Thanks, but......................
Thanks, but I was actually wondering about space under the cap. I wonder if we can only sign 1 top free agent and some smaller guys, or maybe 2 or 3 top free agents. Thanks in advance.
from what I understand
Dallas is ~18 million under the cap right now
from what I understand Dallas is right around the cap for next year, however We can roll the ~18 million over plus with a few cuts They should be around 20 million under…..
Does that answer your Question?
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.

That number sounds about right.
JimmyK would know better than we would, though.

Here is some good info that will help..
The Cowboys’ 2012 Cap Space
The Cowboys have about $28M in dead money next season. Fans were angry, and still are, wondering how the team can afford to sign anyone to improve the team (either in Free Agency or the Draft).
The Cowboys, however, knew what they were doing despite the growing anger of fans. During the off season following a dismal 6-10 record in 2010, the Dallas Cowboys made several cuts of key players.
They decided to go with youth, and cut away the likes of Andre Gurode ©, Marc Colombo (G), Leonard Davis (G) Marion Barber (RB) Igor Olshansky (DE) and Roy Williams (WR).
How could the team ever survive this? Well, let’s just assume that the cap in 2012 will be the same as this year’s $123M. That means the Cowboys would only have $95M to spend after the dead money, right?
Not so fast. Thanks to the new CBA, if you are a team who stays under the 2011 cap by at least $17M, then you can then roll that money into a credit for the 2012 dead money.
That means, in reality, the Cowboys only have $11M in dead money for 2012. The Cowboys would have $112M to work with.
But wait! There’s more! Thanks to the retirement of Jon Kitna, the Cowboys have just earned an extra $2.7M in cap space putting them at a cool $119.7M of cap space, with more moves to come.
If the Cowboys decide to part ways with Terrence Newman, which is very likely to occur, the Cowboys will have $7 more and a total of $126.7M to work with.
All the while fans were angry… oblivious to the fact that the moves were all coming to this: A very productive off season in preparation for 2012.
The Cowboys absolutely no problems at all. Free Agency… here the Cowboys come!

one small quibble Scandrick
the reason the Cap was 123 million was because Dallas used the 3 million veteran exemption allowed by the CBA….
That is replaced by a 1.5 million Exemption this year, so unless the Cap is reconfigured(unlikely) it will probably be a 121.5 “base cap”
other than that good breakdown

also add in the fact Dallas will save 4 mill if they cut tnew.. thats a above average FA we can sign right there
We can sign probably 1 top FA and 2 decent agents for depth..

Reports
They say that we had roughly a $10 Million hit last season and should face a $20 Million hit in 2012 SOURCE. This was configured though before Gurode was released. However I have also heard that we had $23 Million in dead money this year, meaning that we may have rolled a lot of the dead money over from next year to this year to allow us more cap room.
This really is just touchy information that no one else knows except for the front office, so really is almost useless to discuss it because we really don’t know how they have worked everything out. We can only hope that we have enough space to be at least a threat to make some big moves for free agents and things.

this is my thoughts on it
I think we can afford Robinson and one big signing in free agency, but thats about it

Carl nicks
"I still feel like I have something to offer, and the cynical fan can really kiss my ass. I really don’t care. There’s a bunch of true fans and the people who actually want to take the time to get to know me know who I am. The guy who sits in his mom’s basement and types on his mom’s computer, I couldn’t really care less about." - Chipper Jones
My educated guess:
Based on something I saw a while back on Internet:
— I think we have about 90 million in salary committed so far for next year.
—We can save at least 3 or 4 million by cutting TNew.
—We have about 20 million in dead money (but also about 15 million in carryover since we were 15 mill under the cap last season)….. for a net effect of -5 million.
So that puts us around 90 million now. If we assume a 121.5 million cap, that means we have…..
More than 30 million to spend on draft picks, free agents, and trades.
Therefore, it is not impossible that we could afford Mario Williams or Carl Nicks or Laurent Robinson or Kyle Orton or some combination of them.
But this is just an educated guess on my part. We could also restrucutre contracts, so I think the 1st commenter had it about right when he quoted Jones.
Just don't get your hopes up
They might try to go under the cap so that when the tv contracts are redone and the cap jumps significantly, we have a lot of carry over as well as the jump and then have space to do all sorts of things whether it be re-signing veterans or free agents. I think 2013 is the year we will start to see this team not being in rebuilding mode anymore

I thought you had Newman's value correct
TN,Ball and Marty B gots to go.
If the Cowboys decide to part ways with Terrence Newman, which is very likely to occur, the Cowboys will have $7 more.
Any chance we can get some more money by restructuring some of our veterans contracts?
