How They Would Fit: The DVD edition

So far in my ongoing series, I have looked at mostly players that have a first round grade, from a possible A-Team, to a possible second coming of Jay Ratliff. Now for this installment I want to look at a player that OCC and the ODS has clued me into...Demarcus Van Dyke (DVD). He doesn't have a "first round grade" on him, however I think Dallas could take him as early as the 4th round, for one aspect that I will be showing later. But first...

Disclaimer: This series is looking at specific players and how they would fit into the Dallas roster using the current roster as a baseline.  Any opinions expressed are my opinions only and do not reflect the opinions of the Dallas Cowboys, SB Nation or their affiliates. :end Disclaimer.

Now with that out of the way... Here is DVD's Profile via ProScout:

20 Yrd Dash: 2.50
10 Yrd Dash: 1.47

20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.09

4.36/4.47/4.57 40 range before Combine

As I said it was OCC and the ODS that clued me into this kid. However I have not watched any videos, so if anyone knows anything else about him, feel free to let me know. But before you go crucifying  me about how DVD "sucks" and would be a lousy fit here in Dallas I just want to point out something. 4.25 secs. That is how fast DVD ran the 40. That is pure speed. The only player that would be faster on Dallas' roster may be Teddy Williams, the WR turned CB turned WR project from last year. Now I don't have his draft profile (he was a "find" by the Cowboys) so I will have to compare him to the last CB that Dallas took in the 5th round, Orlando Scandrick. Here is his draft profile:

Name: *Orlando Scandrick
College: Boise State     Number: 8
Height: 5-10   Weight: 192
Position: CB  Pos2: KR/ST
Class/Draft Year: Jr/2008
40 Time: 4.32      40 Low: 4.26   40 High: 4.43
Projected Round: 4  Stock:
Rated number 16 out of 236 CB's     131 / 2504 TOTAL
Combine Invite: Yes
Height: 5100
Weight: 192
40 Yrd Dash: 4.32
20 Yrd Dash: 2.49
10 Yrd Dash: 1.46
225 Lb. Bench Reps:
Vertical Jump: 38 1/2(PD)
Broad Jump: 10'05"
20 Yrd Shuttle:
3-Cone Drill: 6.83
No bench or shuttles/thumb

Now I admit that this is not the "optimal" comparison, as Scandrick did neither the short shuttle nor the bench press, however they both did the 3-cone drill, with both having sub 7 sec times on it. Now, are they great times? No, considering, that Peterson (the best CB prospect in the draft) put up a 6.58 in the 3-cone. However at >7 sec they are "serviceable" .

So where would DVD fit on the Dallas roster? Well frankly that would be up to him, though I could see him gaining some strength (a necessity regardless) and taking over Alan Ball's spot as the Back up CB/FS, which would mean that Ball could be let go (Yeah!) which means that DVD and Teddy would be the #4/#5 CB's, especially if Newman is let go (or moved to FS), which would promote both Scandrick (to #2) and McCann (to #3). Notice that I didn't list AOA as a CB. I am confident that he will become a SS/FS hybrid, that will only play CB in case of injury.

Now the main issue with DVD would be his strength, I am not sure if the bench is accurate (5 reps!?), but seeing as DVD is "only" 176 lbs coming out of college (For reference I am a skinny person and I weighed 170 in HIGH SCHOOL! and still am [relatively] skinny at ~200lbs) I could see that being accurate. So where does DVD Fall? I could see him being a 4th rounder (I am sure the Raiders would draft him in the Second though, haha) I could also see him as a UDFA.

As I said earlier I haven't seen any film on DVD, so if you guys have, link me up and I will post it In this (giving you credit for the find obviously).... Again no poll, but feel free to comment and critique...
