The Cowboys are in renovation mode. It's a step above rebuilding. We want to get older regressing players out, while we add in new players along the way. The only difference from rebuilding is the Cowboys actually are attempting to win during this time. They're in an awkward position. We have guys from the Parcells era that are on their way to regressing within the next 2-3 years. Our window is closing. If it was even ever open in the first place. We have young talent, but not enough to be a contender. We also lack the role players. I broke down our team into five categories. On their way out, Edge of their prime, Pieces to build around, Pending pieces, and The rest.
On Their Way Out :
Goes without saying. These players need to either go or play less than they already are. They're on their last leg of their careers. They were a good service, but it's time to let them walk.
Edge Of Their Prime :
The production is still there. It can possibly be there for the next 2-3 years pending regression/injury. These guys are either on the wrong side of 30 or getting close to it.
Pieces to Build Around :
The younger group that we're building around. These guys are surely going to be a big part of the teams success in the near future.
Pending Pieces :
Can possibly be in the group above, but either injuries, lack of effort, or both are stopping them. Will they be booms or busts?
The Rest :
The role players needed to fill out the team. We don't know who though.
Key Needs :
Have a fun NFL playoffs!
