Cowboys vs. Lions Game Notes

No longer are the Detroit Lions doormats, they sport a spotless 3-0 record in 2011. The combination of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson has been deadly. Our secondary is sure to get a test this week, along with our offensive line. The Lions front four is a fearsome unit, even with Nick Fairley not likely to play.

But first, some awards to a few Cowboys. Sean Lee was named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September. Right on! Lee has been a revelation this year now that he's starting in place of Keith Brooking, and looks to be a star in the making for years to come.

Sean Lee is the first Cowboy player to be named NFC Defensive Player of the Month since the award began in 1986 and he becomes the first monthly winner since Tony Romo won NFC Offensive Player of the Month for his play in November of 2009.

Also, kicker Dan Bailey won the award for NFC Special Teams player of the week.

* Bailey converted all six field-goal attempts, including the game-winning 40-yarder with 1:47 remaining in the Cowboys’ 18-16 win over Washington.
* He scored all of Dallas’ 18 points and his six field goals tied for the most by a rookie in a single game – GARO YEPREMIAN (1966) and JEFF REED (2002).
* Bailey, an undrafted rookie free agent, had a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter and kicked two FGs in the second (27 and 32 yards). In the third quarter, he converted a 41-yarder and he finished the game with two more FGs in the fourth (23 and 40 yards).
* In his rookie season from Oklahoma State, this is Bailey’s first career Player of the Week Award. Bailey is the first Cowboys kicker to be honored since Week 5, 2007 (NICK FOLK).
* He is the third rookie kicker in franchise history to be named Special Teams Player of the Week, joining Folk and BILLY CUNDIFF (Week 4, 2002).

Also, DeMarcus, who has been selected to five consecutive Pro Bowls (2007-2011), will play in his 100th career game against Detroit.  Ware has registered the second-most sacks (85) in NFL history through a player’s first 100 games, trailing only Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White (105).

Notes on the game below...

The Cowboys have the 5th best offense in yards per game at 412/game. The Lions have the 10th best at 400/game.
