In Thursday injury news, it looks unlikely that DeMarco Murray will play on Sunday. While he did some rehab work on the side during practice yesterday, he didn't practice with the team. It's unclear at this point when Murray will be back on the field, and Todd Archer from ESPNDallas points out that Murray's injury was a lot worse than many fans had assumed:
But what people need to remember is that this was a significant injury. Murray came within a whisker of having his season end because of ligament damage to his foot. He was close to needing major surgery and prolonged rehabilitation.
The Cowboys practiced without their two centers on Wednesday and Thursday. Phil Costa is still working to get his ankle into playing shape and Ryan Cook sat out with a sore knee on both days, but he expects to play against the Browns. While the two were out, Kevin Kowalski shared first-team snaps at center with Mackenzy Bernadeau, and said he's ready to return to action if the Cowboys need him this week. The team would have to activate Kowalski from the PUP by Saturday if they want him to play on Sunday.
Lawrence Vickers (knee) was limited in practice, as was John Phillips, whose name popped up on the injury report after he suffered an ankle injury.
Dan Connor (neck) was a ful participant in practice and will likely active on Sunday, as will Jay Ratliff, although Ratliff already played last Sunday despite an ankle injury.
Mike Jenkins (back), Matt Johnson (hamstring) and Sean Lissemore (ankle) also did not participate in practice.
Not on the injury report but hurt nonetheless is Danny Coale. The practice squad receiver may have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during special teams drills yesterday, and is scheduled for an MRI today to confirm the diagnosis. That's really tough news for the rookie who had missed most of training camp with a fractured foot and also had to battle hamstring issues.
The most significant injury news from the Browns camp is that CB Joe Haden missed practice on Thursday due to an oblique injury he suffered during Wednesday's practice.
