I am finally tired of Jerry Jones and his big mouth
I have defended Jerry Jones with all of my heart for the past 20 years. I have trotted out lines such as "best owner in the league" or "god he loves the team so much" or "well he made Parcells pick Ware over Spears/Merriman" Many different variations of "see, he's not an idiot".
However, this Andre Gurode situation has finally put me over the edge. Ol JJ has finally broke me and crushed my support of him and the team that I love.
Jerry comes out last week saying how great Phil Costa(pfhh yeah sure) is and how he should start. He is not very good to begin with and then the guy gets hurts so what now? There was a reason he was not drafted. I had a feeling that this was going to lead to something bad and now we see it with Gurode being benched tonight as "a business decision".
Granted, Gurode is a flawed player and is coming off an injury and from what I have heard has not sounded good in camp. I do not like the fact he waited til July to have knee surgery although I don't have all the facts so can;t fully judge. I would have to say at this point though that he is better than Phil Costa or Kevin Kowalski.
But what a great way to leverage his maximum value in a trade ol trader JJ
If you want to trade him or make him take a pay cut then fine but why do you have to broadcast this to the media? What exactly does that accomplish?
Ever heard of leverage? What an amateur,
Oh, and what a nice defense you have assembled JJ. Thanks for wasting the talent of DeMarcus Ware by giving him no support.
Thanks for crushing my spirit as a fan

I agree 100% about the leverage factor
I thought Jerry knew a thing or two about sales. Why would anyone trade for a player that is likely to be cut if he doesn’t take a pay cut. I’m totally fine with Gurode leaving, I think waiting to have the surgery proved he isn’t the right kind of guy and he doesn’t fit our scheme. That being said, Jerry should have talked him up and inflated his value. Only Jerry Jones is stupid enough to trade for a player who will be cut or not resigned anyway (see Roy Williams.) I’m holding judgement on the defense, hard to judge them with a new scheme and no OTA’s or Minicamps and several starters being held out with injuries.
I'm just tired of defencing his stupid moves
I will never give up as a fan cause this is MY team but he is making it very hard

And when we have to listen to his 10 minutes of nonsense and babbling speech about the reasons for this move I am gonna vomit

I mute the TV when he starts talking.
And I skip his interviews on DC.com. The guy is full of s***.

question
When has Jerry Said that Gurode will be cut? What if he was held out because Jerry already has a trade worked out?
Now I am not saying that what Jerry did was right…but I think that we should wait until all the facts on in before we start rushing to judgments….
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

You guys would make some lousy salesmen.
Oh man, check out this amazing center I have. All-Pro stump in the middle of your defense taking out the top NT or DT you want during the pass or run. He’s so terrific I’m going to put him on the trade block.
Come on, there’s a healthy skepticism that people with common sense have. Other GMs around the league aren’t going to buy that we love our Center so much that we want to trade him. I think playing the angle that he’s getting in the way of progress and we have an up and coming player that we want to plug in who’s not as good but fits in better with our long term plans is the better way to go.
I mean other teams aren’t dumb, they see the film and see how good or bad he is. His trade value is only influenced by his play on the field and the other team’s desire to acquire him, not by Jerry Jones’ assessment of an undrafted rookie.
As for Phil Costa being bad, he was an All-ACC Academic lineman during his tenure at Maryland. He was their best lineman. Not only that, he grades as well or better than Maurkice or Mike Pouncey in every single category for the combine despite having been heavier than them. I mean he had a 9’04" broad jump with a 35" vertical, that’s not easy for 308 pounds, compare that to 8’ and 25 inch vertical for Mike and 7’11" for Maurkice at 304 and 303 pounds respectively. He jacked up 30 bench reps compared to 25 for Maurkice and 24 for Mike.
You want to know the real knock on Phil Costa? It’s that he had short arms and played for the ACC. I can definitely understand why though, if you’re putting your job on the line every time you elect to draft a player you definitely want to maximize their measurables. Did anybody else see that special on ESPN with Bill Parcells? He surprised me quite a bit, he looked like FiTaT up there with the average physical statistics of players per position in the league. There were guys whose production he loved but they didn’t “measure” out to be in the league, and he said whenever that happened he had a huge gut check to decide whether or not to draft them – the only exception being running backs. Production is production for running backs and they vary greatly in sizes.
Cowboys have unearthed some downright GEMS in the draft for later round lineman lately. If they redid the draft today and could see Nagy on tape against NFL caliber players you think he’d last until the 7th round?
I don’t know, I’m just saying don’t jump the gun here guys.

Sorry I just thought of something really funny,
If they redid the draft today and could see Nagy on tape against NFL caliber players you think he’d last until the 7th round?
Nagy is looking better than Danny Watkins the Eagle’s first round pick who got absolutely reamed by the Browns defensive line.

You're underselling Gurode!!
He’s an All-Pro two way player (plays both Center and NT) who has at least a decade left in him. We should get the 49ers first round picks in 2012 and 2013… plus Patrick Willis.
would love the niners if they did that

From what I just read...
apparently Dallas has said take a pay cut or you’re off the team. No trade, just cut.
Guess we’ll find out soon.
Disinformation, it seems to me like there’s a trade in the works just like when Jerry made Herschel Walker sit out.
Now if some team will just give us
17 draft picks for Gurode.

Wish I did man, I do remember that our own KD Drummond made an excellent story highlighting Bill’s main points.
With the magic of DVR he even managed to chart out Bill Parcell’s average player measurables. Click here to read its excellence.
You mad bro>?
No one knows anything yet.. and does this really sound like Jerry? The guy who kept RW in front of Miles, the guy who kept Barber in front of Felix.. no this sounds like JG and I LOVE IT!
Tony Romo 2011's League's Most Valuable Player
doesnt fit
Are you Gurodes agent? His play has diminished,he had a late surgery, and showed up to camp like he and montrae were training to beat joey chestnut, and he doesn’t fit what we want the line to look like. I’m all for this youth movement. As for his draft position, kinda worked out for Austin, and ratliff, and the rest of the talent we develop. Sit back, relax, and watch how this plays out. Gurode is expendable, and I’m fine with him and montrae going to the buffett in another city.
Switzbeats you were lambasting me for my stance on Jerry 2 weeks ago ?
Should I do the same in return towards you ?
Jerry is the end all in Dallas.
Like I said I have defended him over and over but I'm tired of him running his mouth
It would be nice to have an organization that does not always tip their hand to what they are going to do.
The whole world does not need to know how Jerry feels about his team at all times.
But feel free to lambast away

There is really no reason to have so much negativity right now.
We should be a Wild Card contending team. 8-11 wins.

I know this tidbit has passed into Lore and Legend and is cited whenever one of Jerry’s Kids feels the need to defend their man, but does anyone have a citation to an actual news story that reported this? A story contemporaneous with that particular draft?

maybe I can get a job scouting, I would LOVE to work for the Cowboys scouting players and actually get to be a part of the war room and I get to talk up my guy
I would have been like Jerry, if you dont draft Tyron Smith you will regret it until the day you die

no idea what you do for a living, but you are really into this stuff
That kind of job is one where there’s no official path, you get your foot in the door and roll with it.
Why aren’t you knocking on teams’ doors, sending aplications, looking for the lowest of jobs, even taking an internship and working fo rfree if you can swing it.
Most of those guys just worked their way up.
I get the idea you’re young enough to go for it.

idk where to start to be honest or I would
im 27 so if Jeff Ireland can be a scout at 24, idk why I cant
obviously he had connections and has been around football for longer than me but I think I am passionate and smart enough to be a scout

I can't speak from experience, but I think you just gotta knock on doors, get in doing anything
then watch and learn.
My son wants to go into the music industry, I keep saying that to him to.
But it would be hard work, you know, a decade of paying your dues and learning.
Maybe hang out at camps, at the combine, try to make connections. Because you are right, knowing one person can get you in.

Well, I know the way into baseball is the Winter Meetings.
I’d imagine some similar function in the NFL would be your best chance.

Of all the things JJ has done
this seems pretty tame.
I still can’t believe that after the nightmare decade that cowboys have just endured some of you guys are NOW deciding that you’ve had enough of JJ and his mouth. Putting JG in charge looks like a genius move so far and if this young OL can be as good as it looks, he can talk day and night for all I care.
Everyone makes mistakes with the draft, FA, etc. and that is why I have always defended him
But hearing Jerry during the broadcast just spewing nonsense and giving a running commentary of the roster made me furious there is no need for it and it does not help make us better in any way

I'm under the impression that
No matter what the new oline shows, or what is put together from here on out, that you’ll just be disappointed anyway. There are 53 spots on the team and a salary cap. We can’t keep everyone around cause we like them.
Yeah, because he’s been so well protected these last few years. Now he’s gonna be running for his life, and he might break something. These guys are gonna be missing delayed blitzes by ILB’s left and right. Things will be totall different now.

Understood, I just don't like the way this has been handled
Of course I hope out o-line works out. I have been happy with the play of Tyron and Nagy and fully agree that we need to get younger there. I just want to see us win and I don’t see how it makes sense for our GM to go on live tv and announce his intentions.
"Look up, get up, and don't ever give up."

One of the most important components of a good o-line is continuity and familiarity
but it appears we will have 4 out of 5 new starters or in the case of Kosier at a new position

So wait, this is what has pushed you over the ledge?
This small little incident is what finally tired you of Jerry Jones?
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
Probably a last straw type of thing.

Creasy i'm guessing at this point and judging that there's a long list of things
that has bugged switz and this was just the final nail in the coffin so to speak. But who knows maybe he can clarify that much better. J.J the owner is pretty good but J.J the g.m is terrible, can’t stand the guy however I’ll give him credit for getting the cornerstones to this franchise romo, witten, ware, ratliff, tron etc…
To clarify my anger about this issue....
I have always defended Jerry for the last 20 years. There is no owner I would rather have. I give him credit for spending money and acquiring many good players, esp the late round and undrafted guys like Ratliff and Romo..
What has pushed me over the edge on this one is that he just cannot keep his mouth shut. Him just running his mouth for a quarter with his standard hypberole last night made me furious.
If you want to cut or trade or make Gurode take a pay cut then go ahead. I trust the judgement of the coaches and organization. But just don’t yap about how great the player is but then also say that he’s not playing due to a “business decision”. It does nothing good and makes Jerry sound like a fool. Most likely we would not be able to trade him for anything due to his health and contract but what good does it do make this big deal over it?
I feel like the fact he cannot ever keep his mouth shut and always wants to brag about how shrewd he is puts our team at a disadvantage.
Hopefully Garrett can help change this situation.

I'm down with "the yoots"
I haven’t defended JJ for 20 years unlike your brave, loyal self, switzbeats. He lost me when he fired Jimmy Johnson. But like you, I am a life-long, die-hard, yellow-dog Cowboys fan and nothing he does will ever change that. FWIW, I support his Gurode decision and the O-line youth movement. Or as My Cousin Vinny would say, “the yoots.”

I will give you one thing.
I sincerely wish Jerry would not go on camera and run his mouth. He enjoys hearing his own football wisdom way too much.
Formerly Pineywoods - different name, same cockeyed view of the world.
Jason Garrett - Lord of Order
Rob Ryan - Lord of Chaos
Jerry wouldn't know football wisdom if it slapped him in the face.

Definitely didn't have to guess who wrote this haha.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
I don't see what all the fuss is about.
It’s Andre Gurode, the same guy many here bash all the time “Undeserved probowls” things of the nature.
Why now is it a problem to release him? Because he held him out, just in case he could get something in a trade? Because he came out and said exactly what he was doing, when asked? Or is this just another reason to take a shot at Jones?
I really don’t understand why people are throwing a fit over this. It’s not like he Steve McNair’d him or anything.
You aint been around in awhile, maybe you haven't heard........I don't shine shoes no more
It's moreso because Jones idiotically told the media before the preseason game vs Vikes
The “business decision” holding Gurode out of this game by Jones stole the headlines over the exhibition vs Minny.
And because of that, we had no leverage in trying to deal Gurode for even a late-round draft pick.
Diarrhea of the mouth Jethro had to tip his hand again, so we don’t even come close to getting anything for AG.

Leverage you have no idea if he gained or lost leverage because of it
For every reason you say he lost leverage I can spin it to show he gained leverage.

Explain to me how he lost leverage?
You think we as the fans, and the Dallas Cowboys staff are the only people on the planet that knows Gurode is an aging player, on decline, with bad knees? That we have a bunch of young lineman that have been highly praised and look poised to start? That with the practical purging of the offensive line, that none of the old vets were really safe?
Everyone knows it. If they didn’t, and he was really the 57th best player in the league…he’d probably already have a contract or we would’ve had a trade offer.
You aint been around in awhile, maybe you haven't heard........I don't shine shoes no more

I really didn’t think this was that big of a deal.
He’s an old center who is good but not great and has a contract that makes him pretty much untradable.
It’s not that other people might not be interested, but I sincerely doubt that anyone was going to want to take that contract in a trade.
