(Arbitrary) Efficiency Scores for Mock Draft Challenge #2

First off, a hearty thanks for OCC and cwbys for the Mock Draft challenges. They've been a blast...

To score mock drafts I've added up the points each player was worth according to the ranking and draft trade value chart used for Mock Draft Challenge #2. To reward GM's who met a need I've added "need points" as well.

Need points will be awarded as follows:

1. Major need that must be met this year in draft or FA (e.g. S, RG, RT, DE) [100 points]

2. Projected future need (i.e. next years major need, e.g. CB, NT, OLB, ILB, LG, C) [50 points]

3. Complimentary player (i.e. not a starter, e.g 3rd WR, 3rd CB, 2nd RB, Kick returner, FB, Kicker, Backup) [10 points]

Need points will be divided by the round the player was picked in. This accounts for the fact that picking a S in the 7th round is much less likely to fill the need than in the 1st round.

Because it's alot of work to score mock drafts I'm going to skip any draft with a "stealth" trade down (i.e. one pick traded up, another pick traded down in the same trade). For GM's who posted multiple drafts I've only scored your first entry.

Here are the scores (in descending order):

2384 for AustonianAggie :: (9th is 1350 + DE is 100/1) + (37th is 530 + DE is 100/2) + (72nd is 230 + ILB is 50/3) + (111th is 72 + RG is 100/4) + (209th is 8.8 + 3rd WR is 10/7)

FAQ:

1. Who asked you to do this? No-one, I just enjoy looking at drafts and comparing them. The results can be surprising.

2. Why isn't my draft the best I picked player XXX and they were undervalued? Because we're using the NFP ratings and you probably used a pick worth a-lot of points (on the trade chart) to pick a player who wasn't worth many points. e.g. The 40th pick in the 2nd round was worth 500 points. e.g. Did you pick a player ranked 60th overall? That player (Marcus Cannon) met a major need but was only be worth 300 points.

3. What gave the top drafts their high score (for efficiency)? The top 3 drafts (AustonianAggie, 88Deztined46, and OCC) all used their 1st and 2nd round picks on players ranked very highly. They all traded up in the 2nd round to get a player of need. This marriage of need and value caused their drafts to score better than the rest (mine included).
