Poll: Who Has Manned-Up For The Cowboys All Season?
We've been doing weekly man-up polls for each game, but now I wanted to ask who you thought has manned-up for the season. I'm taking guys out of the equation who we thought would be good - like Tony Romo, Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware, etc. I'm looking at guys who have been somewhat of a surprise. My nominees:
-- Laurent Robinson - I shudder to think were we would be without him. With the injuries to Dez Bryant and Miles Austin, Robinson has excelled in filling in. Robinson leads the Cowboys with 7 TD receptions.
-- DeMarco Murray - Wow, the kid has been everything you want in a running back. His explosion has coincided with elevating Romo's play by providing a serious running game.
-- Sean Lee - OK, we thought the guys had skills, but man has he broken out this year. And now he's playing with a cast on his wrist and still getting it done.
-- Dan Bailey - Finally, a kicker we can depend on. So much so that we're searching for the best nickname.
-- Tony Fiammetta - Sure DeMarco's been great, but Fiametta has been a huge part of that. We miss him in the running game when he's absent.

I refuse to vote because it is just too hard
I lean toward Murray, but Robinson, Lee, and Bailey have also been very crucial to our recent winning streak. Fiametta is out of it because he has been sick.

My thoughts exactly
Too hard. The Results of the poll reflect that.
I ultimately went with Robinson because I agree with Dave:
I shudder to think were we would be without him.
Kudos to the Scouting department for finding this guy when they did.

It's Robinson for me. He's been the most unexpected success story. That catch he made in the
back left side of the end-zone against Miami was just spectacular.

Leave Holley alone
When Holley gets on the field and Romo targets him, something magical happens…it’s like a Bailey game winning field goal…a Murray 250 yd rushing day…it’s like waking up on Christmas morning…or being stuck at Fred’s BBQ&Gun store in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
Truly a Holley trinity
Plus the killer security blanket comfort zone in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Killer funny. Roared.

Well, when you say "ALL SEASON"
Robinson has only played in 9 games
Murray didn’t really “kick in” unto after the bye week
Fiammetta has missed a total of 4 games
I think it comes down between Lee and Bailey.
Since Bailey is leading the NFL in points scored, I vote BAILEY!

Can't argue that.

Ok, Bailey "won" both Washington games, SF, and Miami
and Lee was in all those games.
"How 'Bout them Cowboys!"---Jimmy Johnson
"...and the Cowboys...STUN the Bills!"--ESPN MNF
No, but it is amazing how important just one kick is to winning or losing.
Look at Boise St. One missed kick, boom they’re done.
For everything that Brady did, if Vinatieri misses those 2 last second kicks then Brady only has one ring and people are not calling him the greatest. So Brady’s reputation really does rest on Vinatieri’s foot.
If Scott Norwood makes that kick, the Bills win the SB. Instead, the gnats and Parcells are great.
One play, one little kick has a vastly disproportionate value on winning and losing. On a QB being THE G.O.A.T. or A goat.
Everything the team and QB did for 59 minutes and 55 seconds don’t mean squat if the kicker misses (again: Bills – Giants). Thus, Bailey is the man so far this season.
"I'm huunngray. I want some f**ken french tooast!"
Agreed.
Without Lee (and the rest of the nominees for that matter) Bailey is never in a position to win the games he has won.

I say Robinson
Lee i expected an elevation in his play this year.
Murray I expected to be a factor (not as big as he’s been but still…) since Felix gets hurt frequently and i wasnt a fan of Choice.
Bailey…hard not to pick him. he’s definitely been far greater than we could have hoped…but he did show glimpses of that in training camp making kick after kick. Still, what he’s done has been great.
Fiametta has been great for the running game but I can’t pick him over the others.
Robinson, off the “streets” and right into the role being a trusted target for Romo. he’s been a big surprise and took the biggest “leap” to me because he had no time with the Boys but quickly became valuable.
Man up means to take it up a notch or two...
Lee has manned up with one wrist. Nuff said.
Lee is a beast
However, Bailey has taken it up to the TOP NOTCH – he leads the entire league in scoring!

Think about the play calling on offense
Garrett can call plays knowing he has a reliable kicker to finish a drive.
He doesn’t have to be crazy-risky in long FG range anymore.
So in your opinion a kicker affects play calling more than a running game?

Third and 7 from the opponents 31 yard line
With Bailey or Buehler….
Which guy relaxes you more with that play call?
OBVIOUSLY Bailey...
I haven’t said that Buehler is better than bailey or that Bailey doesn’t help play caling. I’m asking specifically if in your opinion a kicker affects play calling more than a running game.

We don't know which kicks Buehler would have missed
probably a few, but w/o Lee, Robinson, Murray, we may have been down by more than just a FG. That’s why debating this is kind of a pointless endeavor.

Maybe we expect alot out of the #9 pick overall, but he’s played very well so far and has been the anchor for a young, unproven but promising O-line.
Tought to put a top ten pick in the man-up poll. I think he's met our expectations and maybe exceeded them
but not greatly. Not like the other names on the list.

You only need one Dong, just like you only
need one good kicker. On the other hand, you really could use more than one RB because that position is more critical to a team.
Two dongs on a person, would just be awkward.
If the OC doesn't trust the kicker, he feels like he must get a TD or
at least get 20 yards closer than he would with a kicker he trusts.
Therefore, the OC calls riskier plays. But you do have a point about the goal line, so idk.

I really doubt that
We needed more than a FG when we lost to the Giants in the playoffs, needed more than a FG in that unmentionable game in Philly the next year that knocked us out of contention, and the following year in Minnesota needed more than a FG. A running game in all these situations would have helped our team and QB protection, which was horrendous in these games. I don’t think we “got by,” especially with the talent on the team. I’m thrilled about Bailey but when we have the running game, we have a much more potent offense.

What a difference a year makes
At this time last year the Headline would been: ‘Who has Wussed Out for the Cowboys?’
And the list of nominees would have been substantial
So:
Thank-you JG for a culture change that actually has us talking about a team that Mans Up
Thank-you Rob for a better D. Now, stop reading this, get back to work and make it more so
And thank-you JJ for this remarkable list of players in the poll above. I’ve given you much grief for your failures, but here the credit is well-deserved.
Further, thank-you to the Usual suspects for their success we’ve come to expect, but NEVER take for granted – DWAre, TR and The Senator
And lastly, this list would not be complete without a hearty Thank-You to the Eagles for sucking. Karma, she is a major bitch, we know – just reference our last season.

So if Smith, Carter and Murray are the 3 alone, it’s a bust draft? Sheesh, you are out there.
Cry 'Havoc!'
Carter has done nothing. Nada.
So it’s still up in the air.
Of course you DID qualify it with IF. Nice cya take.

Didn't say he'd done anything
That’s neither the issue nor the point. You said “Akin needs to pan out” immediately after “In 2 years you will know immediately if the 11 draft was as good as some think it was”, by which your clear intent is to say that the 2011 draft “goodness” will be determined by Arkin panning out.
Once again, your response is “Nice cya take”.
Or are you ducking out on what you said? Oh wait, that’s a cya by running away. What you said is not what you meant? Sweet cya there.

You said “if”. Qualifier. Heh!! Observing…hmm

You say Arkin "needs" to pan out...
… “in 2 years” to “know immediately if the 11 draft was as good as some think it was”.
I say it’s not a “need”.
Simple as that.

Since you say it is...
… I’ll accept it is, for you. For me, nope, OL struggles ain’t pleasure. Still does not mean Arkin “needs” to “pan out” for the 2011 Cowboys draft to be considered “as good as some think it was”.
Cry 'Havoc!'
You say "in 2 years" and you're giving him a hard time for saying "if"?

Do they "really" have interest in rob?
The only person i have even heard mention is John Clayton and he was just throwing names against the wall that they “might” be interested in. Its actually against the rules for teams to even mention coaches on another staff while the season is in progress.

RR will ultimately get a gig as a HC, but I don't see him as a big picture guy. He's more of a hands on detailed oriented
defensive guru. Just like his dad and his brother Rex, he"ll make a mediocre HC. Too bad we get great DC too early in their career. I’d love the long term consistency of a Labeau or a Capers as my DC. Hey maybe we get Norv back as OC, his HC career should be over soon.
Wish you were here and comfortably numb.
Shoulda kept Zimmer and stuck with the 4-3.

I'm not that down on Spencer, but I still think we're committed to the 3-4.
We certainly don’t have the personnel for a change to the 4-3. Do we?
We do need a better push from our DE position. I was hoping that Butler and Carter could contribute from OLB in passing situations, but if a 3-4 OLB were there in next years draft, it would be hard not to pick him. Given time, a full training camp and an infusion of some D talent next year, I’m looking for RR to create something special, assuming he’s still with us and not a HC somewhere else.
Wish you were here and comfortably numb.
Our d linemen are more 4-3 than 3-4 imo.
The only true 3-4 player we have is Ware.

Where would this defense be without Sean Lee? Opposing TE would be more than leading the league in yards…. they would feast on this defense. When Sean Lee is out, this defense is exposed. He is also playing injured. Sean Lee stepped up ALL SEASON!
All the others mentioned are critical to our success.
Agreed I voted for Lee as well

Got to go with Murray.
Though everyone on this list deserves some recognition to some degree.
Realist.
since it is for "all season"
gotta go with Dan Bailey…
Murray – Not all season
Lee – Missed a game do to injury
LR – was not on squad all year
TF – been hurt
the all seaon part really disqualifies everyone but Dan
He who laughs last, thinks slowest
"Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name"
"Really love your peaches, want to shake your tree"
You've got to go with Murray for dramatically reshaping the entire team.
You think its coincidence that Tony is playing some of his best ball in years since Murray emerged? Bailey is close in second, and Laurent is right behind him. Without being able to play Fiametta has not manned up, but definitely deserves an honorable mention!
Read most
of the comments and can’t really disagree..Each player deserves the ‘manned up’ title(I voted for Darth Bailey.. 4 game winning kicks?? Oh come on!!!!!) But what about Garrett?? The fact that he has placed each of those players in a position to be successful and they all have been tells me he should have been on this list
I have to go with L Robinson
Here’s a guy that was cut from two teams, comes to Dallas as basically his last chance to make it in the NFL and now, with 5 games left leads the team with TD receptions. As great as S Lee and D Murray have been, they were drafted by the team and were kind of expected to step up. Bailey has been awesome, but he’s a kicker and saying man up with a kicker just doesn’t mix well with me.
Look at Murray's uniform, that right there get's my vote
On the one hand, Bailey has given this team 108 pts, 2 unassisted tackles, and 99% of kicks between 20-50 yds.
On the other hand, Murray named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November, doing this without Fiammetta. And Bailey can’t get into field goal range without Murray’s production. Plus, it’s been a party ever since he broke out in wk7.Just for the mere fact that Bailey can go throughout the entire game with a pristine uniform, as opposed to Murray who often times after the game looks as if he’s been dragged behind a horse, I have to give it hands down to Murray.
Couple notes that deserve a full post,
but kinda go along with this one…
DeMarco Murray Offensive Rookie of the Month…
Per PFF: Cowboys are the second BEST team in the NFL at tackling… wow, that is a change from last year.
"They say that life's a carousel, Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well The world is full of Kings and Queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It's Heaven and Hell"
Too hard… Darth Bailey has been clutch at a position I swear I thought we would keep switching out guys who kept losing us games for another decade and a half.
DeMarco has been beast, but while I love what I see so far, I am just riding the train on this one to see where it goes. Is he a true #1? I don’t think anyone is 100% sure yet, but I know we all love what we’ve seen so far.
Robinson has been simply a gift. Runs good routes, has pretty sure hands from the looks of things, and Tony seems to trust him (part of me thinks Tony likes having another Illinois alum to throw the ball to as well…). Great performance, thank you so much for being better than Kevin Ogletree, Laurent. Trust me, we all appreciate it.
Sean Lee is who I voted for simply because we knew we had issues at ILB, we said you earn this job and be the man. Sean Lee then kicked two ninjas in the teeth simultaneously, did fifty diamond pushups, and still made the tackle for a loss. I don’t think that this situation could have worked out any better than we could have hoped for, because he was still largely an unknown quantity at the beginning of the season. I guess there’s a second linebackers jersey that I’ll be purchasing myself for Christmas…

rec'd for this:
Sean Lee then kicked two ninjas in the teeth simultaneously, did fifty diamond pushups, and still made the tackle for a loss.
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten
