NFP Grades Alabama CB D'Andre Kirkpatrick... as a SS...
Wes Bunting has given his review for D'Andre (Dre) Kirkpatrick of Alabama. He normally doesn't do this until an underclassman has declared though. I haven't found anything stating that but he may have a good source. We may find out after tonight's BCS Championship match. Anyway, he gives Dre an 8.0, joining 6 other players (Luck, Claiborne [whom I also can't find an article saying he has declared yet...], Richardson, Decastro, Konz and Kalil) with an 8.0 rating or higher. What I found interesting is that he is listed as a SS on the board, but no mention is made of the position transition in the article, although he does make a case that he is at his best in zone coverage.

NFP rankings are strange. They don’t even have Luke Kuechly rated yet.

I think it’s because he only does the juniors after they declare, and Kuechly only declared a few days ago.

Wes Bunting usually doesn't write or scout Juniors until they declare

Please be kidding

Hopefully
Give me Dre all day. We already had Pacman, we dont need another idiot. Plus garret would never want Jenkins, and I think jerry would listen.

Have to agree
I agree due to J. Jenkins having a scouting report saying that he has character concerns & needs to bulk up. Sounds like the WKG.

love his height and size too
it’ll help us out a lot against larger WRs

Not so sure.
Looking at 2010 (when Jenkins was at Florida, and Dre was a sophomore) they only had one elite receiver faced in common and that would be Alshon Jeffery. Now, looking at Jeffery’s stat line, you would assume that Jenkins is much better considering Jeffery had 127 yards against Alabama and only 53 against Florida. What’s telling though is that if you watch the completions to Jeffery against Alabama, only two came against Kirkpatrick (I don’t count screen passes as completions that are on the CB). One was a slant and one was a one-handed catch and run by Jeffery where Kirkpatrick is in nearly perfect position. I think they are pretty similar in talent (Jenkins had 3 or 4 completions against him against Jeffrey). I don’t know if I would feel comfortable taking Jenkins at #14 though with his off-the-field stuff. Then again, Cam Newton got kicked off of Florida and look how that turned out.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
I think the combine will be telling. If Kirkpatrick runs a 4.5 and a good short shuttle with his height
I think he has to be the pick. His skill set is that of Nnamdi’s except that he may be better in zone coverage.

Dre now listed as a Cornerback
his rating now has dropped to 7.5 on the NFP ratings from the 8.0 he was listed at as a Strong Safety

I still want him.
I just dont know if he will fall that far. I agree with a post I think by KD earlier, theres good interior OL depth in this draft and you can get a good guy to play next year in the 2nd. I really want that 14th pick to be a top CB. I’d rather try to pick up a decent pass rusher or two in FA that pick over a relatively weak FA CB class.
I would love to have him too
However I would like Morris Claiborne more. Both will be gone by the time we select though. If you want one of them, a trade up will probably be required.

Yeah I'd likely take Claiborne over Dre
If they were both available, which they won’t be. I wonder if Jerry can call in some favors and move up into the 7-9 range. I’d be so happy..
Word on the Street
Claiborne isn’t making it past the redskins…

I think Dennard is better than all of them.
Dude has a lot of “Revis” about him. Good build. Physical as hell, good feet, good hips, locates the ball, flies up in run support. I think he’ll run the slowest 40 of those guys but ultimately be the best player.

If he had a lot of Revis about him
then he would be #1 amongst the corners

I didnt say he was as good as Revis.
Im just saying thats his style of play. You know how much changes between January and April. The pecking order amongst these guys could totally flop amongst these guys. Revis himself was a #14 pick. Still the first corner off the board that year, but if people could have forseen his greatness he wouldnt have lasted that long.
Im just saying Dennard’s style reminds me of Revis.

The reason Revis lasted that long
is because people could never see his cover skills because he never let anyone across the line of scrimmage. They expected that would change in the NFL but it didn’t. I don’t think they will make that same mistake again and I don’t hear the same stuff about Dennard. I actually saw one game of his (as I was trying to watch so many others) and he didn’t look to put as much effort into each play and be as physical as people give him credit for. To me I saw a lot of 2010 Jenkins giving up on plays and stuff…
