2012 NFC Pro Bowl Fan Voting Results: Seven Cowboys Recognized

The final results of fan balloting for the 2012 Pro Bowl were announced by the NFL yesterday, and only one Cowboys player is the top vote getter at his position in the 2012 NFC Pro Bowl fan voting, and that's DeMarcus Ware.

With Jason Witten, rookie Dan Bailey and special teams ace Danny McCray, three other Cowboys rank third at their respective positions. In total, seven Cowboys rank in the top-five of their respective positions in the NFC Pro Bowl vote. In addition to Ware, Witten, Bailey and McCray, Gerald Sensabaugh, Mat McBriar and Tony Fiammetta have been voted into the top five of their respective positions by the fan vote.

Aaron Rodgers is the top vote-getter for the 2012 Pro Bowl with 1,581,982 votes in a year featuring a record 100.64 million votes cast by fans. Rodgers leads an NFC selection that's completely and utterly dominated by the Packers, who have 21 players within the top five at the 18 available positions. The Packers are followed by the 49ers with 15 players, the Bears with ten and the Saints with nine. Philly has five, the Giants four and Washington two.

After the break we take a more detailed look at this year's Pro Bowl vote.

Star-divide

The AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams are selected based the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches, each of which will count one-third toward determining the 43-man rosters for the Pro Bowl. NFL players and coaches started casting their votes yesterday, and final Pro Bowl teams will be announced December 27.

For the top AFC vote-getters, follow this link.

Some Cowboys players are notable absentees in the fan voting, like Tony Romo, Sean Lee, Jay Ratliff, Tyron Smith or perhaps one of the receivers. To get in, they'll need the votes of the players and coaches.

Listed below are the final 2012 NFC Pro Bowl fan vote totals for all positions:

Apparently we didn't vote enough

Romo should be the 3rd QB in. He’s definitely deserving. Hopefully we will have more guys go in once all the votes are tallied.

by Antonio S on Dec 22, 2011 10:29 AM CST up reply actions

Why count his fumbles but not his rushing TDs?

He had 30 TDs to 18 turnovers. I think the biggest problem is that the voting is done so early. They should wait until the playoffs to open it up to the fans. Until the past couple weeks, Newton was ahead of Romo in the PFF ratings. Since then Romo has surged, and by the end of the season, he will likely be even higher. If Romo leads his team to victory in the next 2 games while playing as well as he has been lately, I suspect he would be much higher on the list for fans.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 22, 2011 11:01 AM CST up reply actions

He has single handedly lost numerous games for his team by throwing int's

Im not saying he’s not a slightly above average QB, but a pro-bowler??? Not even close

For a Rookie he's been good

but I do agree, not pro bowl worthy.

Ur comparing romo to cam newton??? Lmao

Im critical of Romo at times but there is no comparison between the two. Romo’s stats 29 td’s to 9 int’s 3900 yards RAT 102.6. Cam newton 17 td’s to 16 int’s RAT 82.3

by Dynamicduo on Dec 22, 2011 11:14 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

You're right, they are completely different.

There is more to Newton’s game than just throwing the ball, since he has 600+ rushing yards and 13 rushing TDs, but only the same amount of fumbles as Romo. There’s more to being a quarterback than just QB rating.

I’m not saying that Romo isn’t better, but it seems ironic for a fan of his to say that someone else is not deserving for throwing INTs that cost his team the game. Particularly since what is probably hurting Romo more than anything are him coming apart in 2 high profile losses where we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and him not calling the timeout in the ARI game.

Romo has been getting better as the season has gone on, while Newton has struggled as you expect from a rookie, so the bigger problem is having the voting open and close so early.

I think Romo deserves the spot over Newton, but I can understand why a lot of fans of other teams wouldn’t agree.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 22, 2011 11:25 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah part of it is narrative too

I.E. Tony Romo will always be unclutch

Still, Cam Newton is having a pretty good year, and I do think that rushing TDs should count for how we assess a QB.

I'm not saying Tony Romo is the reincarnation of the mythical Romulus. I'm just saying

by NYHorn on Dec 22, 2011 11:27 AM CST up reply actions

And 12 more passing td's

Even if you add in rushing Tony Romo has 30 td’s-9 int’s cam newton has 29 td’s-16 int’s. This conversation is a joke baked potatoe is a joke. We’ll see how much Cam newton wins.

by Dynamicduo on Dec 22, 2011 12:41 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

What is the argument here?

I said Romo was better. I think he was hurt because the voting is done before the season is over. I can understand why fans of other teams might not think Romo deserves a spot, based on his role in two historic collapses this year. Newton’s running skills present an element that is not easily reflected or quantified in his QB rating. Which of my points do you disagree with?

I’m assuming you are very young, based on your math skills.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 22, 2011 1:40 PM CST up reply actions

No I'm 25 and in med school

Sorry I thought can had 12 rushing td’s not 13. Doesn’t change my point. What qb’s are successful on a regular basis? Name the top qb’s in history. Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Peyton manning. Even add in the next 5 and NONE OF THEM are rushing qb’s. Pocket passing qb’s are the ones that are consistently successful in the nfl. Cam newton’s stats don’t COMPARE with Romo’s. his abilities don’t compare. In college? Sure cam was a better QB but this is the big league. Teams are faster and stronger and that garbage doesn’t fly. He had an average year at best, Andy Dalton had a much better year, but the fans also voted cam over him for rookie of the year. I wonder why??

by Dynamicduo on Dec 22, 2011 2:29 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Duante Culpepper?

by NYHorn on Dec 22, 2011 2:54 PM CST up reply actions

So you think Cam sucks?

Is that what we’re arguing? Because I have agreed that Romo is better, so I’m not sure why you keep trying to convince me.

I’m confused about why you think Dalton had a better year than Newton. Even without factoring in Cam’s rushing stats, he also has a higher QB rating than Dalton.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 23, 2011 1:14 AM CST up reply actions

Dalton is much better qb than Newton

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 22, 2011 1:41 PM CST up reply actions

I have read over several of your posts and u argue just to argue.

I assume you are very young because you know nothing of football. Murray is equal with Felix?? Lmao anyone that knows anything about football can see Murray is a much better RB. He has better vision, he’s more elusive, and he is much more effective in the passing game. U make me laugh. I’m done arguing its pointless.

by Dynamicduo on Dec 22, 2011 2:35 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Ah, you're one of those.

You say I argue just to argue, yet you are the one that is being insulting. Because I knew you were young, you attempt to insult me by saying it back to me. You don’t actually provide any evidence to support your opinions, as you know that it doesn’t exist. And you argue your point and then say you’re done arguing, like a child covering their ears.

So, I invite you to show me that Murray is superior to Felix. Murray simply had the benefit of playing against the Rams, and playing more often with a FB and decent LG. In the games where they both played, he didn’t outproduce Felix. Now, this might blow your mind, but I think they are both very good. I don’t have to dislike a player to like another.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 23, 2011 1:05 AM CST up reply actions

Murray and Felix are both talented

but clearly Murray is tougher and more powerful runner and can withstand full work loads each week.

Felix can’t…thats the big difference.

i believe Andy Dalton > C.Palmer with the Bengals team.

if Palmers really healthy & had a Wr (outside of TO , his best target ever) that cant get off the line in press coverage or tends to run inconsistent routes or freelances useless routes like he had no idea about the playbook. at one point Chad Johnson was awesome by pure ability & will but he never reached his potential in his prime for what ever reasons & now its either the biggest kept secret in the NFL or Ocho is nothing but a No No. the Pats dont give much info & im sure he’s on the injury report every week.

Every team has a great gameplan until they get Punched in the Mouth. Sean Lee is a welcomed addition at ILB & Kegabear's prediction about Spencer looks spot on so far.

What the crap has he done? This is what happens when you let fans vote.

by Cowboy Curtis on Dec 22, 2011 10:25 AM CST reply actions

Hawk has something about his game the Packers like.

on a nfl network show they had N.Barnett as a guest & he kinda rubbed off in my opinion that Hawk was just a run stopper & a guy to take on a blocker so a barnett could come free for a QB hurry or sack. when the time come to pay the player barnett was sent packing & hawk got a new deal.
Hawk might not do all the pretty work (B.James type) but he’s a leader in the locker room thats highly respected. Rolling the dice on Lee, carter, draft pick or even a cheaper vet FA for depth/exp. i dont want to run B.james off to fast but i rather have him as situation player, leader & can step in at a acceptable level off the bench, price wud be the only issue or if they believe in some younger players.

Every team has a great gameplan until they get Punched in the Mouth. Sean Lee is a welcomed addition at ILB & Kegabear's prediction about Spencer looks spot on so far.

Or else the pro bowl would Green Bay and San Fran vs. New Enland and Pittsburg.

He had a couple of average at best games without Fiametta playing, and I think it has been shown that the biggest difference between Murray and Felix was Murray playing with a FB.

Murray breaks that first tackle better then Felix ever has.

Felix might be slightly more shifty but the difference in Murrays vision & ability to break tackles makes him the future if he can healthy.
i fully expect Jerry to let Felix, Spencer & Bennett explore FA before he even wants to talk. Jerry knows Lee will deserving a huge raise in a couple seasons if he continues to play better. they still have to deal with Mike Jenkins & this years draft will tell a lot about which players are on the hot seat.

Per OCC
According to PFF, Jones forced six missed tackles, and picked up 83 of his 108 yards after contact, a stat that may come as a surprise to many fans. Felix Jones was a tough runner on Saturday. Jones had just two 100-yard games prior to this season, but added three more this year, with the last two coming in consecutive games against the Giants and Buccaneers.

Ok, except....

According to the fans, there are 16 GB players in the top 2 at their position. We were 13-3 that year and had a great season, no doubt. Not saying some of our guys that year that got in were truly the best at their position. But c’mon, 16??? I’m not arguing that they are having a good year, but a lot of these positions are a real stretch. John Kuhn? Really?!? Their entire offensive line? Last I could tell, Rodgers gets sacked as much as nearly every other QB in the league, and their running game is atrocious.

But I think the comparison is apropos—fans who don’t watch the games know that team is doing well, so they pick their players. OR, because the teams are doing well, they get a lot of national air time, so fans get to know their players.

Yes because

Clay Matthews 44 Tackles, 2 FF, 2 Ints and 6 Sacks have been truly dominant.

A better comparison is Anthony Spencer

They both play OLB in a 3-4, Spencer has 56 tackles, 3 FF, 0 Ints, and 6 sacks. Matthews provides more consistent pressure, though, with 39 QB pressures and 20 QB hits compared to 31 and 6 for Spencer. He’s also credited with 8 passes defensed, compared to 1 for Spencer.

PFF has Matthews as the highest rated NFC OLB in a 3-4, ahead of even Ware. Ware is hurt by having so many penalties.

That's the problem with basic stats

But, the Packers won the Superbowl and have only lost one game this year, so they must be good,

and by extension, everyone of their players must be the best at that position. I mean, I’m a football fan. I’m just going off reputation of team. Did you honestly expect me to analyze players?

by Grimlock83 on Dec 22, 2011 11:38 AM CST up reply actions

It's a hard position for most people to judge

But Kuhn has as many rushing TDs as every other FB in the NFC combined, and as many receiving TDs as any other FB in the league. That has to count for something, especially when the ballot has sortable individual stats. Most people are going to pick either yardage or TDs, and then name and team recognition is a factor.

It should probably be Kleinsasser, but he’s listed as a TE, not a FB. Miller and Collins are pretty good. I have no idea how the Bears guy got on there.

Fans are stupid.

They are very few players from “losing” teams. It just proves that they just vote for whos winning. Probowl is an utter joke.

Of course :0

No way to quantify their play with stats, like the other offensive positions. They should use the PFF grades, but that would be too easy. I guarantee Tyronasaurus is far and away better than both of their tackles. What a shame. I’m counting on the coaches and players to pull through and we’ll see fewer Packers in the Pro Bowl.

According to PFF,

If you go by PFF, GB has the highest rated RG in the NFC, the #2 Center, and the #3 RT. So at least those 3 actually deserve their spots. Clifton should not be there, though.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 23, 2011 1:41 AM CST up reply actions

How does Tyron compare to their RT

as far as the PFF grade? Just curious….I’d like to know where he ranks. I don’t have a PFF membership.

by Pharm.D. on Dec 23, 2011 8:13 AM CST up reply actions

He is currently the top rated RT

In the past 2 weeks, he has risen and Bulaga has fallen. Before that, Bulaga was the top RT.

Their other guard is also ranked pretty decently, particularly in pass protection. So 4 out of 5 arguably deserve to be there.

Smith should definitely be there too, though. I think giving up 7 sacks has hurt him some.

Lee's been an homerun this season & the skys the limit for this kid. i just Carter follows his steps.

we all know Ware is the main reason this defense put fear in offenses but you can start to see QBs, Rbs staying out of Lee’s area. Lee sees things very early & is able to get himself in position like you expect from ILB.
i can’t imagine him 2, 3 or 4 years from now if he continues to improve like he has this season. guys a football player & glad we were able to draft him.

Every team has a great gameplan until they get Punched in the Mouth. Sean Lee is a welcomed addition at ILB & Kegabear's prediction about Spencer looks spot on so far.

by BigBad Joe on Dec 22, 2011 12:28 PM CST reply actions

Jordy has had a great season, but....

Aaron Rodgers would make anyone look great. Jordy is ranked 14th in the NFC in receptions (51), 7th in yards (986), but 2nd in TD (10). That being said, I agree with you….I can think of at least 5 other NFC WRs who are more deserving: Megatron, Roddy White, (gasp) Victor Cruz, Steve Smith. and Larry Fitzgerald. Jordy Nelson benefits from a lot of single coverage by teams’ 2nd-3rd CBs. Put Laurent Robinson on that team and I think you’d see even more production. Nelson even ranks ahead of Greg Jennings in yards (949) and TD (9), but Jennings has more receptions (67), so you could make the case that Jordy is the more deserving of the two (Jennings is 2nd in fan voting, Jordy is 5th). Both are excellent WRs, but you’re right, not deserving of Pro Bowl consideration because of the 5 WRs obviously ahead of them. I’d still take our WRs over GBs though.

Wins are the best medicine...the ultimate cure-all.

The Pro Bowl is the biggest joke of all of the major sports' All-Star Games.

At least in the MLB it means something, and in the NBA it is at least entertaining.

I think since guys back off so much from contact in order to protect each other, it takes away the biggest part of the game. They might as well play two-below. At least when it was in Hawaii, the players got a nice vacation out of it. The recognition the players get by being named to the team is about the only thing going for it. Why play an actual game? What’s the point? Just call it the All-Pro team and be done with it.

Why should Dallas players get respect from fans nationally?

If players are nit-picked apart by the local media, and fans by extension, then why should they get respect from fans around the league? The Dallas (area) media rarely give offensive players the credit they deserve. They don’t have to be homers, but they should recognize talent when it is there. Unless a player performs to near perfection, the recognition of talent is far outweighed by criticism of his minor flaws.

It’s been that way throughout the Cowboys’ history—especially at QB. In 1966 Don Meredith won the Bert Bell NFL Player of the Year award. That same year, not a single Dallas area sports writer voted for him in the NFL MVP balloting. Meredith finally got fed up with being booed by the fans in Cotton Bowl Stadium and retired. With Roger Staubach, much of the local media were calling for Danny White to replace him a couple of years before Staubach retired. Then, during Troy Aikmans last few years, they wanted him replaced when there was no one on the roster to replace hiim with.

Just remember, if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off. ~Author Unknown

No, he is RT.
Packers RT Bryan Bulaga (sprained knee) has been ruled out for Week 16.
More than likely, Bulaga won’t return before the playoffs. LG T.J. Lang is expected to fill-in at right tackle in Bulaga’s absence, sending Evan Dietrich-Smith to left guard. It’s a concern for Aaron Rodgers, who took four sacks in Sunday’s loss. Dec 21 – 2:21 PM

Their 1st rounder, Sherrod went in when he got injured and messed up his leg. He is on IR now. So they lost 2 RT’s in 1 game.

Fan voting - by FANS

Says it all. Give em all an NFL IQ test before they can vote. Probably not politically correct though.
In other news, Yahoo is reporting that the Cowboys are no longer America’s Team based on some obscure poll. It’s now the Packers. Forget that the Cowboys far outsell logo merchandise than any other team. It’s OK. I wanted to be The World’s Team anyway.

All-Star games are a complete waste of time.

20% of the players will back out anyhow. As far as who should play?…stats should determine that if you truly want to showcase the best at each position. That would make for a far better game and some people might even watch. Not just football, but every sport needs to rethink the way that it is done. A lot of snubs every year.

I won't be watching it.

Lackluster performances, and the way they schedule it now, if Green Bay is in the Super Bowl, they won’t even have enough players to field a team anyhow. It really doesn’t make sense to play it BEFORE the Super Bowl. I guess they want to make sure that you don’t get to see the players you voted for.
