Dallas Cowboys Announce 2011 Roster Cuts
DallasCowboys.com just published the list of roster cuts the Cowboys made today.
As we had seen earlier today, notable cuts had included DE Igor Olshansky, FB Chris Gronkowski, TE Jason Pociask and Kickers Shayne Graham and Dave Rayner.
Other notable cuts include linebackers Brandon Williams, Kenwin Cummings and Orie Lemon as well as safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. With the cuts, the Cowboys are going light with only three ILB.
The Cowboys have also chosen not to go with a fullback, at least initially. Fifth-round CB Josh Thomas and seventh-round FB Shaun Chapas are the two draft picks from 2011 that did not make the roster, but may reappear on the practice squad.

Surprised we didn't keep Thomas or Butler.
Hopefully we try and get Hanson or Cox from the waiver wire.

i would have kept Butler over Geathers

i can see your point, If him and Lissemore can grow as expected that would preclude us having to draft a DE higher than we need to...

Geathers 6'7" 300 pounds
If you can get him to learn a bit and hit the weight room you can get him to 315 or better. Thats a strong guy to put somewhere on the DL
Wocik(sp) can work wonders......

Why keep Brooking
he was a good player but he is 36. He makes more money than the young guys too.
by Jonathan Stern on Sep 3, 2011 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions
But he also knows more
This is a case of a guy that SHOULDN’T be able to play a game of young people, but the guy finds a way because of work ethic and knowledge.
He’s a good example. What we hope Jason Witten will become by the end of his current contract.
Arnold, almost 5 years of good memories, you'll be missed.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
You don't want Cox
Off the field issues are huge. He is probably going to go to jail for a couple of years for raping his (former) girlfriend’s best friend while she was unconscious. She got pregnant, he lied about it, DNA tests proved it was him. Yikes.
Correct
Has to clear waivers first, we’ll start signing guys to the PS starting tomorrow.
The Cowboys would like to have Butler on the PS, but that is far from a sure thing so far. Remember how the Ravens swooped in last year and picked up Bryan McCann last year? Same thing could happen to Butler, but without the happy end for the Cowboys.

Who are you talking about exactly? Akwasi?
Corner to safety isnt a big deal. I thought he should have been given a shot at corner though.

Alan Ball isnt the best example. Im just saying thats a pretty natural transition
whether it worked in this case or not. It’s like sliding a center to guard. Didnt work in this case though.

2009 = ok draft
remember our first pick that year didn’t come until the 3rd round. Those 12 picks were all low picks. If you compare 2009 to other draft year’s it’s really not so bad. It’s not great either, hehe.

So guys who is on the bubble? We have to sign someone from another team right?
So who will get cut to make room for that guy?
Tony Romo 2011's League's Most Valuable Player
My guess
is they will try and trade Choice but I havent seen other cuts so I dont know who is on teh bubble. I’m going to take a stab at it and say Albright, Parnell, Young and neither kicker is safe.
by youpokedthebear on Sep 3, 2011 5:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Sam Young?
You figure tackle is still a likely pickup to get some experience in case one of our starting tackles goes down.
Martin Rucker will be here a month at most.
Who are you? And how did you get in here?
I'm a locksmith..and..I'm a locksmith. -- Frank Drebin.
I think they would have sent him packing if they were going to.
Otherwise, why expose guys you would’ve loved to keep by cutting them over Bennett?
Rabid and luvin' it
Not quite cutting
Him getting hurt gave them a reason to keep him into the season. Then maybe dangle him a bit for bate. Guy has good hands when he chooses to use them. Last year of his contract.
His pre season blocking was amazing again, way better than Wittens
He really is the best blocking tight end in the game,
by Musiccitynorm on Sep 3, 2011 5:42 PM CDT up reply actions
That was my assessment.
When Marty comes back. When Carter comes back, Forbaith comes back too, and we’ll have more decisions to make. It’ll probably kicker for kicker, but with Carter someone could get cut on the o-line like maybe Young or Parnell. That doesn’t even count if we pick up anyone off waivers.
Who are you? And how did you get in here?
I'm a locksmith..and..I'm a locksmith. -- Frank Drebin.
pfft singleback double TE is a better running formartion
you can always audible and have a te go in the backfield

I think McCray, Geathers, and Rucker would be first ones to go

by Musiccitynorm on Sep 3, 2011 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions
the article you read is wrong.
I don’t know what NE was thinking but Tate is a productive WR.
Tate was targeted 47 times last year and produced 432 yards and 3 TD.
For comparison, RW was targeted 64 times last year (36% more) and produced 530 yards and 5 TD.
Tate’ catch rate is a little low at 51% but he more than makes up for that with what he does when he does catch it.

i could compare him to Tellus who had an almost identical 48 targets and produced 260 yards and 0 TDs.

thats the funny thing, I watch all the games,, I sit in a bar with some friends some of which have played pro ball, yes the NFL, and one who coached as a defensive backs coach in the SEC,,,, We sit and watch every single game on Sunday at a sports bar another friend owns, So unless it was monday night I saw them all,,,,
I do not trust my naked eye, I have learned unless you see the game from a one player one play at a time then you really don’t know what you see,,
I saw all the games but still dont know about Tate, the scouts are the ones saying tate has no value as reciever,, I trust the scouts

here’s why I like Tate. See the EPA / P stat. For Tate its 0.34. That’s great production.

compare that to NFL WRs
http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerstats.php?year=2010&pos=WR&season=reg
this is a fact. Tate was very productive with the opportunities he had.
and while I don’t trust the naked eye either, I’ve watched Pats games and Tate looked good.

i would when he doesn't get the team concept and views every play as a chance to make himself look good instead of playing solid...

Like Brodney Pool did on the Eagles WR in the final preseason game?
And what happened after that big hit? A 15 yard Unnecessary Roughness penalty.
The game is changing. The days of the intimidating, head hunting Safeties are sadly coming to a close.

Jesus don't make my heart stop like that
We cut MARIO Butler. MARIO Butler.
Let’s be clear when we’re talking about cutting a player with the last name “Butler”

can’t beleive that kid didn’t make the 53 man roster
Every team has a great gameplan until they get Punched in the Mouth!
Didn't see Butler getting cut or Holland sticking
I’m hopeful of a move or two is on the way. Too thin at CB in this day and age.
Holland showed good in the Miami game
earned the spot,,

Yeah, and if costa or nagy struggle they know what they have in Holland

He did show well
I do not understand the hate on for Holland. He played well last year, played well in the Miami game. Not sure what everyone wants. He is a vet who can come in and play

He does not fit,,,
If he’s in the game then the playbook just got cut in half

and the team needs to take two buses to the stadium....

Not sure that that is true
are you saying that because of his lack of athleticsm or he mentally he does not know the playbook. If he didn.t fit,he would be cut

And he gets hurt because he doesn't stay in shape.

He's lazy and showed up fat.
I don’t like his work ethic.

How many OL are not fat?
Larry Allen was fat… he could still out-run some corners.
I really like everything we did
I plan to see Mario Butler,Kenwin Cummings and Sendejo on the practice squad.I also believe that both Bennet and Choice will be traded.Sam Young will be cut when a better option is available on the wire
would have kept sendejo over McCray..that was a Camillis lobby

Toss up.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sendejo on the PS. they were both good on ST’s but not so good on Defense. I do love Sendejo’s hustle and tendency to be around the ball.

count me in as another fan of M. Butler
hopefully he makes it to our practice squad
He already said on his twitter that he is.
Go Cowboyz!!!!!!
Dez is gonna beast this year!!

if no one claims him?
he shut down AJ Green in College so AJ may be telling the Bengals to grab him.
number changes per Nick Eatman
Programs will be needed even more for next Sunday’s regular-season opener. Not only did the Cowboys waive 27 veterans on Saturday, but six players who made the team have switched jersey numbers.
Among those were starters Kenyon Coleman, who moved from 98 to 99, previously worn by Igor Olshansky, who was cut Saturday.
Abram Elam switched from 24 to 26, a number worn by rookie cornerback Josh Thomas. And rookie tailback Phillip Tanner is now wearing 24, moving down from 34.
Rookie receiver Dwayne Harris moved from 14 to 17, rookie linebacker Bruce Carter went from 53 to 54, while rookie outside linebacker Alex Albright is now wearing 55, switching from 47. Albright was the only player among these six that had to switch numbers to comply with NFL numbering rules, stating that linebackers can only wear numbers in the 50s and 90s.
So not only has the roster been drastically reduced, but a few changes have been added as well.

what`s wrong with 54?
or good for that matter…long as he`s making plays and we`re winning he can wear double zero.
Bobby Carpenter wore 54
so did Randy White,,, Carter is not Randy White,, you should be able to figure it out from there,,, I personally am going to give him a chance

A few minor ones
Leon from last year, Randall (the project) from around 2002-2004, Tyrone from 2004, Charlie from 1995 to 2000 (how quickly we forget).
Good luck at McDonald's, AOA.

he was the first wr taken in the draft a few years ago
Looked very promising until that knee injury last year. He’s someone that should get a real hard look considering his talent level

yes :) and the kid actually caught every ball thrown to him
hoping he makes it onto our practice squad and eventually gets another chance at our roster. He had an incredible NCAA career
AOA practice Squad?
Could the Cowboys get AOA to the practice Squad?
Sure. What team want to have to put that on a jersey, program, website.
He's good, but he's no Danny White!
2 draft picks already gone
And a second year guy. What a waste. Stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room Jerry.
Drafting isn't a science
These are low draft picks sent packing. Best any team can hope for are all their picks in rounds 1-4 make the team each year and play significant downs. 1st round picks should become elite if not superstars, 2nd rounders should be solid (elite if injury drops) and 3rd and 4th rounders should be average to solid. All others are backup/special teams players.
When you’re not trying to dispose of 1st and 2nd rounders (like Bobby Carpenter) over and over, then you’re drafting well.

Josh Thomas
Why keep McCann over Thomas? The guys is speedy but tiny.
I'm not a big McCann fan either
He made a couple of highlight reel plays last year, but fumbled the ball like crazy—big red flag—and seemed to get lost in coverage a lot from what I saw. I think if Thomas had shown any kind of promise they would have kept him over McCann.
I see they finally
got Igor Olshansky and his skates out of town, I know the LB’s were tired of him always ending up on their lap….
Billion dollar dream and hundred dollar nightmares
Want to know what the offense was so ugly that last game?
It was one of these guys that got cut on the O-line. G Pepa Letuli was getting beat constantly. I noticed it the second time watching the game, and there were literally like 3 plays consecutively that he didn’t get a hand on anyone and they blew right by him blowing up the play in the backfield or rushing the QB or whatever. Absolutely did NOT have his head in the game…
