Ok I know, I know this is pure blasphemy. Some will probably read the title and never click on this and move on. That is fine. If someone posts something about baseball that is not my cup of tea. That being said. There are a lot of things that are more similar than you might think between football and futbol aka soccer. In case you didn't know football, soccer, Australian Rules Football, and rugby all come from the same historical game. It's true. We can learn things from each of these sports as it relates to our Cowboys and the NFL. More after the jump.
**Disclaimer** I hate FC Dallas and I realize there are a lot of people that get on this site that are from Dallas. I'd imagine if anyone is a soccer fan FC Dallas would probably be the team you would pick by default. I cheer for Real Salt Lake (RSL).
In case you don't know about MLS, RSL are the MLS equivalent of FC Barcelona. RSL does not spend anywhere near the money that some of the bigger city teams do (Seattle, NY, LA, etc) but they are consistently toward the top of the league and the question is why?
It is simple when you look at it from a team building standpoint. RSL builds everything through the center of the field and their core players. The guys further from the middle are not as important as the guys right in the middle of all the action.
HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO THE COWBOYS!?!?!
Ok I'm getting there.
We need to quit focusing on the outsides so much and worry more about being great through the middle on both sides of the ball first.
Using this logic it makes sense to get a great Center and NT and safety. If you look at any of the many great analysis written about the cheapest players it sure seems like those players go at the heart and core of the teams. The great exception is obviously the QB but we don't have to worry there about that. Romo is fantastic. If we fixed our core we will fix our Cowboys.
Said another way, we first need to clean the inner vessel before we clean the outer vessel.
