Taylor Mays for Special Teams anyone?
Adam Schefter just tweeted that the 49ers have sent out a mass email to many teams across the league shopping a trade for S Taylor Mays. I wansn't necessarily high on this guy as a safety, however having a guy on special teams that is 6' 3", 230 lbs and runs a 4.3 forty? I think that would be quite an asset. Imagine that guy playing the gunner on punt teams. I'm sure most punt returners would not want to face that kind of physical freak coming downhill at them.
He is mostly unimpressive as a safety so far but I guess you can never have too many. He is much more of a box guy but has proved that he does have at least SOME ball skills. Could be a great ST pickup though.

Of course only if it doens't cost too much
I would imagine a 3rd or 4th rounder is what they are asking…

This should be a fanshot, also there is already a fanpost about it.

Thanks a lot Nnamdi for wasting a whole day of productivity at work and stressing me out. Now we get to destroy you twice a year and I'll call us even.
People should read before they post...
Normally I don/t really care of about the fan shot/post distinctives, but at least look before you post.
Yep

yeah it would be great
if you want to give up a 2nd rder for a special teamer…… there is a reason San Fran put him on the trade block and its the same reason he fell in the draft. He sucks.

A second round pick probably makes too much money to play only on special teams.
If he can add to the team elsewhere, say as a nickel/dime LB, then maybe you can justify making him active on gameday.
Otherwise, maybe he should start working on his long-snapping technique :)

I don't think anyone thinks of giving a 2nd for him
He was drafted at 49 overall, the middle of the second round. Players are like cars and anything else. Once they are put on the shelf (or in this case get drafted) their stock begins to go down, unless they do something to raise their stock (which he hasn’t). 3rd or 4th rounder at best. Many even thought the second was a little to early for him.

Yes.
Absolutely. Stick him on ST and spend a year or two developing him at S. Offer them a 4th rounder or so, let’s do this.

Nope.
I am basically against giving up draft picks unless we can get some kind of superstar who is guaranteed to perform to expectations and who is invulnerable to injury. In other words, no.
