As my first official post in btb I give you my thoughts on cowboys defence and rob ryans scheme. I don't know enough of x's and o's of football to make my statements bulletproof and that's why this post is like a big question mark that I hope some of you can answer.
First. I must say that I like Rob Ryan. He brings this defence lots of swagger and agressiveness that It has needed for some time now. But you also need to look things with more wider perspective. Is this defence as confusing as people like to say or tell?
For a while now I'v been wondering why don't we see more of unblocked rushers, mistake throws to defenders where they should have not been according to qb or other signs of confusion that this defense should make. From what I have read or heard the pre snap movement should be the confusing part of robs scheme. I understand why this would confuse qb doing hes pre snap read but what about the confusion after the snap? Is this scheme only meant to confuse who is coming to rush and who is dropping to coverage? For what I have seen many teams try to conseal their coverages and rushers, what is so special about robs scheme? What about the players. Is this lack of constant pressure and chaos in the backfield their fault? Is it possible that confusion is there but db's are not in the right places to capitalise on those opportunities? I'v seen too much quick passes completed without defender even near the catcher to not think something is wrong. Many generals and coaches say the plan is allways perfect until the soldiers/players come in play. Is this what we see here? As an example everyone said Ware should have a monster year because of the Robs scheme but can we really say this is a monster year for him. I must say it looks pretty normal year for marcus to me. So do we blame the d-line that it wont help him or the Anthony Spencer on the other end OR the defensive coordinator that maybe promised more than he could deliver?
I don't know if I make any sense now but I had to air it out a little. Because I think these are good questions to be asked when we think what this team needs to do to be better. I value your opinions on this matter because there are lots of holes in my knowledge upon Robs scheme and other stuff so feel free to educate me.
