I don't know what game you guys were watching, but I think the Cowboys did great last night. Yeah, we lost. We did that a lot last year. In fact I think we did it 10 times. Last night we had one of the best teams in the nation, a team that has played in the last two AFC championships, beat for the first 55 minutes of the game. And let's look at the other factors: We were playing in New York in prime time on opening day, and we were playing on the 10th anniversary of 9-11-01. We were scripted to loose. All of the prognosticator's, except my fellow Kool-Aid drinkers, not only predicted us to loose, but loose handily. And we did, but just by the hair of out chinie-chin-chins.
So we lost, we were supposed to loose. We were supposed to have our butts handed to us on a silver and blue platter, but we didn't. We played a better game than we may have played all of last year. We played better than our opposition. Look at what went right.
Our rookie offensive line, that didn't play together all pre-season, did a fantastic job. Our line will only get better. Our defense, that has had 4 weeks to learn Ryan's insane schemes, did incredible. Our secondary didn't do so hot, we knew that going in, but they did a hell of a lot better than any of us expected. At one point in the game we were down to third stringers, and we were still managing some great plays. Our defense, and even our secondary will improve game by game.
Romo made some mistakes. That's what Romo does. He thinks the entire game is on his shoulders. I wonder why he thinks that? Is it because all of Cowboy nation is ready to behead him when he makes the mistakes he has always made. He was playing one of the best defenses in the league. he was playing after coming back from a season ending injury. He was playing with a new O-line, a new starting running back, and cramping players all around. Oh, and I don't remember Tony being out there on the punt team. Tony did fine, not great, but fine. He is not a premiere QB, but he is a good one that has won, and will win a lot of games for us.
I think the Boys did great, and after last nights game I think we have a real shot at the play-offs. Yes I am crazy, but I am not reactionary. The parts of our team that did bad last night, excluding Romo, will get better as the season goes on. We will be 4-4 or 5-3 at the half way point. We will dominate the second half of the season. The defense will become more and more comfortable with Rob Ryan's scheme. The secondary will see a lot of rotation so that fresh players will be playing opposing receivers. The O-line, which is pretty darn good, will get even better. And Ginger Joshua will be willing to pull hurt players out no matter how much the scream.
I think it was a great game, and for 55 minutes it was the best Cowboys football I have seen in a year and a half.
