With the #9 pick in the 2011 the Dallas Cowboys select...
What athleticism! What upside! What horseplop! Tire-iron Smith will be a complete bust. Why get a player with proven ability when you can get one with perceived future ability? That's Jerry Jones' motto.
Ugghh!
ALEX BARRON
Offensive Tackle
Florida State
Senior
6'6 | 308 | 4.83
HOME TOWN: Orangeburg, SC
HIGH SCHOOL: Wilkinson
QUICK STRENGTHS: Height, athleticism, footwork
QUICK WEAKNESSES: consistency, bulk, strength
NFL COMPARISONS: Lighter, but athletic tackle who can play the left side similar to Seattle's Walter Jones.
A highly touted recruit, Barron played sparringly his first two seasons with the Seminoles, only making five starts in two years. However, he earned the starting job as a junior and turned in an outstanding season making 1st team All-ACC. As a senior he again made first team all conference.
Barron has been a dominant player at times. He has good height and long arms. He is built to play the left side. He shows good ability in pass protection. He has good athleticism for a man his size. He sets up quickly, gets a nice base beneath him and uses his hands well. He has good enough strength to handle bull rushers and the feet to not give up the edge to speed rushers. What he needs to improve on is picking up stunts and blitzes. He is a bit slow to find extra rushers and needs to display better awareness. In the run game, Barron is up and down. He tends to play to high and lacks the bulk and strength to be a tackle teams run behind in the NFL. He is capable of moving defenders when he plays with proper leverage though, but he will need to put in time in the weight room to improve in this area. He could also turn up the intensity a notch or two at times and finish blocks with more authority.
Barron has a chance to be one of the better tackles in the NFL, but he needs to pick up the consistency and add more strength. He has the athleticism teams look for and as a result, he is a 1st Round lock, however, he could go anywhere from the top 10 to the early 20's.
Sound familiar?
JJ Watt will be a solid pro-bowl level d-lineman for the next 10 years. Tire-iron will be eatin' cheetos while on break at Pep Boys within 4 years.

I take it you really like this pick then?
Tell us how you really feel, quit beating around the bush
We live life forwards and understand it backwards
....
there are tabs at the top that you can switch “format” one saying quote one saying link both would apply to this post
If JJ Watt could keep Tony Romo upright he'd have been given stronger consideration.
We needed a Tackle, we got a Tackle. Now all the people who say we never take tackles in the first Rd can shut it.
"The tone is business," Garrett said. "Let's get to work. The Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands on Sunday at 4:15. They're an awfully good football team. We have to get ready for them."
Not the same player
The only similarities really is that both are athletic. Tyron appears to have more foot speed and lateral agility, while Barron had more explosion (he had a 38" verticle, HOLY CRIPES)
Tyron is much stronger (and will continue to get stronger) and does not have the same concerns regarding bull rushers and run blocking. It doesnt matter how explosive you are as a lineman if you don’t have strength and technique. Tyron is raw but appears to be technically sound… the comparison IMO is unfair.
Time will tell with how Tyrons career plays out, but I am guessing even his floor is at least higher than what Alex Barron achieved.
On a side note, maybe Barron shoulda tried out for tight end….
Also,
and this is the really big difference. Tyron is the kind of player who is first to enter and last to leave. He’s a gym rat and will do everything he can to be the best. Alex Barron had all the tools to succeed. It was his lack of desire to improve that stopped him
Now broadcasted in over 20 languages on over 15 continents.
we will see what happens
for every bad example you bring up there is a good example to counter. i wont even take the time to research it.
We shall see.
If you hoped that was the case you wouldn’t rush to judgement less then 24 hours after he gets picked… just sayin
Semper Fi Do or Die
Good for you, I kinda like mine grilled, but to each their own
The beauty is the wrong whine helps it go down easier.
Hahaha nice.
