Broncos vs. Chiefs? That’s your feature game? Meanwhile there is actually a PAIR of good teams in Cincinnati w/ much stronger playoff implications.

The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.

that it was good for dallas that Chi, Ten, and Philly won…..all move the Cowboys up in the draft if the Cowboys finish 8-8.

then go be a waterboy for someone. players wanna play and flynn will never play behind rodgers.

by kitten mittens on Jan 1, 2012 6:02 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly. Why is that even a question??

Of course he wants to win but who wants to say "Yeah, I was part of a winning team. We even won a couple of Superbowls. I was on the sideline while we did it. " He’s got a ring already as a backup. Now it’s time for him to go try to take a team to the big dance on his own. It’s hard to believe that some fans think an NFL football player, who’s probably played and competed at a top level his entire life, who’s been the best player on his team all the way up to the NFL for the most part, would really make a conscious decision to throw all that work away so he could be 2nd best and ride a bench.

I've been rooting for this, in case we lose tonight:
If Dallas loses (hopefully Santa gives Dallas an extra gift of making the playoffs), the Cowboys will be 8-8. Here is what needs to happen for Dallas to move up to the 13th pick (each occurrence moves Dallas one from its current 18th position):

Philadelphia defeats Washington (@ Philadelphia)

Seattle beats Arizona (@ Arizona)

San Diego vanquishes Oakland (@ Oakland)

Chicago wins one of its last two games (@ Green Bay and @ Minnesota)

Tennessee overcomes Houston (@ Houston)

Santa left Dallas a win-win scenario this morning

Tebow just want's to make it interesting!!!! He's going to let KC move it to the 30 and then punt with just 2:32 left on the clock.

His punt returner is going to muff the catch and then fall on it at the 2 so he will have to take it 98 yards with 220 left on the clock and no time outs.

by mdlusk on Jan 1, 2012 5:49 PM CST reply actions

Why are you assuming the team just tanked the Philly game?

I thought the defense played hard, much better than round 1 although the pass defense was still poor.

Once McGee entered the game, it was over. We didn’t exactly light up the Eagles D with Romo the first game, and McGee can’t throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield apparently.

by foyesboys on Jan 1, 2012 5:51 PM CST up reply actions

I saw a flat, lifeless team for much of the first half, after which the defense woke up

regardless of Tony or not. Both of our sets (O and D) of Big Uglies were horrible for much of the game.and who says the team has to give up when the backup QB comes in? I really despised that game.

by mdlusk on Jan 1, 2012 5:54 PM CST up reply actions

I saw much tighter coverage and far better run D then the first game, even in the first half

Philly still was very effective, but i thought the D played hard. Honestly, our D is just not that talented.

I thought the Oline looked bad in large part because McGee was making awful decisions as to how he moved in the pocket. Romo makes a lot of those guys miss easily.

Just did some reading because the Seattle/Arizona game is terrible

Sounds like the salary cap carry over rule is a real thing. So the Cowboys can carry over about $18 million of this year’s cap into next year and can get a $1.5 million salary cap exception. So we suffer about $25 million in dead cap but get to add about $20 million in salary cap exceptions.

So at the end of the day we should expect to have about 15-20 million in room to play with.

by Blue Eyed Devil on Jan 1, 2012 6:25 PM CST up reply actions

I talked about this over on Raf's site

It’s over $18 mill I think. So even with the dead money we’ll have plenty to work with but so will other teams. Plus, I think we save like $6 mill if we cut Newman. Certain cuts could save even more for players that might not be back anyway. Also, this is all predicated on the salary cap staying exactly the same as it is this year which I’m not sure of. Here’s a link to a guy who breaks it down:

As a former player I understand certain superstitions

Through high school and college as a team we hd certain things we did every week. As a player I had one superstition I had. At the start of the season I had my family and friends sign a T-Shirt with thier name and a message. I wore it under my pads and did not wash it all season. Still have all off them framed.

I had this dumb ritual when I played semi-pro football

where before a game, I squatted down with my arms out and sidestepped left to right for a few minutes, I figured it’d help me being a lineman at the time (despite being really undersized for one, I’m sorry but being 245 lbs. ISN’T lineman size) But I was no. 2 on my teams depth chart and only started/played 3 games, the first game was awesome as I lead blocked for 3 touchdowns, but got overpowered on double teams and facemasked repeatedly with no flags on my next game. The 3rd game was average. But my awesome game was the only game my team won, so that makes me some kind of a “hero” i suppose.

He’s got the ball on a 4th and 9. From around their 30.
Why do you punt?
Just to not look bad?
Best case scenario if you fail to get a first is they kick a FG.
So it’s 10-3.

I hate stupid Coaching.

I thought so at the time, because I thought they’d have time to get a FG but not a TD later. I was right — though I’ll admit they probably should have gotten a pass interference penalty on the 2nd to last play.

They kicked the FG, then gave up I think 1 first down before they stopped Baltimore, then drove to around the 30. The last 2 plays were passes to the end zone that failed.
