Remember when Jerry was surrepitously taped saying in 2009 how Tim Tebow wouldn't sniff the field if he were a Cowboy? Well, Tebow just dethroned the defending AFC Champs in his first ever playoff game, chalking up 366 yards of offense and 3 TDs. I'm not saying that Tebow should replace Romo, but...uh...well...wait - this is an anti-Jerry rant, and today was just another reminder that HE SUCKS as a GM.

If you think Tim Tebow is a consistent quarter back, or that his production compares to Romo

you should really reconsider that thought.

Tim Tebow would not sniff the field in Dallas, and I don’t see anything wrong with Jerry Jones having said that.

Yeah its not like he was wrong...

Tebow wouldn’t see the field here at all barring injuries to Romo and Kitna at the same time. It took orton for him to get a chance, plus having that D doesn’t hurt. Romo would be playing next week if we had the bronco’s defense.

by Joe M. on Jan 8, 2012 8:49 PM CST reply actions

The Denver defense couldn't stop the Steelers in the 2nd half

save for the last drive in regulation…

Don’t forget the GREAT Broncos defense that obviously carried the team into the playoffs all by itself allowed 40+ points on four separate occasions and created just 18 turnovers, worse than even the Cowboys.

by DavidH22 on Jan 9, 2012 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, Denver's D is ranked 20th in the league.

Yet you see people talking about them like they’re the 85 Bears just to avoid giving the young Qb some credit for turning that 1-4 team around.

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

I've always maintained the comment that this guy is not Brady or Manning and never will be.

I’m simply saying he’s found ways to effect several games very positively with big plays on the ground or in the air, most games limiting turnovers, and keeping drives alive with third down scrambles. It’s not conventional, it’s not pretty (except the Pitt game where it was amazing) but he’s getting results and looks to be improving as most young players do.

What I don’t understand is folks who can’t seem to acknowledge he brings anything to the table, or that as a young guy who works that he’ll improve at all, simply because, for example, he has a low completion percentage. Like no young Qb has ever improved their completion percentage over their first few years in the league before.

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 5:12 PM CST up reply actions

I hate Jerry as much as the next guy, but it's not like he was disrespecting Tebow when he said that.

Tebow legitimately wouldn’t have a place here. He’d be blocked by Romo who isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

so he would have traded up for him, he either would have NOT gotten Dez Bryant or Sean Lee … I’ll stick with those 2.

OK. And?

he was wrong on a guy. Big deal. No GM is perfect.

I don’t wanna defend Jerry as a GM, but trying to say he sucks as a GM by pointing to Tebow isn’t a valid argument. It’s easy to say “you missed on Tebow” without giving him credit for finding guys like Jay Ratliff and Miles Austin. I saw everyone complaining when Sean Lee was drafted … who’s complaining now?

All Jerry said was "he'd never get on the field" and that's true.

Dallas had no need for Tebow because we’ve already got a fine QB under Center.

What’s more concerning about that vid is that Jerry thinks Bill Parcells was not worth a sh!t. Bill wasn’t perfect but his time here seemed to definitely be a part of Dallas making some positive changes at the time.

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 12:25 AM CST reply actions

Like I said in the game thread last night, Jerry wasn't trashing Tebow.

Like the other posters here have said, he simply stated we wouldn’t be drafting him as he wouldn’t see the field here. Why wouldn’t he? Well, we already have a franchise QB, a solid vet backup and a young guy in training at that time.
But it seems you don’t want facts, just to try and either stir crap up, or dis Jerry no matter what the truth is.

by Rena on Jan 9, 2012 4:27 AM CST reply actions

Jerry is absolutely correct

That performance by Tebow was obviously an aberration, he’ll probably never have another 300 yard passing game in his career.

Steelers secondary just sucks almost as much as ours and as a matter of fact if it wasn’t for Polamalu, their secondary would suck worse than ours.

In Romo we Trust

I think you and I see Tebow about the same.

I’ll give the devil his due, he had a lights out game at least for him against the Steelers. I don’t see him doing it against NE, but their D. does suck, so who knows. IMO he’s not a NFL caliber QB, but time will tell. Not to make excues, but Denver caught Pit. at a good time, Big Ben playing on one leg and half their starters on D. out.

Tebow sure looked like an NFL quarterback last night.

He makes some errant throws, sure. But the kid is for real. I can’t believe Dallas fans, in particular, would still say this about the kid. It reminds me of the “Romo is a choker” argument. It doesn’t make sense.

If you read my post, I gave him his due.

In the long run I don’t see him being a good QB in the NFL. There has been a lot of luck with some of his wins, that can’t last forever. I see some posters saying I’d rather be lucky than good, not me, luck runs out much quicker than good. I understand Tebow is fun to watch and people love an underdog, but I wouldn’t want to depend on him as a starting QB for the long run on my team. I don’t think Elway does either, he’s way smarter than that.

I read it, I read it...

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to argue your opinion. That’s yours. I’m just stating the stark contrasting reality in defense of when you wrote,

“IMO he’s not a NFL caliber QB, but time will tell.”

What more does a guy have to do to prove that?
He is the starting QB for the Denver Broncos under the eye of John Elway. He just so happened to lead his team to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers and their #1 (number one) rated pass defense. He was playing with a sub-par receiving corps. It’s for added effect that it was his first playoff game ever, and that it happened to go in to Over Time, which he ends on the first play. hahaha C’mon man!!
Yes, he plays behind a pretty good defense, no doubt.
You can even call it a fluke, fine. I’m not going to argue uncertainties.
But Tim Tebow is most certainly an NFL QB. And an entertaining one, for sure.

His 47 % completion percentage says that he is something less than a traditional NFL Caliber QB, that is for sure

The guy is exciting to watch, but if you were the Cowboys GM, and Denver called you in the offseason and said “Straight up trade, Romo for Tebow” would you do it? If not, why not?

What a load of rubbish Terry.

Why was it “obviously an aberration”? Don’t worry I don’t expect a substantial answer here.

he’ll probably never have another 300 yard passing game in his career.

Hahaha, that game was only Tebow’s 15th start in his NFL career and you’re saying he’ll never have another 300 yard game ever? No chance that like most young QB’s that he might improve with time and off-season work?

Steelers secondary just sucks almost as much as ours

If it wasn’t obvious that logic left Terry’s post long ago this statement should make it abundantly clear. You think the NFL’s number 1 defence has a secondary no better than ours. It’s bizarre to me what nonsensical lengths people will go to to avoid saying something they emotionally don’t wish to admit. In this case that Tebow played a very, very good game against the leagues number 1 defence in the playoffs.

Saying that doesn’t mean you think Tebow’s going to be Manning or Brady it just means the guy had a great game and is showing improvement as a young QB. Why is that so hard to admit for some people?

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 4:23 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with you: it's not an aberration

Tebow still completed less than 50% of his passes. That’s pretty normal for him.

by Admiral Dallas on Jan 9, 2012 4:58 PM CST up reply actions

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

Absolutely no connection to my central point throughout this thread. As a young Qb he’s shown some impressive plays and performances, something people seem near obsessed with denying. Has it been very inconsistent, absolutely not. But please let’s line up all the young Qb’s in NFL history who came out the gates and consistently ripped apart NFL defenses. That’s a very, very small list and a lot of great Qb’s aren’t on it..

What normally happens with promising young Qb’s is that they show flashes of their potential but are very inconsistent: Tebow fits that mold well. What also normally happens is that people expect them to show improvement over their first few years especially if the Qb is regarded as having a strong work ethic like Tebow has.

But that simple logic gets thrown out the window with Tebow. No young raw Qb can ever improve his play, his knowledge, his consistency, his completion percentage. Never has happened, never will happen, I’m delusional.

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 5:28 PM CST up reply actions

Correction
Has it been very inconsistent, absolutely not.

That is of course meant to be “has it been very consistent, absolutely not”.

by Luke. on Jan 9, 2012 5:30 PM CST up reply actions

How about some facts Terry?

This was Tebow’s 2nd 300 yard game in 15 career starts, throwing to likes of Eric Decker and Eddie Royal. It would probably be more if he had the pleasure of throwing to Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Pittsburgh’s 2011 pass defense was #1 in the NFL, allowing just 54% and barely 10 yards completion. Yeah…that’s about as bad as the Cowboys pass defense.

Sometimes your arguments are just embarrassing.

Yeah, Tebow's not an NFL calibre quarterback

those suckers in Denver, making the playoffs and winning playoff games…when will they ever learn?

by DavidH22 on Jan 9, 2012 4:31 PM CST reply actions

The Patriots may run a clinic on the overrated Denver defense

but I imagine the Broncos offense will be productive against the terrible Patriots defense, as they were a few weeks ago (446 yards of offense and 23 points).

I also imagine that, given an off-season without a lockout and as the undisputed starting quarterback, and maybe with a better receiver added or two, Tebow and the offense will improve in 2011. Whether or not that means making the playoffs or not remains to be seen.

Besides, what does “not making the playoffs” mean to you? The Cowboys haven’t made the playoffs in 3 of the last 4 seasons, in case you haven’t noticed.

by DavidH22 on Jan 10, 2012 8:40 AM CST up reply actions

He wouldn't sniff the field

but he’d taste it alot behind our line.

Can he play safety?

by Leon on Jan 9, 2012 5:35 PM CST reply actions

Go back and watch that Steelers game

That nothing special o-line gave Tebow a ton of time. Now, maybe that line was helped by the fact that several of the starters on the Steelers’ d-line were out, but that would imply that Denver’s performance on offense was bolstered by a poor performance on the part of the Steelers’ defense.

by Grimlock83 on Jan 10, 2012 8:47 AM CST up reply actions

One play does not a better O-line make

The Broncos O-line gave up 42 sacks in 2011 in just 429 pass attempts, which would be like the Cowboys O-line giving up 55 sacks, and the Cowboys O-line at least has a couple recent and future Pro Bowlers. Not sure if the Bronocs have any such linemen…

I know Mallett was said to sniff somthing else

but the Boys passed him up when they could have got him cheap.

Now I’m not saying he is the future but he is better than McGee and we could trade him down the line like the Pats will. They will get about what the Eagles got for Kolb.

One of Jerry’s problems is he always tells who he wants to draft so trading up or down becomes more difficult to do.

Love the Grim Reaper comment!

Look…I wasn’t saying that Jones should have drafted Tebow, just that his general dismissal of Tebow as an NFL player was indicative of his incompetence as a talent evaluator specifically. The only thing that Jerry has going in his favor on this topic is that many NFL scouts and GMs probably felt (and maybe still feel) that way about Tebow.

by DavidH22 on Jan 10, 2012 8:33 AM CST up reply actions

Jerry talks a lot

but says nothing. Why diss Tebow anyways?

by ziggy19 on Jan 10, 2012 8:39 AM CST up reply actions

He didn't diss Tebow, as many of us have responded to Dav and said.

Jerry simply said that Tebow wouldn’t see the field as a Cowboy and we wouldn’t draft him.
That is very true. We had Romo, Kitna and McGee was our new 2nd year developmental QB at that draft time. Why would we draft Tebow and blow a draft pick when we were set at QB?

by Rena on Jan 11, 2012 6:25 PM CST up reply actions

I'm calling BS on him ever doing that.

His ego won’t allow him to.

There’s no looking in the mirror about it. Hire a GM and get out of the football people’s way that you hire to make the football decisions for your football team like every other owner in sports does. It’s not that difficult of a concept.

Reading the comments in that story...

This is what our team has become.

I enjoy my football Sundays watching Dallas implode. I’d miss Jerry squirming in his seat as Romo throws another huge pick 6. I enjoy the so called "AMERICA’S TEAM" die a slow death. I love watching Jerry on the sideline AS HIS ULTRA EGO; MICRO GM MANAGEMENT STYLE STENCH permeates the Cowboy sideline. I love it when the TV camera shows Jerry prancing his STUPIDITY to the national TV audience. Most billionaires flaunt their wealth. Mr. Plastic clown face flaunts his arrogance & his blessed stupidity. I find this the best sports reality show on TV!!!!

That’s how our once great franchise is now viewed by the majority of football fans. And you know what? They’re right. This buffoon has got to go. He is an embarrassment.

Tebow is certainly polarizing

but I don’t think his example shows that Jerry blows as a GM (there is plenty of other examples for that). I myself would certainly never aim to build the future of my team around an offense like the one that Denver is running.

Ummmm... yeah...

I think every GM was saying that about Tebow except maybe the one in Denver when he was drafted by McDaniels. Moot…
