i would have kept Butler over Geathers

Naw keep Geathers

If they really are interested in him they need to give some time to him.

i can see your point, If him and Lissemore can grow as expected that would preclude us having to draft a DE higher than we need to...

Geathers 6'7" 300 pounds

If you can get him to learn a bit and hit the weight room you can get him to 315 or better. Thats a strong guy to put somewhere on the DL

Why keep Brooking

he was a good player but he is 36. He makes more money than the young guys too.

by Jonathan Stern on Sep 3, 2011 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

But he also knows more

This is a case of a guy that SHOULDN’T be able to play a game of young people, but the guy finds a way because of work ethic and knowledge.

He’s a good example. What we hope Jason Witten will become by the end of his current contract.

Arnold, almost 5 years of good memories, you'll be missed.

You don't want Cox

Off the field issues are huge. He is probably going to go to jail for a couple of years for raping his (former) girlfriend’s best friend while she was unconscious. She got pregnant, he lied about it, DNA tests proved it was him. Yikes.

Correct

Has to clear waivers first, we’ll start signing guys to the PS starting tomorrow.

The Cowboys would like to have Butler on the PS, but that is far from a sure thing so far. Remember how the Ravens swooped in last year and picked up Bryan McCann last year? Same thing could happen to Butler, but without the happy end for the Cowboys.

That was my assessment.

When Marty comes back. When Carter comes back, Forbaith comes back too, and we’ll have more decisions to make. It’ll probably kicker for kicker, but with Carter someone could get cut on the o-line like maybe Young or Parnell. That doesn’t even count if we pick up anyone off waivers.

by Musiccitynorm on Sep 3, 2011 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions

the article you read is wrong.

I don’t know what NE was thinking but Tate is a productive WR.

Tate was targeted 47 times last year and produced 432 yards and 3 TD.

For comparison, RW was targeted 64 times last year (36% more) and produced 530 yards and 5 TD.

Tate’ catch rate is a little low at 51% but he more than makes up for that with what he does when he does catch it.

hahaha

thats the funny thing, I watch all the games,, I sit in a bar with some friends some of which have played pro ball, yes the NFL, and one who coached as a defensive backs coach in the SEC,,,, We sit and watch every single game on Sunday at a sports bar another friend owns, So unless it was monday night I saw them all,,,,

I do not trust my naked eye, I have learned unless you see the game from a one player one play at a time then you really don’t know what you see,,

I saw all the games but still dont know about Tate, the scouts are the ones saying tate has no value as reciever,, I trust the scouts

by Musiccitynorm on Sep 3, 2011 5:52 PM CDT up reply actions

scouts?

are the scouts your friends or an article you read?

here’s why I like Tate. See the EPA / P stat. For Tate its 0.34. That’s great production.

http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerpage.php?playerid=19-B.Tate&season=&pos=WR

compare that to NFL WRs

http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerstats.php?year=2010&pos=WR&season=reg

this is a fact. Tate was very productive with the opportunities he had.

and while I don’t trust the naked eye either, I’ve watched Pats games and Tate looked good.

You know what Kenny Powers says? Fundamentals are the crutch of the talentless.

by Fan in Thick and Thin on Sep 3, 2011 5:58 PM CDT up reply actions

and yet we find him on the street,,,

no i dont know a single scout,,, It was an artical, and I think it quoted the Patriots scouting department, guys who saw him every day,,, All that being said what do you think they would say about Ogletree?

I’m Sorry he’s not great reciever, that doesn’t make me and the patriots right does it? You may be right and I will certianly watch him if he finds a team to play on.

by Musiccitynorm on Sep 3, 2011 6:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I’ll leave it at this.

It’s called the “make-him-throw-the-ball” defense.

He’s going to regress to the mean and throw lots of INTs this year.

maybe not...lots of rumors about his knee surgery and that it was actually microfracture,

"We were going to go out to Valley Ranch and use it as an opportunity to get back out in the heat and work, and I open up the curtains this morning very early and all of a sudden it was 68 and raining," Garrett said. "I said to the players, 'How big was the group prayer last night?' -Jason Garrett

he’s a tweener DE. would fit as a 3-4 OLB.

Go and get Merriweather. He has talent and is still young. Let’s see if the vets on this team can help get his head straight. He still has talent and next year could move into the starting center fielder we have needed. I know some of you may disagree, and that is what I love about this sight – we may disagree about how to get there, but we all have the same goal in mind. GO COWBOYS!!!

And trust me...

I respect OCC’s opinion. But a safety with 12 INT’s in 4 years is better than anything we have had for a long time. All I am saying, is that o don’t think he is done, and I think if we bring him in as a backup this year and let him earn his way, I truly believe he would be starting by next year.

don't just look at the stats....hearing the fans talk he always went for the big hit, hung his corners out to dry and gave up a lot of big plays trying to make himself look good. Don't touch him

Like Brodney Pool did on the Eagles WR in the final preseason game?

And what happened after that big hit? A 15 yard Unnecessary Roughness penalty.

The game is changing. The days of the intimidating, head hunting Safeties are sadly coming to a close.

number changes per Nick Eatman

Programs will be needed even more for next Sunday’s regular-season opener. Not only did the Cowboys waive 27 veterans on Saturday, but six players who made the team have switched jersey numbers.

Among those were starters Kenyon Coleman, who moved from 98 to 99, previously worn by Igor Olshansky, who was cut Saturday.

Abram Elam switched from 24 to 26, a number worn by rookie cornerback Josh Thomas. And rookie tailback Phillip Tanner is now wearing 24, moving down from 34.

Rookie receiver Dwayne Harris moved from 14 to 17, rookie linebacker Bruce Carter went from 53 to 54, while rookie outside linebacker Alex Albright is now wearing 55, switching from 47. Albright was the only player among these six that had to switch numbers to comply with NFL numbering rules, stating that linebackers can only wear numbers in the 50s and 90s.

So not only has the roster been drastically reduced, but a few changes have been added as well.

And a second year guy. What a waste. Stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room Jerry.

by soonercowboy14 on Sep 3, 2011 11:41 PM CDT reply actions

Drafting isn't a science

These are low draft picks sent packing. Best any team can hope for are all their picks in rounds 1-4 make the team each year and play significant downs. 1st round picks should become elite if not superstars, 2nd rounders should be solid (elite if injury drops) and 3rd and 4th rounders should be average to solid. All others are backup/special teams players.

When you’re not trying to dispose of 1st and 2nd rounders (like Bobby Carpenter) over and over, then you’re drafting well.

Why keep McCann over Thomas? The guys is speedy but tiny.

by DaProphet on Sep 4, 2011 12:41 AM CDT reply actions

I'm not a big McCann fan either

He made a couple of highlight reel plays last year, but fumbled the ball like crazy—big red flag—and seemed to get lost in coverage a lot from what I saw. I think if Thomas had shown any kind of promise they would have kept him over McCann.

Want to know what the offense was so ugly that last game?

It was one of these guys that got cut on the O-line. G Pepa Letuli was getting beat constantly. I noticed it the second time watching the game, and there were literally like 3 plays consecutively that he didn’t get a hand on anyone and they blew right by him blowing up the play in the backfield or rushing the QB or whatever. Absolutely did NOT have his head in the game…
