Sturm's Detailed Analysis of the O line Play This Season, Player by Player
Very revealing discussion of the deterioration of the Cowboys O line play as the season progressed (with an aside on how much better the Giants line was playing later in the season). Not a surprise, of course.
If reliable stats could be had on pressures and hits on the QB, this would likely look even worse.

I would resign Holland
that will be a cheap contract for a solid player
I got on him all preseason, but when he came back in shape, his game totally changed
I want Holland back here next year as a depth guy at the very least
kuods to Montrae Holland, he never gave up on his life long dream and worked his butt off to get back into shape
really I think the fans should recognized him more for what he did
total RKG

That's Fine
Training Camp doesn’t start until late July/early August. 6 months from his Dec 30 surgery means he should be ready to start practicing one full month prior to TC start. What I’m more worried about then him practicing is him staying in shape. He has a nasty habit of gaining weight and getting out of shape over the offseason. He has major self-discipline issues and its got him cut from 3 different teams (including this one last summer).
I’d give him a 1 year contract and allow him to compete for a starting role with Arkin…hopefully after we sign a FA OG or draft one.

Despite all the O-line chaos....
Romo had one of his best seasons. Imagine what he can do if he can have a couple of more seconds each time he dropped back.
Great Article
If Romo is the key to our success, we seriously need to be giving him more protection
Why is it that Doug Free could block Julius Peppers and Mario Williams no problem in 2010?
I have been saying it over and over again Free just isn’t the same player.
Free was a super talented tackle , easily athletic enough to play LT,
There is something wrong with Free and it is not athletic ability or talent.
I have heard Free has back problems and I believe it to be the case.
Why do you believe it? They announced every other injury this year. No secrets on
Kosier or Nagy or Costa when they were injured.
cause he has the kind of injury that might not really get better.

Talking about sacks might be interesting...
but consistency, or frequency, of protection is the main issue. Brady, Manning, etc get sacked one play, but get 6 seconds the next. It is the constant hurry and limited time Romo deals with play after play that keeps this offense from being explosive like other teams. After 6 games this last season, a took a random sample of Brady and Romo pass plays. Brady had 4 or more seconds before he had to move or throw in 43% of his sample pass plays. Romo had that much time in 21% of pass plays. Brady at that point was on pace for over 6 thousand yards. That doesn’t even count the plays where Brady moved somewhere else and once again stood while surveying the field. The numbers the Cowboys put up this year show just how great the skill positions are in Dallas. Saint’s offensive line is outrageous—it’s unfair. :)

as the U.D.D.F.A.:
(Unofficial Deputy Director of Fanpost Affairs), I here by Authorized the use of the Fanpost Area to expound on this idea…
In other words:
FanPost man!!!
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.

Be glad to
but as I am not aware of anyone who does “time to survey/throw stats”, doing such stats on my own was very time consuming. Just doing samples of 200 plays took quite awhile. Statistics by agencies only consist of pressures, sacks, knockdowns, etc. If anyone knows of actual positive stats sources, such as time to throw before pressures and sacks, please let me know.
I think that Coty Saxman
was wanting to do something similar….maybe if you too combined your Efforts, it would reduse the Work load, and you could use the results individually…..

Fanpost or no
this is an excellent point, and one several of us have made in the past, but without any sort of data. Thanks LG.
Don't believe everything you think.
Thanks for posting this Fernie
when I read others talking about how bad the Giants’ line was, this is a great read to put it into perspective. :ate in the season, when they need to make a push. their line played well, while Dallas’ line did the opposite. And the results are correspondingly clear.
Don't believe everything you think.
