What is reality? Is it yours? Is it mine? Reality is exactly what one perceives it to be. I read on these blogs about how bad economic times are, but I personally am making more money than I ever have. Am I supposed to say that economic times are hard for me and my family. Well they are because we do live from check to check, but we live well, at least as well as any middleclass family is supposed to. Now then to the reality of the Owners versus the players.
The reality is all the owners are extremely wealthy people. They have enormous wealth, stadiums that are usually half paid for by cities, i.e, taxpayers. They have private jets, mansions to live in, and they will always be wealthy. That is their reality, and it is not yours or mine. The players reality is they play a game called football. They have been playing it for all their lives. In most cases people wanted that talent they possessed so bad they were willing to allow alot of those players to grow up stupid and illiterate. Yes when they got to the pros they were paid an enormous amount of money, which they immediately spent on their poor families who had made sacrifices over the years. ( Not Reggie Bush's Family) Most have no concept of how to save or use that money. Some are just simply taken advantage of. ( Fred Taylor ) Some cannot read on the 3rd grade level and when their careers are over so are they. We all hear about the ex-player that is broke after earning millions while playing the game. Let's face it mostly QBs leave the game financially set for many generations to come. I don't bleed for any of these folks, but I do think that many of the bloggers on here are simply jealous of what they can't do and what they don't have. In a movie called Rosewood, there are some cracker whites sitting on a porch sipping liquor talking about this black fellow who lives in Rosewood. These whites are a bunch of bums who didn't and don't apply themsleves and one states, Hell that nigger has got a piano,I ain't got no piano. They untimately raze that black community and kill as many of the blacks that were simply trying to live their lives out in peace. My point here is jealousy is a bad thing to base one's opinion on and it seems to me that average folks/fans see the money the players get and are jealous of (1) the talent, and (2) the money. The truth is life is about sacrifices for most of us and those players sacrifice their bodies and minds ( concussions, ACL, etc ) and they do it for our entertainment. The owners sit in a private luxury box and watch the struggle of the masses, players, fans, vendors, etc. They want us to keep coming to the game, they want the players to keep entertaining you and me. Both sides squeal too much, but in the long run the owners will always survive, while the players will come and go and when they aren't useful to the fan, the owners, etc, they will be cut and they will go away, left to their bodies that we had so much fun watching get destroyed. One can say that the players are paid handsomely and that whatever happens after the game is over for them is not our affairs, but I say that is BS and it simply reveals how shallow the fans are. We all remember the great ones, but for every great one there are hundreds of 3 to 4 year career guys who suffer an injury, have lesser talent and they are left to whatever happens to them. Again I don't necessarily bleed for anyone or any group, but it is time to discuss what reality we are actually talking about and how that reality feels to each party of this struggle. When we read about the court struggles of the two parties, it amazes me the folks who repeatedly curse the players position while upholding the owners as a group of people who are getting raped by the players. It is like poor folks voting Republican, voting for folks who live off the struggles of the masses. I know some will say this is socialistic and communistic in nature, but I think it is the reality of the masses/fans. Many complain about the prices of going to a game and say the players salaries are too high and that is why they can't go to games anymore. The TV contracts take care of those player salaries by far, not the owners money and not the gate receipts. I care about the game because I enjoy the game, but I am under no illusion that the game cares about me or my struggles. The owners care about their income and growing their wealth and along the way getting a championship in a sport that they can sit around with people in their circle and brag about. The players are just like the fan, they play to make money, the same exact reason we all work for a living. Yeah it is nice to raise that Lombardi trophy over the players head, but the trophy stays with the owners/teams, not the players. They get a ring and a finger that is crippled,a limp to walk with, bone on bone to live in pain with. That folks is the reality of the game we all love and all the rhetoric in the world by either party doesn't change that reality.
