9 for 9
Would you trade Tony Romo for Carson Palmer straight up?
I have a friend who is a big-time Romo hater. "Romo sucks. Romo wasn't drafted for a reason. Romo doesn't have it. Romo will never get us there." Don't bring up Tony Romo around him is alls I'm sayin.
Carson Palmer is demanding a trade or his release. So I asked my friend if he'd trade Romo for Palmer. "In a heartbeat" was his reply.
I've always liked Palmer. He reminds me of Aikman in many ways. So I decided to compare his last 3 complete seasons to Romo's. Here's how the numbers averaged out:
| Yards | Completion % | TD's | Int.'s | Rating | |
| Tony Romo | 4047 | 62.9 | 29 | 14 | 95.46 |
| Carson Palmer | 3731 | 62.4 | 24 | 17 | 84.23 |
Even though I'm a Romo guy, I was surprised at how lopsided the comparo was... especially the Passer Rating. An 11 point difference is huge.
Who would you swap Romo for if you could do it one for one straight up? How much extra would Cincy need to pitch in to make you consider a Romo-Palmer trade?

I don’t like that passer rating is used as the ultimate measure of a QB, as there are all sorts of flaws in the equation. That said, there’s really little doubt that Romo is better than Palmer. I’ll take 2006 Carson Palmer over Romo as your friend says :in a heartbeat," but 2012 Carson Palmer? Eh… Emphatic “no thanks.”

Passer Rating Flaws
People keep talking about flawed the passer rating statistic is. I know it takes things like completions, yards, TD’s, and INT’s into account, but I honestly have no idea how it’s calculated. Could someone explain it, and maybe why it’s considered to be so “flawed?”

Really? Joke right?
Palmer?
Rodgers is the only guy I’d trade Romo for. Brady and Manning are out because of Age
Tony Romo 2011's League's Most Valuable Player
Missing a few
Philip Rivers? Drew Brees? Roethlisberger? Matt Ryan? Sam Bradford? All of those have to be in consideration. I love Romo, but lets not go overboard on how irreplaceable he is. I’m pretty sure none of the teams of the above players would trade them for Romo, so that tells you something.
In my opinion, the only relevant Romo trade question is whether you’d trade Romo for Andrew Luck?

Brees or Ryan
But truly, AR is the only QB I would trade. Wouldn’t be happy about it, though.
To this day I have no idea what that woman was singing about. Like, literally no idea. I don’t know what a hollaback girl is. But I have to imagine it is a foul, disease ridden thing that wears too much make-up just to cover up the fact that it is a forty-seven year-old fish dog. – Family guy

No way, I'd trade Romo for Palmer.
Romo is a mobile play maker and with a better OL he’ll be back in the top 5 QB’s in the league. Palmer is inconsistent and not very mobile. He honestly reminds me a lot of Drew Bledsoe, a seviceable QB, but from the old school and you need some mobility to play in today’s NFL. That’s also why I,m not a huge an of Mallett.
The O is being built around Romo and his strengths...
To trade for Palmer would be akin to switching horses midstream. No thanks….
Besides, Romo is the better competitor, aong with being more mobile.
Now we just have to figure out
how to get your friend and Terry in the same room together…
So pardon my disposition; why should I listen to a system that never listened to me?

People who don't see Romo's talent are pretty much haters or blind.
Because last time I checked there’s plenty of QB’s that get praise though they won nothing. Which winning isn’t even a measuring stick. That’s a team thing. Romo’s stats by himself are fine. Okay people say his 95 passer rating is flawed. Okay well look at his other numbers. 5.7 TD% and 3.0 INT%. He complete 64% of his passes. And he has a win % above .600. I don’t see what people don’t like about him. I’m pretty much ready to stop defending him because it’s not worth it. I just keep wasting my time.
The only thing better than an Anderson is a Granderson.

darn
i thought this was a spinoff to my 10 for 10 contest.
There’s no considering a Palmer for Romo trade, unless it happened before this last draft, including a 2011 and 2012 first round pick plus other compensation.
Romo doesn’t get traded for anyone except Aaron Rodgers at this point. Not saying Romo is the #2 quarterback, but wear and tear on the individual make a huge difference. Romo has the most mileage left of any over 30 QB.

Tell your friend...
that Palmer just sold his home in Cincy
And that I would likely get a burst cerebral aneurysm as a result of such a trade, or worse…

So many things wrong with this
Above all we are in a lock out that doesn’t look like it will lift anytime soon. So say such an unintelligent trade were to be executed, it would have to wait until the lockout were lifted. The longer the lockout, the less chemistry Palmer and Romo would have with their new teams. Not to mention we are already at risk for misques on D with a new coordinator, this would risk us being unstable on both sides of the ball. Just an awful idea. I would say Romos job is the safest on the team. I’m sick of the nay sayers that talk of trading him.

Palmer can replace Kitna in 2012
that might be about right

Nope, not Palmer.
He’s probably the most overrated QB out there. Hypothetically, who would I trade Tony straight up for? Manning or Brady, no question. The age differential isn’t great enough to outweigh the talent differential. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tony, but those are two of the greatest QB’s ever, and they still have good years left.
Besides those two, I can only think of one other guy I would trade Tony for right now. Phillip Rivers.

Bottom line
Palmer is only half a year older (I believe) but has MUCH more wear and tear due to his longer NFL career. Romo is one of the “youngest” 30 year olds in the NFL. I also don’t think he has the intangibles that Romo does. He never managed to become a leader for the Bengals, never managed to resolve his issues with Ocho, and is now threatening to retire if he doesn’t get traded! Does that sound like “The Right Kind of Guy?”
Also, if you look at Palmer’s career stats, he isn’t even close to what Romo has done during his career. Sure, the teams make a difference, but remember the ‘Boys weren’t great before Romo took over. He helped the team make the playoffs, in fact, more times than Palmer has gotten the Bengals to the post season in more seasons, AND Romo has won more playoff games – yes, 1 is more than Palmer’s 0.
Frankly, Palmer always seemed like a whinny b… to me. We can blame the team he was on, but I don’t think he ever took that team on his shoulders like a #1 pick should and he doesn’t seem to have the fight or the mental fortitude I want in a starting QB.

of course no
palmer is on decline, i saw games last season when his decisions were the ones of a rookie, he played with fear, insecure, his arm seems not to be good, to be honest i think he’s making a favor to the bengals, he’s turning into a jake delhomme
No
Today’s Palmer reminds me so much of the stone footed Bledsoe.
Arnold, almost 5 years of good memories, you'll be missed.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Bledsoe played better in 2005
then Palmer has in years.
Bledsoe in 2006…that may be an apt comparison.
romo all the way
I wouldn’t trade romo for anyone short of rogers, and then brees maybe. He is improving every yr, and with protection he ll put up huge numbers again. 2007 type numbers. Now if only Roy would show up like he did at the start of last season for the whole year, miles was putting in huge numbers the first couple games. Then dez, oh man. I think the only one we can count on is witten though. I hope garrett comes down hard on that wr core, especially since their coach was let go for some reason. I think those guys were the reason. A little long, but I think if dez and miles show up like witten, with a decent line and running game, then romo could be the best.
BOOM!

Romo's passer rating is not irrelevant or overblown
It’s high for several reasons, especially for his nearly 8.1 yards per attempt – which ranks him 4th all-time (behind only Grandpa’s favorite QBs Otto Graham, Sid Luckman and Norm Van Brocklin) and even slightly ahead of Roethlisberger and Phillip Rivers. By way of comparison, Palmer’s career YPA is a more pedestrian 7.1, with a single season high of 7.8 – and it’s not like Palmer didn’t have anything to work with, as Ocho Cinco, TJ Housh and even TO were all on the receiving end of his passes. Btw, Palmer is 0-2 in the playoffs. To conclude, Palmer was very good at one point and will probably end up as the Bengals 3rd best franchise QB behind Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason, but you’d have to be an utter fool to trade Romo for him.
GREG COOK
Greg Cook was the Bengals " fourth best " franchise QB was the most talented of all the Bengals QBs. Had all the passing skills of John Elway or Dan Marino This is not any sort of exaggeration either . This guy had true HOF talent.
He hurt his shoulder before they had the operations they have today.
He had all the talent Aaron Rodgers has and perhaps then some.
OJ Simpson was only the second most talented player in the in the 1969 draft

Palmer was special (or or close to it ) before his injury
Before the knee injury he was more special than Romo , but now Romo is better. It is not even that close

I'd trade Romo
but not to Cinci. I’d trade Romo only for Dick Labeau and the entire Pitts D because then we could just sign an overweight QB to win a SB.
Because no QB (Not Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers) is winning the SB with the Defense that was on the field for the Cowboys last year.
Since that is not happening…I’ll stick with Romo. I think we have bigger problems on the team. Romo is not one of them.
I’ll just hope Rob Ryan can get this D to play at an elite level.
