Bill Barnwell on Garrett's Clock Management
I am still trying to figure out the clock management strategy there

I think the answer is in there. Garrett didn't trust his O line not to give up a
big play, so he let the clock run and had them line up to kick. He said he feared giving up a big play; he just didn’t throw the O line under the bus. If that’s not it, beats me.
They had two timeouts. Call one after Dez makes the catch, and take your time lining up the kick.
There is still no explanation as to the ‘icing’ timeout

Well, Garrett gave his thinking, but no one is accepting it as valid. He said he
did it so that his kicker wouldn’t be rushed. Well, really, he took it because JoeD and Boniol told him to take it.
You've got it exactly right, Fernie.
He trusted his rookie kicker from 49 more than he did his offensive line not to screw up again.
It doesn't work though, rr.
Doesnt this line have to block for a low-trajectory 49 yd FG? Was he not concerned that his OLine might allow middle pressure to block the kick?
We took 20 seconds spiking the ball instead of taking the TO, then the FG unit wasn’t prepared? Who is that on?
Jason is throwing his team under the bus by saying that. Why doesnt he just take responsibility publicly, whether he feels responsible or not? At least then the team knows he has their back in public.

Garrett makes these type of misteaks all the time.
Why do people act like this is the first time? I can promise you all Garrett will continue this patern of screwing up and one day he will get fired. At the end of this season or 2 years from now. He does not have what it takes.
Why tell it like it is?
People here don’t want to hear about Garrett’s shortcomings.
I mean, if you go back to when he first became OC, to now, one thing is constant- he’s not gonna change.
Even if Demarco Murray is in the backfield.
Garrett has never shown himself good at clock management.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
He did almost exactly the same thing last year
Against New Orleans. Rather than go for it on 4th and 10 from the Saints 41, with 30 seconds and two timeouts, he decided to try a 60-yard field goal. That’s just insane. Your odds of converting fourth and ten are 10 times higher than making a field goal that long. It really showed his aversion to accepting blame. He would rather risk losing a game on an impossible kick than take responsibility for failing to convert a fourth-and-long. If the kick’s no good, he can say, “the kicker didn’t execute”. If he fails on fourth down, he has to answer questions about his play calling. Garrett is just too green and insecure to be a good NFL head coach.
aawwww hell wit hit .. we lost the game......
so everything else is just spinning our wheels lol …..
woman !, don't try to understand em, don't try to make them understand you, for they are a breed apart ! lol

Id say RIP Al Davis, but i know your up there drunker than a monkey and clocking angels in the 40 yd dash.
The "icing the kicker" argument
has to be one of the dumbest I’ve seen on this site. I agree that Bailey seeing one kick go through and then having to take another very well may have affected him. But its ridiculous to blame your coach for this, Garrett clearly never meant for that to happen. That aside…
I’m actually unsure now Garrett made the wrong move. AZ was shutting us down time and time again in that area of the field. And we all know our line isn’t reliable. I agree with Garrett – I don’t trust them at all not to move before the snap. I can see his argument – stuff never goes right in this stadium, so get in fg range, make it, and get out having stolen another win.
I think our fans are going way over the top in criticism of him for that move. There was an obvious potential down side had he been more aggressive as well.
When you don’t beat teams convincingly, you are going to lose in fluky ways. The Redskins, Dolphins and 49ers were as mad at their coaches as we are now for those close games we won. The reality is that in a close game, any one decision gets magnified to the point that the fanbase loses perspective. Garrett didn’t cost us this game. The Oline is the reason our offense only managed 13 points. Defensively they ripped us in the second half (and the OT drive was disgraceful). The Cards put up 19 points on us in 11 possesions without the help of turnovers or ST, which is not a good day. On ST, we had some really pointless penalties that could have totally changed the game in our favor. This team may win the NFC East, but its far from the best football has to offer.
When you don’t beat teams convincingly, you are going to lose in fluky ways.
This is true.
And when your coach doesn’t call a timeout when he should, and calls a timeout when he shouldn’t, that increases the probabillity of fluky stuff happening

Dude what kind of leader is this Garrett
That he would say. The reason he screwed up was he didnt trust his team. Jason Garrett loves him some Jason Garrett. It is becoming clear that he is a bad OC and he will never take responsibility for his actions. Who would want a coach like this guy? Who would put it on the line. You dont think Rob Ryan cant see this, he is so out of Dallas.
