Making the case for Mark Barron
to After watching the tape of many of the targets Dallas is considering I've come to the conclusion that Mark Barron is the direction this team needs to go get to the next level.
Cases can be made for DeCastro, Upshaw, and even Janoris Jenkins but none of those guys possess what Barron does. Barron is going to be the type of leader that we haven't had since Darren Woodson. He's a violent hitter that also excels in coverage. As we've seen for the last decade or so, good safeties are far and few between. If our Cowboys continue to pass over elite safeties we will continue to be mired in mediocrity. How many times do we pass over once in a generational talent in guys like Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu? It's time to stop ignoring Safeties.
DeCastro does help our offensive line, but not our defense. What many of you don't understand is you stay relevant defensively. That's why Baltimore and Pittsburgh have been playoff teams for the last decade. If we want to set our team up for success long term it's time we stop making moves to help us offensively. We've had offensive talent for years and what has it gotten us?
The fact that 2 of our top 3 wrs we found off the street speaks volumes (Laurent Robinson, Miles Austin). You can get great offensive players in the middle and later rounds (Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray are both 3rd rounders). Most of all, our Qb was an undrafted Free Agent.
You can't fill defensive spots with late round draft picks and guys off the street. So forget about the injury and draft Mark Barron at 14 - it will pay dividends immediately.

Do his 2 sports hernia's come with him?
"If you are prepared, you will be confident, and will do the job." Tom Landry
"The difference between extraordinary and ordinary, is that little extra". Jimmy Johnson
The top two free agent CBs were very late picks
Finnegan (7th round)
B. Carr (5th round, I think, but it could be even lower)
Defensive players can be found late and FA just as easily as offensive players. Barron is not Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu. Barron is not even a young Roy Williams. I watched every game of RWs sophmore and junior seasons in college and he was amazing…. tons and tons of picks, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, crazy big hits. He would take a turnover to the house with regularity, also. It’s a shame he couldn’t continue to play at 215-225 lbs instead of 235-240. Ed Reed was in college at the same time and I remember seeing his weekly highlights on ESPN——amazing as well. These guys had something and it was plainly evident to coaches, fans, scouts, whomever.
Barron isn’t close to those guys but I think he can be solid.
After saying that, I would still like to have Barron in the 2nd round or late first. I just don’t feel like he belongs at a 14.
lol I just wrote an entire article about this
Anthony Spencer is not the Egg McMuffin of 3-4 OLB's

I second the 2nd
I too like him as our 2nd pick. I don’t think he is worth a 14th, especially with the injury, which is why he may slip to us in the second a la bruce carter and sean lee.
As always, the last 5 minutes of your life are non-refundable.
Is he the next Kenny Phillips?
If yes, then zzzzzzzzz.
But if he’s the next Darren Woodson, then yes go get him.
The folks who look at game film don’t seem to agree.
I disagree
I’m studying up under wes bunting and he has him in his top 20…. But you have to realize that good safeties are far and few between. Outside of Barron and markelle Martin there isn’t another serviceable safety in this draft… So you do what you have to to get your guy… If that means picking at 14 then so be it

Agree with you a great safety is rare, as much as a QB
But if you choice is …
Barron v. Elam
or
Ingram v. Butler
or
Kirkpatrick v. Ball
or
DeCastro v. Holland
… then you choose Barron?
What if we can get Landry or Griffin in FA? Do you still want Barron?
I think
People are looking at raw numbers and not the football player… When you take barrons acquired ability+athletic ability you get a great player… His mental upside is exceptional having played for nick saban… He’s got great size and appears to be a 4.55 guy.. Other than chia how many games of barrons have you all evaluated?

Every single snap he played in College, most 4 or 5 times each
You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four. Dan Birdwell. Oakland Raiders
How do you want to be rememberd. Go out there and play every play like it is your last play. Be remembered as the person you want to be for the rest of your life. Spike Dykes, Midland Lee and Texas Tech Coach.
Boom. Rosted.
Becare with those kinds of claims on this board. You stand before the most talented and impressive collection of cowboys enthusists quite possibltly ever assembled with out pay.
The vast majority of this site, with few exceptions are educated and extreemly well versed some like our very own Birddog do this as there career. Dont be so quick to discount us.
That being said i think everyone agrees that barron is a talent. Even those saying 2nd round are doing so not beacuse of talent, but beacuse of injury. The question is and has been, does Baron deserve a top 15 grade? And if so are we leaving somone on the board who is more talented?
Certianly barron is a R1 safety, however he projects as a SS. Of the two, this is the safety spot we have sone players at. As talented? No probably not, but certianly deeper the situations on the line and at cb.

i think we could find some solid value by trading down 5 or 6 spots
and grabbing barron + an extra second round pick.
barron will not be available the second time around.
Any more and you are getting a cease and desist from chromasters balls inc. - Chromaster

I agree that he wont be in the second round,
But I disagree that we’ll pick up a 2nd to move down 5 or 6 spots. We’d have to move to the mid 20’s to accomplish that, and I dont know if I want to move out of a top 15 spot.
Either way the cowboys should beable to pick a quality player.
according to the draft pick trade calcs
Have to trade down to at least 24 to get a 2d rd pick.

That's good
I certainly respect that as I’ve watched him as much as anyone…. And when I watch him on tape he stands out… I remember People saying jpp and demarius Thomas where bust and wouldn’t be able to play…. But if u get em coached up and watche em yr 2 youll eat your words… Boy was I right… You don’t ever make decisions based on an injury especially a hernia…. Because at the end of the day you want a player to start and be effective for you for 10-12 years not yr 1 out of college

how can you seriously say that Barron is not an impact player, this guy has started at Bama for the past 2 1/2yrs, which the defense is as close as it gets to an NFL team.
Again you talk about stats, but if you have 5 star talent all around you then how do you expect him to make every play. He is the most polished safety in the yrs draft, (next yr, Ray Ray Armstong) and 2 sports hernias only means he gets to play special teams and learn the scheme this yr
I never said i was right, but i aint never wrong
