What has Jerry done since Free Agency and the salary cap was instituted in 1993?
He has done nothing. Yes, the Cowboys won super bowl XXX two seasons later but it was with a majority of players that were already on the team before free agency and just a few FA signings, most notably Deion.
There are only 15 Giants that played in the last super bowl match up and only 7 Patriots. That means there are 38 NEW Giants and 46 NEW Patriots since then.
Think about that. 38 and 46 NEW players in just 4 off seasons and both teams are back in the super bowl. And the Giants made the playoffs 2 times in those 4 seasons and the Patriots 3 of 4 seasons.
What is the difference between the Cowboys and these 2 teams? Jerry. He does not know how and cannot handle the free agency and salary cap rules. The 3 super bowl victories were achieved with a team that was built pre-free agency and salary cap.

Or maybe those teams are run really well?
Both of them have the same front office, QB, and HC. Consistency. Repeat Superbowl Teams since ’93 going off my head..
Denver, GB, NYG, NE, PITT, STL, any one else?
Either way why is Jerry judged as an Owner/GM on an arbitrary timeline "since 93 or 96 or 2000 etc etc. "

That is my point. Those teams are run well and the Cowboys are not run well by Jerry.
And if you bothered to read the shot, you will see that “since ’93” is not arbitrary. That was the year that a new CBA was signed changing the way the entire NFL could be run including the beginning of Free Agency and a salary cap that did not exist before.
Since ‘95-96 is also not arbitrary because that is when a lot of the player’s pre-Free Agency/salary cap contracts started expiring and forced Jerry to start being a GM under the new rules.
In the 17 seasons from 1966-1982, the Cowboys went at least to the conference championship game 14 times. In the 16 seasons from 1996-2011, the Cowboys have won 2 wild card games.
No it really is.
Judge Jerry the Owner during his whole tenure or not at all.

Are you serious?
The fundamental rules of the game changed with the 1993 CBA. It is completely reasonable and even logical to compare and contrast performance before and after that CBA.
If you cannot see that then we have no more reason to debate it. We’ll just disagree.

How about Jerry the GM?
I think he was GM inname only while Jimmy Johnson was here, so the credit for those teams belongs to Johnson.
But let’s say I am full of crap. Let’s say it was Jerry breaking down college game film, combing through scouting reports, the works, and Jimmy was just a know nothing figurehead. My position, assuming that is the the case is that Jerry Jones has done squadoosh since that time. The game has totally passed him by, and he should be put out to pasture to chew his cud.
Anyone want to argue that?

Jerry needs to hire a GM.
Even though that will never happen, I will not sit here and shut up. Every time Jerry displays his incompetence as a GM, I will point it out.

Read my sig.
When the Cowboys start doing well in the playoffs CONSISTENTLY again, I will acknowledge him.

Free Agency killed our Dynasty
I remember it well. It was like a slow moving car wreck. And we never recovered.
Jerry killed our Dynasty by not being able to deal with Free Agency as our GM.

What's your point?

There are only 13 Cowboys still on the roster that lost in the 2007 divisional round to the Giants. That means there are 40 NEW Cowboys since then.
What’s your point?

Already asked that.
I don’t know, but even if there are as few as 7 or 15, are the newbies good enough? Or the right ones to win with as a team?
The point is that the Giants and Pats have 38 and 46 new players on their teams that their FO did a good job obtaining and maintained their teams at a high level. And Jerry cannot do that.

As bigham quoted me from another post:
my point is that those teams turnover that many players and no one even notices, let alone calls them rebuilding. They make it back to the super bowl. We turn over that many and people say “we need 1 or 2 more good drafts” and some call us rebuilding.
My point is look at that difference and ask yourself the same question that Jerry was asked: “what is the difference between the Giants and the Cowboys?” His answer was something about surrounding Romo with better players. I agree, and I blame Jerry for being too egotistical and stubborn to realize he is not a good GM.
And @ bigham: by answering OCC for me, does that mean you are starting to agree with me?
