Raiders Denied Interview with Coach Joe D
The Oakland Raiders were denied permission to interview Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis for an assistant head coaching position, according to a source.
Recently hired Raiders coach Dennis Allen worked with DeCamillis in Atlanta from 2002-to-2005 where a good relationship formed. Dan Reeves, DeCamillis' father-in-law, was the head coach with the Falcons at that time.

yeah this
I thought denying permission was like a huge no no.

I think it's seen as more of a "no no"
because teams who think they’ll generally be denied position just don’t ask for it in the first place.

I think it may be payback
I thought last year when Ryan came in and wanted to interview some assistants that the Raiders denied them last year.
You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four. Dan Birdwell. Oakland Raiders
How do you want to be rememberd. Go out there and play every play like it is your last play. Be remembered as the person you want to be for the rest of your life. Spike Dykes, Midland Lee and Texas Tech Coach.
I believe the rule states that permission is not required unless it is a lateral move
So I am not sure that the assistant head coach job thing has 100% validity. But then again I think that it needs to be a COMPLETE upgrade to not need permission, like dbacks coach to D coordinator or coordinator to head coach, etc.

yeah the NFL stance
is that Assisstant HC is nothing – there are HCs, special teams coordinators, OCs, DCs, and then their support staff; 3 tiers of hierarchy on the ends that matter and that’s about it. Rarely are people fighting over position coaches

I think if Al Davis were alive this wouldn't of happened
but lately most teams don’t take “Assistant HC” as a sign of career advancement
