Re-drafting the 2006 NFL draft class
Interesting article from ESPN showing how so many blue chip prospects in the first round ultimately do not pan out and also how many lower round picks wind up being some of the best players from the draft class.
I'm not by any means saying the Cowboys should trade down but if the player they covet is not there and they decide to trade down I won't have any problem with it.

With the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, The Dallas Cowboys select...
LB, Bobby Carpenter from Ohio State University…..
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
"The tone is business," Garrett said. "Let's get to work. The Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands on Sunday at 4:15. They're an awfully good football team. We have to get ready for them."

seriously i remmeber that pick i thought it was like bill picked him for no reason other than he had the pick
i don’t know why they didn’t trade down or something
I was ready for Cromartie, Hali, Joseph, or Mankins
Jesus, never did I expect that piece of garbage.
I almost chucked my Coke at my friend’s tv; he’s a Chargers fan and I knew the Chargers would take him. I just went for a walk after that, I come back in, and next thing I see, we take Anthony Fasano. At that point he asked me, should we just play Madden? I said I just wanted to go home.

yeah i remember that too
actually it was mocked a lot just because of that but i thought bill was smarter than that, i was wrong, i really got the feeling he just wasn’t sure about what to do with the pick, he took barbie because inertia or something like that
Nepotism at it's finest

Mario Willams was the best player in that draft. I don’t care what Kiper is going on about.
In any case we should stop busting on Bobby Carpenter.
He would have been a pro bowler
IF
Alex Barron was blocking him on every play.
that's cold blooded

God that pick was terrible. The more you think about it the worse it gets.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
Yep
That pick was so terrible that I think the Cowboys ought to never just accept their draft status again.
Never stay in your draft spot always trade up or trade down.
If DeCastro / Coples is there take him.
I would even trade up a little for Coples
Otherwise trade down.
But exactly the Bobby Carpenter pick was so bad that I think the Cowboys ought to never just accept the draft as it is again.

I called the Bobby Carpenter pick
not that I wanted him so please don`t blame me. Actually I had a nice run.
Called Ware
Carpenter
Spencer
Felix
Jason Williams
so 5 yrs in a row the Cowboys first selection in the draft was called by me.
last yr I flipped and flopped between Tyron and Costanzo before flopping wrong.
be prepared to be wrong two years in a row
