Vikings set to release Donovan McNabb, do we put in a waiver claim for ol' small-hands?
I happen to think he'd be a serviceable #2. I'd prefer Kitna, but with him out, it comes down to McGee as our lone backup. With the failings of our O-line, and the playoff picture shaping up, now is not the time to be caught with our pants down at the backup QB position.
Even still, there's a part of me that assumes he would actually be the #3 guy anyways.
What do you guys think?

What are you talking about?
McNABB is done.
If Romo goes down, for any amount of time we are done. A washed up vet isn’t going to help anything. McGee can fill in for a game at most.
Having 2 Qbs is a perfectly reasonable roster move.

K.
So you don’t think we should put in a waiver claim, then?
Having 2 Qbs is a perfectly reasonable roster move.
Yes it is. I’m not sure what this statement is in reference too, as my point was that if Romo goes down, it would be nice to have a backup for our backup. So I agree, yes, having 2 QBs is a perfectly reasonable mandatory roster move, and having 3 QBs is pretty advisable.

we have two qbs right now.
Mcnabb is done, no claim.

Sorry, but I can't help but disagree with you here
And it really doesn’t matter if you think McNabb is better or worse than McGee. You need 3 quarterbacks. Period.
If your starter goes down, you play your backup. But that’s not the point in time that you sign a 3rd quarterback… because if your backup happens to go down, you don’t want somebody 5 days into the system ho has no clue what he’s doing. You NEED three quarterbacks on your team at any point in time who are learning or working to learn the system.

No you don't sorry.
If you have to rely on QB 3 your season is over. And a lot of coaches agree with me. We rode with 2 QBs before so has many other teams.

"A lot of coaches agree with me"
But most don’t, so that point is completely moot

Sorry...
here is a list of teams with only 2 QB’s on the 53-man roster:
NYG – Manning and Carr
Redskins – Grossman and Beck
Packers – Rodgers and Flynn
Falcons – Ryan and Redman
Saints – Brees and Daniel
Bucs – Freeman and Johnson
Rams – Bradford and Feeley
Bills – Fitzgerald and Thigpen
Dolphins – Moore and Losman
Ravens – Flacco and Taylor
Bengals – Dalton and Gradkowski
Broncos – Tebow and Quinn
Chargers – Rivers and Volek
That’s 13 out of the 32 teams…that’s a lot.
A large number of the teams carrying more than two QB’s on the 53 are teams that are dealing with dealing with instability of some type. Everything from injury to their franchise QB and are now just throwing crap at the wall hoping something will stick until their star comes back(Colts, Texans, Chiefs and Bears) or are breaking in QB’s with 3 or less seasons (Vikings, Panthers and Jets) or have/had recent uncertainty at the starter position (Seahawks, 49’ers, Cardinals, Browns, Jaguars, Titans and Raiders).
There aren’t many teams that are considered stable at QB and carry more than two QB’s on the 53…Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers and Eagles. The Eagles stability is debatable due to Vick’s style of play.
Rabid and luvin' it
So they're dealing with dealing with instability...
That’s a lot of dealing with it. LOL
Can’t believe I even missed that on the preview.
Rabid and luvin' it
Haha thanks, I was too tired to look it up.
Thanks!

I know for a fact some of the teams on your list have a 3rd QB on the P.S.
Broncos for sure, would have to look up the rest. I would be more interested in sniping a QB from someone’s P.S. than McNabb
Michael Vick- $100 million
Nnamdi Asomugha- $60 million
Asante Samuel- $60 million
Desean Jackson- $0 million
Eagles spending a ton of money and going another year without a superbowl- PRICELESS
And before anyone says P.S. doesn't count, guys on the sqaud have been called up before when injuries happen
Redskins, Dolphins, Broncos, falcons, Rams, Bills, Saints, Bucs, Ravens, Bengals Chargers all have QBs on the P.S.. So that means that only the Packers, Giants, and Bills are really the only team that thinks you really only need 2 QBs that have a vague idea of your system for a given year
Michael Vick- $100 million
Nnamdi Asomugha- $60 million
Asante Samuel- $60 million
Desean Jackson- $0 million
Eagles spending a ton of money and going another year without a superbowl- PRICELESS
That's why I specified...
53-man roster in my post…even mentioned three times.
I’m well aware that most teams have a developmental/emergency QB stashed on their PS.
Rabid and luvin' it
Obviousl most coaches do in fact agree with Admiral
or they would not have a QB on the practice squad
Michael Vick- $100 million
Nnamdi Asomugha- $60 million
Asante Samuel- $60 million
Desean Jackson- $0 million

I prefer McGee
Orton would’ve been better than McNabb and that’s proof of how far he’s fallen. I say we stick with McGee.
I agree. I would have been happy landing Orton as a backup.

Here it is
According to ESPN’s John Clayton, Dallas has waiver priority over Chicago. Of course, that could be moot when it comes to Donovan McNabb.
Matt Mosley of Fox Sports Southwest says the Cowboys don’t want him, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune says the Bears don’t want him. And you, Texans of Houston?

He will be claimed
Not many QB’s can play air guitar like McNabb.

One of my favorite Eagle moments
Donovan comes out, acts like a jackass, gets his ass kicked, that becomes his last game as an Eagle, he gets traded, and his career goes into the toilet.
Feels like cosmic justice. The skins fans got to tout that Lavar ended Troy’s career. We ended McNabb’s.

Or hump fans via the protective glass...
What was that all about. I think you could definitely tell he was nervous going into that game and just trying way to hard to hide it…

The Texans have to get him
I bet the Cowboys pass because his contract is a bit too high for a likely #3. Houston is probably pretty stoked, though.
NO!
i’d rather have mcgee… he knows the offense and doesn’t throw balls into the dirt..and he’s fresh and young and has some legs, <—- which is needed with our young o line
Kyle Orton i could understand — much better qb than mcnabb, at this point
Too bad McGee
didn’t get more reps last year, when Romo whent down.
I know, that was a bad move for JG

The Raiders are dumb
This is off topic a little
They paid thorugh the nose for for Palmer. They could have had McNabb for free.
Palmer is better than McNabb but nothing like the price the paid for him
actually the colts should pick him up
he is better than their QBs
With Orton it was a sign and trade deal
that made the Cowboys interested in him. I don’t know if there is a similiar situation with McNabb. With McNabb, for sure there is a roster spot in the league for him, because there are a lot of bad teams who need a QB. With the way high college prospects are washing out in the NFL, a veteran QB is the surest bet.
Looking long term, is McNabb an upgrade over Kitna, I think so. The Oline is still a little dysfunctional which leads to too many sacks and hits on Romo. Romo is injury prone for a reason and it would be well worth it to have a solid back up.
no. just no.
If we could pay him in cheeseburgers or something i’d be for it… but why assume any cap at all for a guy who lost his try pants 3 or 4 years ago?
I would take him....
just to make sure Chicago and Houston do not get him. You never know who you may need to beat out for a playoff spot or who you may be playing down the road.

as far as playing down the road
I’d love to play anyone down the road with McNabb as their QB!
