The Cordy Glenn Scenario

Been thinking about the very-possible draft scenario that the 2 guys most fans are salivating over (DeCastro by the BPA crowd and Kirkpatrick by the "if we had 1 good CB we'd be a playoff team" crowd) are gone before #14. Where to go in the first round? Let's play what-if ...

In an attempt to cover themselves so as not to reach in the draft, the following are signed in FA. I'm not going to give contract numbers but I ballpark these as taking under (maybe just under) $20 mil in cap space:

  • B-U QB
  • Fiametta
  • Laurent
  • Spencer
  • B-U ILB
  • DB (think Richard Marshall/Dwight Lowery, can play CB or FS)

Now the draft. No DeCastro, no Kirkpatrick available. Could go for a pass-rusher/OLB but you have Spencer so you don't have to go that way.

Cordy Glenn is 6-6, 350, powerful, very agile for his size; projects as an excellent G or RT--played both at Georgia. Bunting has him top-15; most others in the mid-20s. A good combine for a guy with his size and agility could send him up the rankings.

Draft him--start him at RG next to Tyron as your 1 big mauler on the line. Plenty of depth at DB later in the draft; can look for a pass rusher in round 2 as well.

Added bonus: for those who do not like Free, you have your replacement in-house: if Glenn plays as well as he should and earns a big 2d contract, that'll just happen to be at the same time Free's contract is up, or just about. Move Glenn to RT and he's your bookend with Tyron from 2014-15.

So your 2-deep (more like a 1.5 deep) looks something like:

QB: Romo, Vet QB
FB: Fiametta
RB: Murray, Jones
WR: Austin, Bryant, Robinson
TE: Witten, Phillips
T: Smith, Free, Parnell
G: Glenn, Kosier, Arkin, Kowalski
C: Nagy, Costa
DE: Lissemore, Hatcher, Spears
DT: Ratliff, Brent
OLB: Ware, Spencer, Butler
ILB: Lee, Carter, Vet ILB
CB: Jenkins, Scandrick, [Vet DB at CB or S], [Rd 2 or 3 Pick]
S: Sensabaugh, [Vet DB at CB or S], [Rd 2 or 3 Pick], Church, McCray

Anyway, just something a little different.
