The Patrick Peterson Factor

The Being away from BTB for awhile, I did not want to get specific with any player or any issue regarding the team during my absence, understandably because there is much work to do to bring the Cowboys up to contention for the Lombardi Trophy.

But now, the draft is soon coming upon us, so specific we must get. There are two factors in my opinion for fans to ponder regarding the Dallas Cowboys- questions about the team's decisionmaking and questions about what potential players the team should draft in respect to what position the team needs to address.

At the forefront as far as questions regarding the team decisionmaking from leadership?

1. Can Garrett get the Job done as HC?

2. Will Rob Ryan take the defense to the level we need to see perform at, or hope to perform at?

3. Can Special Teams improve?

But the questions about the team are not what I wrote this fanpost to be about, since, as I mentioned, the draft will be upon us shortly.

This fanpost is about what potential players the team should draft in respect to what position the team needs to address.

When I last posted months ago, I left and saw Chiacrack delve into the issues of player evaluations, and I see he has done a great job, since I read a lot of his material even though I haven't posted. And although we didn't agree on all player issues (Jason Williams, Tashard Choice, and others), I consider him my friend and value his info.

So for months, I wanted to take an overall look at the teams direction in regards to decisionmaking, and needs, and this is my short list regarding positional weaknesses:

1. OL

2. Safety

3. CB

This is no secret, and many fans agree.

But here is where the "Jerry's Shiny New Toy Theory" that I talked about and became popular as a topic many moons ago overrides any belief in team weakness you or I may have, and it takes over.

And that is why, looking at it from afar, I believe the Patrick Peterson factor is real. He is the one player the Cowboys may move up to get if he isn't taken within the first 5 picks (which he probably will). But what if he doesn't?

I mean, we seem to think we know what the teams in front of us will do, but we don't really know for sure. This is the "Jerry's Shiny New Toy Theory" at work, and there is always one of these type of players in every draft for Jerry to covet. So the real question is: What is Jerry gonna do? Of course this is the question- because it always is.

But looking past all that, I wanted to put together this poll to get a good vibe of what the fans think and want, even though Jerry's tendencies may trump all that as he takes us on another rollercoaster ride through the draft (just kidding!)
