he was playing for us that this would mean that Tyron Smith would NOT be playing for us at Right Tackle. Let me get certain things straight before we get into this topic. I DO realize that Tron was a sensible and even a great pick. So this isn't a post about how BAD Smith is versus all the other draft picks. This isn't a post about Jerry Jones being a bad GM either (there are already thousands of those). As a matter of fact even with the small sample size, a quick glance at this draft leads me to believe that this may actually have been one of the best drafts under Jerry Jones (Smith, Murray, Bailey all look like they have the potential to not only be starters but STARS on this team). This is just an early retrospective look at the draft and rookies that we passed on or didn't move up aggressively to get and considering what the team would be like if we had made another decision... let's take a look.
Now the only person I'm leaving off this list as a possibility is Cam Newton, as I believe no trade short of Ware AND Romo (lol) would have gotten the Panthers to pass on that pick. Outisde of him, the only person that I ever even consider is Von Miller.
Von Miller: At 10.5 sacks 3 FF and 57 Tackles. He's in on passing plays naturally, but is still a force on running plays. Effective with the Speed rush, Spin move, and the Bull Rush. Oh and he was hoping more than anything else that he would be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Would it have been a bad idea to try to move up and get him?
Here's a quick look at the first round in the 2011 draft.
