Twas the night before Christmas…wait wrong story! Christmas Day I took my folks to my Sister’s for an afternoon dinner. She is a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan like I am. Her husband is a long time Redskins (and anybody but Dallas) fan. My sister found this Washington Redskins Checkers set and was assured that the opposing team was the Dallas Cowboys and therefore HAD to buy it for her hubby. He’s really a great guy (except for his choice in NFL Football Teams.) We live in NC which was Redskin territory (with a ton of Dallas fans sprinkled in) LONG BEFORE anyone ever heard of the Carolina Panthers, I’m sure many know.
Shortly after we arrived, I noticed the checkers set out where he had played his 22 year old son. " Oh how cool!" I exclaimed – I mean it, it really is a cool idea for checkers, Cowboys v. Redskins! NFL competition, on top of the already strategic game.
The face masks detach and are used to signify a crowned piece when attached. They called it "Vet me" – as in Veterans. Kills resulted in "Get that Rookie off the field."
So we were talking smack about our teams and the upcoming games, good natured of course. My brother-in-law challenged me to a game. I told him I hadn’t played in ages but it sounded like fun. I’d play 1 game. The idea of Cowboys v. Redskins and the NFL Helmet pieces made it seem a lot more interesting. Now he is a smart guy, and I consider myself a smart guy. We are both competitive both wanting to have fun, but both wanting to win.
So was this Christmas Cowboys v. Redskins Checkers Game foretelling for our Team’s outcome against the Redskins and RG III?Did I do our BOYS proud! I HOPE SO! Look at the picture closely. He conceded at that point because every move he made from there would result in a loss of his remaining Rookies and I was going to end up with 3 Veterans and 4 Rookies left on the field.
COWBOYS WIN BIG!! Just a little fun and holiday fair I thought I’d share with my fellow BTBers! GO COWBOYS!!
