2012 FA and 1st Round Projection
1. Throw the book at Carl Nicks. He’s an elite player at his position and I’m tired of sub-par players on our offensive line. Let’s face it, we hope our T*LENT at the skill positions will bail us out but at crunch time they can’t block and execute their assignments (I refuse to write that dang T word).
a. Get Ben Grubbs if Nicks doesn’t pan out.
2. This draft is deeper in corners than it is in interior linemen.
3. Draft David DeCastro and make Kowalski and Costa fight for the Center position. Think about how solid the Offensive Lines were for the two teams in the super bowl. Exactly.
a. In my opinion, Kowalski has more fight and plays a bit tougher then Costa. Kowalski filled in nicely for Costa and I think a real offseason with our strength/conditioning team and new o-line coach will help.
4. I like the guys we have now to fill up the NT position (Brent, Lissemore) or go get Paul Soliai from the Dolphins. This will allow Jay Ratliff to move over to DE and I do believe he can give us a bit of "crunch" to the pocket for the pass rush.
5. New secondary coach and a real offseason for Rob Ryan – you have to commit and give it time if you’re going to believe.
6. Franchise Anthony Spencer. Sorry, I don’t think Victor Butler is ready and people need to stop comparing him to DeMarcus Ware.
7. Whatever pieces this team brings to the secondary needs to play with confidence. I think we can do well with Jenkins and Scandrick, they just need a fresh start.

Also Yo want to Sign Grubs or Primarily Nicks, but for the sake of argument Grubs who is cheeper, Not much but still cheaper.
You also want to Franchise Anthony (8+ Mill) Also Solai For the Nose, which is conservatively (5-6mill)
I guess we’re not getting a 3rd Reciver? or resigning Tony Fiametta? or any of our other free agents?
How big do you thing our Cap number is?
If we franchise Anthony we’re not bringing in a high money FA, because he’s it. If we bring in one of the Guards, someplace on our team is going to suffer.
Pats were probably better, but your fooling yourself if you think the giants O line was better.
They played well down the stretch, but there was constant pressure in Eli’s face, they didnt have a single player comparable to Smith, there line was not abysmal but it was not talented by any means.
You've Run Out of Money
Sign Nicks AND franchise Spencer while possibly signing Soliai? There’s your $20M gone right there before you’ve signed any draft picks, before you’ve fixed the safety position, before you’ve shored up the ILB spot, and before you’ve signed a back up QB. You have to make tough choices to fill holes while staying under the cap, which this mock ignores.
It's Ben Grubbs*
Favorite Prospects: Martin, Burfict, Rainey, Curry
Young Linemen on Squad
You know, these guys are basically all the same player. Their measurables are all about on par with one another. What will be interesting to see is which one of these guys was farthest from their peak.
Arkin
Personally, I’m gunning for Arkin. He came from a smallish school with, I’m assuming, facilities, staff, and nutrition programs that were no where near on par with NFL (Much less, Big Mike’s) standards. The guys was a blubber butt (no offense) and was still handling guys in preseason. Finishing blocks like he’s the offensive version of Suh or something. I like it.
Nagy
Obviously a quality backup in this league from the level of play I saw last year. This assesment may seem harsh. But, as a 7th round rookie thrown to the dogs, this evaluation should warm ole Bill’s heart.
Let’s be honest, the guy was just overpowered this year. I like his style. I like his technique(Though, it needs some work). But, most of all, I like the fight he put up this year.
Injury being something that was reaggrivated from his mo-ped accident scares me.
Kowalski
I was not overwelmed or underwelmed with this guys performance. He seemed like he may have been a little more physically and definitely more mentally(See, “I’m gonna plug you in as the starter today Kevin.” Jason Garrett Sept. 2011) ready to play at this level. But, I just don’t see the upside that I do with the other 2.
Brewster
Not impressed. Draft Jake Long’s little brother late and plug him in as the swing tackle. Guy went to a smaller school, but has the pedigree and looked dominant in the East-West game.
OLine Fix?
Kosier does not look like he’ll return next year. Valley Ranch says they want to fill as many holes as we can in FA. Fill this one and I can rest easier knowing that we’re on an even playing field.
Sign Nicks and unless we are completely sure 1 of these guys can make the leap to JAG in his second season and one can be a little more than that you have to draft DeCastro or Konz.
I’m guessing we have about 12 million left over in space after resigning our own.
12 million
-Newman out +4mil
-Contract restructuring (Ware and Free) +5mil
Now we’re at 20/21 mil
-Kosier out +3mil
24 million
-Sign Nicks -7mil
-Sign Solai -5mil
-Sign Vet QB -3mil
-Sign Spencer -5mil
-Sign Fiametta -2mil
2 Million left
1st(a)-Draft DeCastro if he’s there. Trade back to the 20’s if not and get Konz.
1st(b)-Draft Kirkpatrick
2nd(a)-Draft Gilmore/Jenkins/Dennard(Haven’t scout enough to see a real difference here)
2nd(b)-Draft Burfict.
3rd(a)-Draft Joe Adams
3rd(b)-Draft Michael Brewster
4th-Draft Ryan Broyles
5th-Draft Cliff Harris
6th-DL
7th-TE/DL
I would rather the Cowboys not devote so much in to the interior of both lines, and save something to do something about the DeMarcus Ware against the league pass rush and get some outside help rush help preferably at DE
I would fix one OL position in the draft or F/A and we try to get by with what we have for the other two

Also if we keep Spencer we need some outside rush help for him at DE. Williams/ Campbell/ Avril/ Jones or Coples.
Without outside rush help it is not worth it to keep Spencer given the Cowboys have Butler.
