Roy Williams signs on somewhere "Different"
NOTE: SINCE WRITING THIS JASON LACANFORA REPORTS THAT THE BEARS HAVE COME TO TERMS WITH A DEAL FOR ROY WILLIAMS.
There is a very funny thing about "Different" that blinds us. I understand that that sentence seems weird but follow me. Think about that girlfriend. Ya know... "THAT" girlfriend. Was probably your longest relationship at the time, nice set of "fill in the blanks" but she couldn't be trusted or there was just something terribly wrong. Not sure how it ended but you wonder how in the world she was able to get into another relationship so fast. How the hell could that guy not see it!!! Or that girl that was just a little bit crazy... ya know... "in a cute, also mysterious way". Who ended up being just a little bit crazy.... ya know... "in a cute, unsolved mysteries way". How did you not see that, how did you get caught in that web of insanity. It's not your fault, blame it on "Different". You believed that she may be crazy around other people but with you things are Different. However Different causes you to lose all sight of logic.
Now I sit here in the Chicago area and hear all of these radio stations gushing over the possibility of having Roy Williams on the Bears. The chance to "Finally have a number one receiver" on their squad. As I hear about Roy Williams "Past connections with Mike Martz" their offensive coordinator, and how he'll be able to get him "to the next level", I start to think, "What's wrong with these people haven't they been watching football?"
Flash back to 2008 with me, the rumor drops that Roy Williams is headed to Dallas, and he's bring his 17 receptions and 238 yards OVER 5 GAMES with him. All we had to give up for him is..... "Who Cares!?!?!? We're getting Roy Frickin' Williams." Two Number one receivers on the same team, this is unprecedented. We'll now have a second guy who can easily get 1000 yards receiving (did it once) or hundred receptions (did it "nonce"). When people brought up his struggles in Detroit naturally in our arrogance we said, "Well of course, that's Detroit, this is Different." Did anybody notice the lack of public outcry in Detroit when they lost(?) this "Game-Changing Superstar".
Now I'm here in Chicago listening to these guys describe a player that I've apparantly never seen. And when a caller talked about this "talented" wide receiver's recent failures I wasn't surprised to here, "C'mon man, we're talking about Dallas. Those guys put the "D" in Dysfunctional". And as the hosts laughed and laughed, and retold story after story about why Dallas is so Dysfunctionally Different I couldn't help but smile as I looked forward to the next city that Roy decides to "bless" with hopes of a superstar that just may be an average receiver with one good season.
And when he lets that team down, as he most absosuredly will. Don't blame it on Roy.... Blame it on Different

Roy Williams is a good WR
and one day he will make some team very happy that they took a chance on him…..
Here’s a theoretical play from last year: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

I'm not stating that he is no good.
I’m stating that for some reason probably due to his stellar 2006 season people that sign him are expecting a “Star” and he just isn’t that guy. So naturally when he doesn’t meet expectations everyone is upset with him, and angry they overpaid or overhyped.
Anyone else wondering why Romo's talking to the media about the "Secret Practices"?

I wasn't trying to be argumentative BnSB...

If I'd paid attention to your sig. I would have understood that lol...
Some girls leave you with a broken heart, some with blissful memories and some leave you with herpes. The cowboys need to be careful which ones they mess with in the future.

Yeah
I think I have finally found the sig that will actually stay around…..I still chuckle at the Coty post…..and the last line does describe my fandom perfectly…..

RW could be a good addition to the Bears,
maybe being the definite #1 will fulfill his ego and focus him. More likely, though, he will end up causing his new team the same headaches he gave us.
Give me UR calls! Give me highstepping by CBs and PRs entering the endzone! Give me screaming on the sidelines and headbutting! Give me Fortitude, Solidarity and VIOLENCE! Bring me CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Is that what happened to Terry?

nope
Terry’s blind homerism extends only to Tony Romo….unlike mine which extends all the way up to the Owner…but does not include the GM..yet…

My argument is that this offense doesn't fit him
He did well when he was with the Lions, not great, but well. That system worked better for him. This offense is based very much on precise timing, and Roy just never seemed to get on the same beat with everyone until he finally started catching on last year, until Romo went down and then him and Kitna had apparently lost that chemistry they once had in his only pro-bowl season. It’s become very common for people to credit (or blame) schematics for success or failure of certain players.

Actually
I think know that Mike Martz offense is more about timing that our current offense. But All I hear is about how the Cowboys didn’t know what to do with Roy because “Well… They’re the cowboys… heheheh” ugh…

but some like 50 receptions 800 yards 7 TD
Lol.

roy williams is okay
It’s the fact Dallas force him to be something he is not…
Roy will go to Chicago and know his place and roll..may be he will play better there may be they will put him in postion to make plays..it just wasn’t happening here..
by lostar2009 on Jul 27, 2011 7:16 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
See but that's the problem. EVERYONE...
forces Roy to be something that he is not. The issue isn’t completely with Roy, maybe not even mostly with Roy. Chicago is looking for a NUMBER 1 receiver, not a middling receiver, not an average receiver, a NUMBER 1. And they believe that Roy could be that main focal point, as did Dallas, as did Detroit. That’s the issue.

roy has the potential.....
It probably was a confidence issue.. I remember hearing a comment from Roy w when he was release..
The guy said he would have release myself too.. u see that? no confidence.
Then you think about his marriage proposal through the mail video tape..Wtf?
Roy just isn’t a winner just a guy who is gifted.. bc a winner wants to succed they want to be number 1.. they have all the confidence and mojo to back it up..

Also a victim of other players' success
He came here into the Shadow of one Terrel Owens, who I don’t care if you like it or not, was a great receiver on the field. That much is apparent. It’s when the helmet came off you probably stopped liking him. Then Roy started off slow the next season, then got hurt (as he had never played a FULL SEASON) and Miles had a record breaking day, and then had great games the next two weeks. Williams was overshadowed again. I think it is more that Tony never really trusted him enough to look for him until last season. Then when he went down, Kitna and him had lost their supposed chemistry so he fell right back into the shadows. Poor guy, I know he loved being a Cowboy so good luck to him somewhere else. Sometimes you get dealt a bad hand…

That to me seems like an excuse to be honest.
Yes he came behind Owens but was supposed to be the heir apparant. SUPPOSEDLY we got rid of Owens to make room for Roy’s greatness. He then continued to play poorly that season before and after the injury. Miles was overshadowed, but when he got his chance he took it and never looked back. Same thing with T.O. in San Fran behind Jerry Rice, or Aaron Rodgers behind Favre. Williams had more than enough chances to turn things around but it seemed like every time he took a step forward he took a dropped pass back IMO

you can look at it that way all you want
The real problem is that they don’t have enough of a receiving core to even call it complete.
They just have 2 speedsters on the roster worth mentioning. Earl Bennett seems to round out #3 and small reliable Crayton like guy that they seem to bring in only on 3rd downs in Davis.
They don’t really have a possession type receiver. That might be against the Martz style offense, but they really have to rely more on Olsen.
RW wouldn’t bring the #1 stats and hopefully they wouldn’t give him money to do that. But he could be in the starting lineup, fill a need, score TDs. Bears don’t need him to be amazing because in a Martz offense, allowing Hester and Knox to run wild is scary enough (especially with Olsen and Forte).
I'm not sure what it is that I'm not being clear about.
I’m not really even sure what you’re responding to. I’m not saying they have a strong receiving core or anything else you mentioned. You’re saying he would be a possession guy and that
RW wouldn’t bring the #1 stats and hopefully they wouldn’t give him money to do that.
You’re actually proving my point. I agree with that statement HOWEVER the bears believe that in him they’ve found a guy who would bring NUMBER ONE STATS, and then when he doesn’t live up to potential he’s going to be blamed. I’m not sure what you’re disagreeing with.
Everyday I feel a little better about the way this team is being run.

agreed
Roy isn’t a number 1. Everybody in the league has talent and potential, Roy has been in the league for a long time now. He’s not gonna be changing any time soon. I don’t think Martz will want him either TBH. They were quick to move on from Roy when he was there
by somebodyquiet on Jul 27, 2011 1:33 PM CDT up reply actions
it's not jsut abpout number one receiver is about the typ of receiver who you are
he once was a number one according to his strenghts, maybe martz could make it work again
Roy suffered from high expectations
but he also dropped a lot of balls at the wrong time and those drive killers stay with me a lot more than any big plays he made.
I’m glad he’s gone if just for the psyche of this offense.
Never really saw him as a clutch guy

Roy should fit in with Chicago.
He will be the clear #1 guy there and that is what he wanted all along.
The Bears #1 is now Hester and in my opinion he is a great #3.
Okay #2 at best….
Go Cowboys.....Go White Sox.....
Bears have small speedy guys
They need that taller presence for jump balls and stuff. Roy is no Larry Fitzgerald or Dez Bryant when it comes to that but he can go up and get something in the end zone. Of course the Rams could also use this, so look for Plax and Mike Sims-Walker to be hot commodities for both teams as well.

Roy made a few comments following his release
he was appreciative of his opportunity to play for Dallas, saying, “just a chance to play with three of the best players I have ever seen in Jason Witten, Jay Ratliff and DeMarcus Ware.”
then went on to say he’s not washed up and, “My teammates know what I’m capable of.”
I found these comments to be fairly interesting, and seem to be pointed directly at Romo imo. I always enjoyed Roy’s interviews, mostly due to the fact that he’s completely dilusional, which I guess isn’t necessarily a bad quality for a WR. Hopefully this is the last “#1” WR we cut for a long time. Kind of weird that we’ve cut 2 in such a short time.
Roy sucks
I was on the Bear’s blog recently and they kept saying some of the things y’all are syaing, we didn’t use him right, etc etc etc. C’mon man. Roy just doesn’t run good routes and when you can’t do that, you can’t excel in the league. He’ll be a decent #2, a good #3 but in no shape or form a good #1…unless you are looking for the best run blocking WR in the game
The real question is "Why do people put him in the Number One WR category?" When did he earn that?
Everyday I feel a little better about the way this team is being run.

I hope he signs with Chicago.
Let’s see, what other bad moves by other teams can we encourage? Some of them are doing so well at making bad decisions all by themselves.
If at first you don't succeed - blame someone else.
MAybe the Eagles or Giants will sign him

RW’s ix nothimng more than 3rd WR on any team
he might get 500 yards
hes just not that good
I was pround of Jerry – Stephen – Garrett for seeing that
and cutting his lazy Arse

I was completely against the idea of Jones paying for his services on any level.

for two seasons.
We got Roy, and I said “Eh, this could be great”
Wish we would’ve gotten Boldin.
But then we might not’ve drafted Dez,
