We here at BTB tend to focus on the future. Which considering that Dallas went 6-10 last year is understandable. Nothing went right except for the fact that we had a top 10 Offense, but even that was tempered by JG "gameplanning" around the O-line. So This Past draft, We were hoping to see some help especially on the Defense, which boast no fewer than 6 FA's. Most of all We were hoping that Dallas would Replace Alan Ball who as the consensus will state is arguably the biggest reason why Dallas' defense was so horribly bad. So we were all kind of shocked went Dallas only drafted two defensive players. However I want to focus on a player that Dallas Drafted in 2010, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. After a shoulder injury dropped him in the Draft last year, Dallas picked him up in the 4th round.
Now the 2011 draft class pretty much sucked as far as safeties were concerned, really there were only 2-3 players that really stood out, other wise the rest of them just weren't very good. In fact after doing a little reseache I can cofidently state that AOA would have been possibly a 2nd round possibly a late first rounder had he been in this Draft. Don't believe me?Follow me after the jump...
Now first off lets look at the consensus top Safety in this year draft class Rahim Moore. Here are his stats per ProScouts.com:

| Combine Invite: Yes Height: 5116 Weight: 202 40 Yrd Dash: 4.58 20 Yrd Dash: 2.60 10 Yrd Dash: 1.56 |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 11 Vertical Jump: 35 Broad Jump: 09'07" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 3.96 3-Cone Drill: 6.98 4.45/4.50/4.57 40 range before Combine |
Dates: 03/29/11 Height: 5116 Weight: 202 40 Yrd Dash: 20 Yrd Dash: 10 Yrd Dash: |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 15 Vertical Jump: Broad Jump: 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.15 3-Cone Drill: |
Now Rahim went in the high 2nd (45th overall) so that was a little lower than alot of mocks had him going, though Pro Scouts had him solidly in the 2nd. Now the thing that stands out to me is that unreal SS time, 3.96. now he didn't do as good at his Proday, however a 4.15 is still decent for a safety. the other thing that stands out is his speed, 4.58 is very good as a FS, so I will say that Rahim Moore will probably a very good player in the league....
However Dallas already has a player similar to Moore, "the Ansah":

| Combine Invite: Yes Height: 6002 Weight: 207 40 Yrd Dash: 4.32 20 Yrd Dash: 2.51 10 Yrd Dash: 1.53 |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: Vertical Jump: 35 1/2 Broad Jump: 10'00" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.32 3-Cone Drill: 6.84 No bench, shoulder - 40 Time Range: 4.32-4.53 |
Dates: 03/12/10 Height: 6002 Weight: 207 40 Yrd Dash: 4.33 20 Yrd Dash: 2.53 10 Yrd Dash: 1.48 |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 21 Vertical Jump: Broad Jump: 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.19 3-Cone Drill: |
Now lets break down the Differances:
Speed- AOA is the Clear winner here, registering a 4.32 vs a 4.58 for Moore. In fact AOA is as fast as Patrick Peterson who went #5 overall this past draft.
Strength- AOA again putting up 21 reps vs 15(proday) for Moore.
Explosion- Again AOA outperform Moore, though Moore definately is still pretty explosive with AOA putting up only 1/2 in higher vertical though does do 5 inches more in the broad jump
Agility-NOw at the Combine Moore put up a sub 4 sec SS time with AOA putting up a 4.32, however the gap definately was decreased at their respective Prodays with AOA putting up a 4.19 with Moore putting up a 4.15, though that was somewhat predicted by their 3-cone drills(6.98for Moore and 6.84 for AOA.), so I think We can call it a wash either way.
Now the biggest knock on AOA was the fact that he played at a Div-II school, so I doubt he would have been ranked as high as Moore who played at UCLA...However as A FS, AOA is every bit the athlete that Moore is and in fact compares favorably with Several CB's from the current Class. in fact I would go so far as to say he could have been ranked in the Top 10, just missing out on the Top 5 due his school. LEts look at him vs the Current Draft Class of CB's:
Here is Brandon Harris rated #5 by Pro Scouts:

| Combine Invite: Yes Height: 5094 Weight: 191 40 Yrd Dash: 4.46 20 Yrd Dash: 2.50 10 Yrd Dash: 1.53 |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 13 Vertical Jump: 35 1/2 Broad Jump: 09'05" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.12 3-Cone Drill: 6.77 5-10, 4.40/4.45/4.53 40 range before Combine |
Dates: 03/10/11 03/25/11 Height: 5094 Weight: 191 40 Yrd Dash: 20 Yrd Dash: 10 Yrd Dash: |
225 Lb. Bench Reps: Vertical Jump: 34 1/2 Broad Jump: 20 Yrd Shuttle: 3-Cone Drill: |
As you can See AOA compare fairly well with Harris.
Now the Major thing is AOA basically a Rookie this year as he didn't see the field much last year due to injuries. So Hopefully Dallas can find a decent Player that can play along side of him, because AOA will be a very good player for Dallas.
