I just had to make a post including four guys that I know are still out there and officially are now UDFAs. We can't sign anyone as a UDFA until the labor issues are sorted out or the lockout is lifted again, since it has not been stayed by the 8th court of appeals. Anyway, onto the players that I liked heading into the draft that I am shocked are still on the board. 3 of them I think would make a great fit here in Dallas but the fourth is still surprising.
Deunta Williams, FS, UNC - I was sitting here watching the entire draft and I was waiting for his name to be called. However it never came up. Not for Dallas and not for any other team in the draft. On his draft profile on NFL.com you will find that it reads "Williams has a chance to sneak into the second round if he runs really well". His broken leg has dropped him all the way from the second round to being an undrafted free agent. A converted wide receiver, he stands 6' 2" and 10 inch hands. We don't know the measurables because he could not participate in the combine because of his broken leg from the bowl game. Read his NFL.com profile and I think you will like what you read. He recorded 12 interceptions in his career (2007 - 3, 2008 - 3, 2009 - 6, 2010 - 0). We all know they started throwing away from him AND that he was suspended the first four weeks along with like 5 other players on the Tar Heels.
Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College - I know he overcame cancer and isn't quite what he used to be, but he was a top 15 player before he was diagnosed. I fully expect that he will be able to come back from that and be able to be a great player. He is good in pass coverage too, which is what you would want from a 3-4 inside backer, which is most likely what he would play. He is a great locker room guy as well.
Kendric Burney, CB, UNC - This guy is just really small with not much of a vertical, so that is why I think he slid, but he is a playmaker too. He had 5 picks as a Junior which earned him all-acc honors for that season. I would just question him not having too much height to him (including jumping) but everything else I like about this kid. All of that and he still graded as a 6.3 on NFL.com? Mike Mayock was pretty high on this guy being a late round sleeper. Surprising he went undrafted.
Deandre McDaniel, S, Clemson - This is the only one I wasn't too high on, but still surprised that he went undrafted. I don't know how many mock drafts I read this off-season but quite a few of them had this guy going to us in like the 2nd or 3rd round. I guess the off the field stuff was more than most people wanted to deal with, however he is one of the best safeties in this draft class. He is very physical and likes to come down and play in the box and play in zone coverage.
